If It's Not Me

Chapter 36 We're Partners

The petite lady with short hair complained and expressed her frustration. "What kind of man dates a woman without money in his wallet at all? What do you think that black card makes you?" When she was about to toss it away, a firm voice was heard. "That thing you're holding is real. In fact, I could even buy the whole Goldshore with that." The short-haired lady was stunned when she saw Daniel emerging from the other end of the alley with his eyes staring at her. "W-When did you…?" She was left with her eyes wide open, not expecting Daniel to catch up to her because she was so confident with her own speed and skills that she didn't think there was anyone who could keep up with her. Daniel calmly said, "Hey girl, do you know that you can be sentenced to jail for stealing? Furthermore, if the sum is large, you could even end up spending the rest of your life behind bars." "Stop bluffing!" the short-haired lady shouted, staring at Daniel's face, which began to seem familiar to her. After she took a moment to jog her memory, her face changed. "Wait a minute. You're that rapist, Daniel Hardon, aren't you?" She took two steps back fearfully. "Defamation is also a criminal offense," Daniel calmly said. With a horrified look on her face, the short-haired lady stepped back and started running, fearing that Daniel was going to do something to hurt her. However, before she reached the end of the alley, she was suddenly greeted by several men who appeared at the end of the alley and stood in her way. "Where do you think you're going, Fern?" The thug standing in the forefront looked at her sinisterly with a toothpick sticking out of his mouth. When Fern made out who was coming, her face changed with an awkward smile on it. "Oh, it's you, Xavier. Here I thought it was someone else. What a small world, man." "A small world? We've been waiting for you in the orphanage for god knows how long, only to run into you here," Xavier Tommack said with a smile. "Grab her!" As soon as Xavier finished his words, his underlings charged at Fern, but the lady was skillful and agile enough to dodge their reach, successfully keeping a distance from her attackers. When Daniel witnessed what happened, he squinted a little, feeling bewildered about something that crossed his mind. There is something strange about this lady. Where have I seen her before? "Quit dodging from us! Let's see how long you can keep this up! I'm going to make you pay for stealing my money!" Xavier scolded just as his underlings entered the alley. As Fern's face changed, she continued to dodge her attackers' grasp effortlessly before she found her way to the other end of the alley. She then looked back at Daniel and shouted, "Save me, dude! Didn't you just say we were partners?" While Daniel was left speechless and stunned, Fern finished her sentence and quickly fled the scene. "Darn! She has an accomplice! Take him down too!" Xavier cursed, picking up a brick from the ground as he charged at Daniel with his henchmen. Before Daniel could explain himself, the madman raised his hand with the brick in his grasp and swung it at his head. The next second, the alley was filled with painful screams like pigs that were being slaughtered. Then, Xavier and his men were found lying on the ground with bruises on their faces. At the same time, they all stared at Daniel with horrified looks on their faces. After all, they had no idea how they just got subdued by the man standing before them. "Which orphanage is that lady, Fern, from?" Daniel asked with a voice so cold that it sounded as if it was from hell, striking fear in the hearts of those who heard it. Meeting Daniel's menacing gaze, Xavier was frightened. He then spoke with a shivering voice. "S-She is from Northside Orphanage." Meanwhile, after hearing the answer he was waiting for, Daniel walked away without looking back. Not long after he left, Xavier's facial expression was immediately replaced with a hateful one. "F*ck! Rally up our men! I'm going to wallop this guy to teach him a lesson!"
