If It's Not Me

Chapter 49 Why Didn’t You Bring Denise Along?

Laskarina also knew that he couldn't teach the Greater Battle Fist so casually, and it could only be decided whether one was fit to learn it or not after an individual underwent several checks from various investigations. Hence, she nodded to show her understanding without saying a word. Aldo solemnly bowed in his seat and said, "I'm extremely grateful for your gesture today, General Hardon. If there's anything I can help you with in the future, do not hesitate to tell me." Daniel grinned at that declaration. "Oh? That's great because I do have a request now." Taken aback, Aldo didn't think that Daniel would really need his help, but the next second, he realized that this was an opportunity! An opportunity to be in the good books of Hades and the chance for the Morales Family to rise in status! Therefore, he quickly said, "Pray tell, General Hardon. If it's within my means, I'll definitely do it!" Laskarina knew that what was about to happen wasn't something she could partake in, so she took the initiative to accompany Denise on a stroll as they viewed the beautiful flowers in the garden. The moment they left, Daniel said, "I need the help of your status, Mr. Morales." After that, Daniel told him all about the Eaglet Project and Finn. When Aldo heard that there might be an assassination group in Goldshore, his face turned grim as he realized the severity of this matter. "You're planning to use me as an outsider to drag Finn Weiss off his position, General Hardon?" Daniel nodded in affirmative. "That's right." Now that Henry and the mayor had yet to consolidate their power, they could only hold back Finn and not make any impulsive moves, lest everything backfires, and they were back to square one. On the other hand, Daniel didn't want to reveal himself yet. Thus, Finn's students working under him wouldn't cause any trouble if it was Aldo who made a move. Aldo nodded firmly and said, "Since you've already spoken, I'll definitely lend you a hand, General Hardon. But we'll need evidence." "Don't worry, Mr. Morales. I'll ask someone to pass you the evidence," he answered nonchalantly. If it wasn't the fact that he wanted to uproot the corruption completely, he could easily bring down a deputy secretary like Finn with just a word. On the other side, Janice had just arrived at a high-end restaurant with Nelson. "Janice, what would you like to eat?" Nelson asked with a smile. "You can place the order. I'm fine with anything." Janice forced out a smile as she was preoccupied with worry because she had just remembered that she hadn't given the house keys to Daniel at all! Where would they go if they can't go home? Have they eaten their dinner? she wondered. While Nelson placed the order, she sent a text message to Daniel. 'Where are you? Did Denise cry?' Daniel immediately replied, 'She didn't cry. I just had dinner with her." After Janice read the text, she didn't feel any better, and she texted back, 'That's good. I'm returning home soon. Please accompany her a little longer." 'Sure, I'm waiting for you to come home.' That text sent a blush over Janice's face. This guy. Why does it seem like there's another meaning behind his text? she thought, smiling discreetly. For the first time, her heart felt sweet, knowing that someone was waiting for her at home. "Who are you chatting with, Janice?" When Nelson saw the sweet smile on her face, it made his own smile a little forced in return. "Oh." His questions made her snap back to her senses as she answered, "Nothing. I was just asking Daniel if he had brought Denise out for dinner." When he heard her answer, the edge of his lips twitched, and he felt a little displeased. Nevertheless, he managed to maintain the smile on his face. "Why didn't you bring Denise along, then? I'm also a little worried that you're leaving her in the care of an outsider."
