If It's Not Me
After Fern fled the scene, she quickly made her way back to Northside speedily shortly before arriving at a run-down orphanage. As soon as she walked through the door, she was greeted by a lady who appeared to be wearing a set of clothes with patches. "I thought you weren't going to come back, Fern." The lady seemed unhappy. "Here is the money my job paid me, Ms. Black. I'm tired now, so I'm going to go back to the room and get some sleep." Fern stuffed a stack of cash into the lady's hand and pretended to yawn, trying to avoid her reprimand by retreating to her room. "Stand right there!" Nancy shouted at Fern, who immediately stopped in her tracks with a horrified look on her face. She then walked up to her and asked, "There were a few men standing at the door in the past few days. Did you pickpocket their wallets again?" However, Fern shrugged her shoulders without replying, keeping her head down while Nancy went on to lecture the former. "How many times have I told you about this? You're breaking the law. Do you know that?!" "Ms. Black, they are all thugs who probably got the money from robbing other people! They are breaking the law too!""I don't care. That's their problem!" Nancy angrily glared at Fern, who suddenly lost her courage to talk back and sat through her scolding. "You're back, Fern." At that moment, a little girl, who seemed to be about four or five years old, happily shouted as she came running out of the house. Not long after that, there were a few more children of her age who came running, whereupon they surrounded Fern with a bright smile on each of their faces. "Where have you been for the past few days, Fern?" "Did you get us some candies this time, Fern?" "Fern…" Hearing the children's voices, Fern was filled with love and joy. "Of course, I did, but did you all behave in the past few days?" "Yes, we did," the kids answered simultaneously. "That's great! In that case, all of you deserve to be rewarded." Fern then produced some candies from her pocket with a smile on her face, making the children's day as they happily extended their arms to grab them. At the same time, Nancy let out a helpless sigh when she saw that and turned her attention to the stack of cash in her hand. In the meantime, a handsome young man showed up, his eyes filled with confidence and determination. "Is Fern here?" On the other hand, Nancy was surprised to see a visitor because she remembered that the gate on the outside was closed. Meanwhile, Fern was stunned at the sight of Daniel, wondering how he came to know that she was there. How did he know that I was here? Didn't Xavier and his men beat him to a pulp? At the thought of that, she carefully scanned Daniel from head to toe and realized that there were no signs of injury on him. She then shielded the children behind her and shouted, "H-Hey, what do you think you're doing?!" "I'm here for my wallet." Daniel seemed calm and collected, radiating a strange indifferent aura. "I don't know what you're talking about?" Fern shivered without herself knowing it, feeling intimidated by Daniel's cold aura. Daniel squinted as a nonchalant expression flashed across his face, but Fern couldn't summon the courage to look him straight in the eye, continuing to stand right in front of the children, although she showed no signs of flinching. "Please give me a moment, sir!" Nancy quickly stepped up and stood between the two parties, turning her head around while growling madly. "Fern! How dare you lie to me! How many people's wallets did you steal? Return it to them." "Ms. Black, it's him. He is a rapist!" Fern shouting, stomping the ground repeatedly in frustration.
