If It's Not Me

Chapter 28 This Is Not Playing House

"You want to terminate the contract temporarily?" There was a sudden change in Janice's expression. She quickly looked at Denise and heaved a sigh of relief after making sure the girl wasn't looking at her. Then, she asked in a low voice, "Why?" "Right now, my status might bring a lot of unnecessary trouble to Denise. Although I'm innocent, others don't see me this way, so…" Daniel didn't know how to continue his sentence up until here. In fact, he really wanted to be by Denise's side every waking moment, but he was a father after all, so he didn't want his own child to be talked about because of him. That was why he proposed this suggestion. Before he could clear his name, he didn't want to be by Denise's side and bring her any harm. When Janice heard that, she understood what Daniel meant immediately. Earlier on, she had thought about this issue in the car as well. Nonetheless, she immediately refused the idea. "No," she said coldly. Daniel was surprised by her answer, not expecting her to reject his suggestion. He thought that she just didn't know how to start this topic in the car just now. "Why?" "If you terminate the contract, what's going to happen if Denise wants to look for you?" Janice asked, her face stern and cold. At once, he didn't know what to say. "We're not playing house. Since you have signed the contract, you will still be Denise's father in everyone else's eyes even after terminating the contract. If you do that, you won't be around anymore, and Denise will be talked about as well. This will only hurt her even more." Her words brought Daniel back to reality at once; he just cared about Denise so much that he couldn't think straight and make the right decision. Only then did he realize how stupid it was for him to talk about terminating the contract. This was the first time in ten years that he felt this way. He nodded and put on a bitter smile before saying, "Sorry, I was being too impulsive." "Don't talk about terminating the contract ever again!"When Janice saw him apologizing, only then did the iciness on her face disappear slightly. Daniel looked up, and there was a glow in his dark eyes. He then said, "Do you believe that I'm innocent?"
