If It's Not Me
"Daniel is not an outsider," Janice blurted right after Nelson had spoken. Then, she realized something and hurriedly clarified, "After all, we're already in agreement, and he's Denise's father now. If I bring Denise here, she'll definitely cry." Despite what she said, that wasn't what she thought because she didn't bring Denise along because she was worried that Daniel would get the wrong idea. At the end of the day, that guy only has Denise on his mind. At the thought of this, she suddenly felt a little jealous. "I see. I'll send you home after dinner, then," Nelson said, going along with her. However, the displeasure in his heart grew when he saw how she explained herself anxiously earlier as he felt that she might have fallen for Daniel, and a strong sense of crisis struck him. "Thanks." Janice nodded, pursing her lips and looking in the direction of the kitchen with impatience in her eyes as though she wanted to finish eating quickly and leave. Nelson, who was seated across from her, naturally noticed this, and his anger grew at the sight, but soon, the food was served. In less than twenty minutes, Janice finished eating and wiped her lips daintily, saying, "I'm done. Although I'm buying you this meal as thanks, I didn't expect that it would be in such a rush." He chuckled as he shook his head and said, "It's fine. The next time I'm at your place, just whip up some food for me. That way, you don't have to worry about Denise, right?" "Huh?" Janice was stunned by his words and suddenly felt a little awkward by his sudden proposal. If Nelson comes to the house to eat, will Daniel be mad? Hang on, why do I care whether he's angry or not when I'm not even in love with him?! But he's Denise's father now. It doesn't seem so appropriate to do something like this, I think. Within a few seconds, various thoughts went through her head, putting her in a rather tricky situation. "I…" Nelson silently seethed in anger because now he was sure that she must have fallen for Daniel after sensing her hesitance, but he kept the smile on his face and said, "Never mind, I'm just joking." "I'll treat you to a proper meal when I'm free next time." She breathed a sigh of relief at his admittance, hurriedly grabbed her purse, and sprang to her feet.Clearly, she couldn't wait to go home, and Nelson stood up as well. Then, he drove her home, all the while suppressing his displeasure and irritation. On the way, while he was driving, Janice sent a text to Daniel. 'Where are you? I'm returning home now.' Unfortunately, Daniel didn't reply because he was coaching Laskarina, and Denise had taken away his cell phone to play and take pictures of flowers. After she sent two more texts but still didn't receive a reply, she called him on the phone in the end. When someone picked up the call, she said unhappily, "Daniel, where are you and Denise? Why didn't you reply to my texts?" "Mommy?" Denise gasped in surprise from the other end of the line. Janice was startled when she heard Denise answering, so she immediately softened her tone, saying, "Oh, it's Denise? Where are you and Daddy? I'm on the way home to you guys now." "We are… We are in a place with lots of big houses around. And… there's also a lake here." Denise didn't know where she was, so she could only describe the things she saw to Janice.Alas, Janice was only even more confused by her descriptions. "Big houses? Lake? Pass the call to Daddy." "Daddy?" Denise pouted, turned back, and took a glance at Daniel and Laskarina, who were in the pavilion, before saying brightly, "Daddy is teaching a lady martial arts." When Janice heard that, her heart skipped a beat, and she sat up straight, asking, "Which lady?" "That policewoman who saved me the last time." Denise couldn't hear the change in her mother's tone, and Janice said, "Denise, I'm making a video call to you. Will you show me around?" "Sure!" Immediately, Janice hung up and made a video call instead. Denise picked up the call within seconds.
