The Second Love
It was a serious question that we should not take lightly. As such, as soon as I returned to the room, I pulled Dominic to the couch and made him sit. With my arms crossed, I gave him a pointed look and stated, “There isn't anyone else here, so tell me why you spent Valentine's Day with Camille. Even if I wasn't available to spend it with you, how could you bring someone else out on that day? Plus, you've never mentioned it to me either!” “Are you interrogating me?” Dominic raised his brows and playfully asked. “Oh...” The look on his face made my facade soften. “No, I'm only trying to get some clarification here. Besides...” I paused, feeling somewhat awkward to continue my line of questioning. “What else have you done with Camille behind my back?” What I knew was limited to what Xenia had revealed and what I had seen on the day I broke up with Dominic. However, it did not seem like the story ended there. Although I tried to convince myself otherwise, it still bothered me whenever someone brought up the topic. While I was caught up in my thoughts, Dominic reached for my arm and pulled me closer to him to sit beside him. Then, he began to explain what had happened that day. Camille's schemes are impressive, and I got to give them to her. While she did tell Dominic that I had gone home, she was sly enough to phrase it differently. Dominic explained that he had waited a long time for me that day and could not get in touch with me over the phone. As he had started growing frustrated, he had met Camille “coincidentally” on the streets. She had told him that I must have been caught up with something urgent and therefore forgot to inform him.Not only so, she had even phoned my number before him, but to no avail. The events that followed were self-explanatory. Since they were both alone, they had decided to have dinner together as friends. Following that, Camille had claimed she was drunk and could not head back to the dormitory because it was closed. Given that situation, it left her with no choice but to stay in a hotel room. Initially, I did not understand what she was playing since I would uncover the truth when I returned to school anyway. However, I now realized that she probably had other plans that night, for instance, a one-night stand. To her dismay, Dominic turned out to be a gentleman who knew his boundaries and did nothing of that sort. With that thought in mind, I felt more relieved and was not as angry with him for spending that night with Camille.Out of the blue, a thought came to mind. “Well, if I did not explain things to you after I returned to school, would you have broken up with me?” I had contacted Dominic right after returning to school, but I recalled him acting rather coldly. I was devastated by my grandmother's passing and had badly wanted Dominic's company. Unfortunately, he was not around. Hurt and lonely, I had called him repeatedly and started sobbing. I had rambled on about stories with my grandmother and how wonderful she was to me. Subsequently, Dominic's demeanor had changed. Not only had he comforted me, but he had also asked me to wait for him to return. Indirectly, the misunderstanding was cleared. “Do you think I'll act like you? I will not recklessly suggest a breakup when I have not clarified the issue,” Dominic calmly responded. It instantly rubbed me the wrong way. “What do you mean by that? Is that a personal attack? Are you telling me that I'm reckless?” I rolled my eyes. “From my perspective, most of the girls would react the same way as I did in that situation. Those who are a little more unreasonable would kick up a bigger fuss than I did. You know, I think my reaction was reasonable.” With a ghost of a smile on his lips, Dominic commented, “So do you think you were right to do it? Haven't you thought about what would happen if you confronted me? Perhaps things would end very differently.” Biting my lips, I tried to think of a response, but nothing came to mind. Why the hell is it all on me now? I squirmed when I realized that his words made sense. Regardless, I blamed it on Camille. At that time, even if I had wanted to clarify the issue with Dominic directly, I could not hold myself back after the call she had given me.She had made it clear to thank me, and given so, how could I give up my pride and approach him? Ah, Camille was a hurdle. After all, Dominic and I had dated for a few years, and it could be considered true love. Sighing, I took a while before I spoke again. “At least you can see Camille's true colors now. Also, I think you should find an opportunity to talk to your mother.” It would not be appropriate for me to tell Milena about it, seeing how she had defended Camille the last time. Worn out from the discussions we had for that day, I laid my head on Dominic's shoulder and grumbled, “We should have recorded whatever Xenia said tonight. Who knows, it might be of use in the future.” Dominic shrugged and did not make any other comments on it. “Don't worry. I know what to do. As for my mother, I will warn her about Camille. It won't be easy, as I'm sure you can see how much she likes her.”Annoyed by how affectionately he said that woman's name, I pulled away from him. “Do you have to call her name so fondly?” “I'll stop talking about her.” Dominic immediately assured me, looking slightly startled. With that answer, I leaned back on his shoulder contentedly. “That's more like it.” Then, I picked up the remote and turned on the television. It had been a long day, and all I wanted to do was to sit back and watch television. Since the day before, I had not had the chance to watch television, which was unfortunate, as I found out that I could watch on-demand movies and blockbusters released some time ago. “Dominic, what do you want to watch?” Instead of replying to me, Dominic asked, “Aren't you tired?” “Nope. Besides, I've had too much for dinner, and I'm far too bloated to fall asleep,” I muttered.“That's great! I'm feeling full from dinner too.” Staring suggestively at me, Dominic added, “It looks like a good time to exercise.” His words took me by surprise, and before I could react to it, his hands were already reaching into my collar. “Hey.” I grabbed his wandering hands and whined, “Let's not do it today. Wasn't it enough yesterday? I'm tired.” Ignoring my protests, Dominic whispered in a voice dropped an octave lower, “You can lie down and do nothing. I will not tire you out.” At that moment, I wanted to cry. Mr. Hartnell, even if I lie still like a dead fish, I'll be exhausted! In short, Dominic devoured me that night. Over the next two days, Dominic and I leisurely spent time together in Livingsfill before heading back. With the mountain of items I had purchased over the last few days, it was far too inconvenient for us to take the train. As such, Calvin drove to us to give us a ride. The next day after we returned, Shannon called me.
