The Second Love

Chapter 173 A Record Of Our Relationship

Shannon wanted me to ask me out and shortlist the main leads. Since I had nothing on my schedule, I decided to get it done soon. Besides, James had told me to handle the shortlisting as soon as possible. Therefore, I headed over to our old spot at the pre-agreed time Shannon had arranged for us to meet that afternoon. The moment I stepped in, the café owner came over to greet me and told me that Shannon had already arrived. After exchanging a few pleasantries with him, I headed to the usual table Shannon and I used to sit at. Sure enough, I found her there, staring at her phone. As we sipped on Moscato and nibbled on snacks, we flipped through the resources James provided and exchanged our opinions on it. We were both worked up about the shortlisting, especially since it was our first time doing this. “This one is good. Quentin Woodson is a hot topic these days. He is handsome and cute in his reality show that I recently watched.” I swooned over the man. However, Shannon ignored me and pointed at a picture in her hands. “What about this guy? He is not bad too. Look at his figure and appearance! Oh, he sings well too.” Raising my head to glance at the candidate, I realized he did not look bad. “Let's pick out a few candidates. I don't think that is a problem since James wanted to see them in an audition anyway. This way, he could make his pick.” Given so, Shannon and I picked out the best few choices in the next hour. We planned to show them to James and get him to organize an audition. While choosing the male lead, we had enthusiastic responses. Yet ironically, we seemed a lot calmer when we had to choose the female lead. Even so, we still picked a few out.Later, we finally rounded up the finalists and came up with a list of names before sending it in an email to James. “Liliana, we can choose a cute girl for the female lead, but of course, she cannot look like an airhead. As for the men, we shouldn't pick a pretty boy. When I read your comic, I pictured the male lead acting cool, being a little arrogant, and cold. I think he is someone who will break out of his shell and only show affection to the female lead.” I was holding the glass of Moscato to take a sip from it, but when I heard her words, I paused. Instantly, I blurted, “You finished it?” “Of course! It is your comic. Although we started the cooperation later, it is only natural that I read your previous works. The storyline might be cliche, but the relationship between the leads is the sweetest. Besides, you wrote it realistically, unlike in typical comics, where they might seem too flashy at times. It made me like whatever I was reading.” I did not expect Shannon's critic to go this well. The comic drawn by Dominic was based on the past events of my relationship with him. Therefore, it was not surprising for the story to seem realistic. Speaking of that, I thought about my fight with him a few days back. Because of the fight, I had not finished reading the comic, nor had I read the script James gave me, so I had no idea about the story's ending. Looking at Shannon, I tried to prompt her to tell me more about the ending. “Do you think this is a good ending? I drew this while in school, so I was still a newbie.” Staring at the comic on her phone, Shannon replied without even looking up from it. “It's not bad. Isn't it the best to end a high school romance with a wedding?” Then she raised her head to look at me. “Wait, weren't you dating when you created this comic? Did you use your dating life as inspiration?” I froze at what Shannon said. The things I could never understand suddenly became clear to me. Could it be that Dominic was just drawing to record the moments we shared? After all, the contents of the comic that I had read included things that had happened between the two of us. He had refused to show me the comic strips and wanted to surprise me at the end. Despite having no clue about what it was, I believed it had to do with the comic's storyline. “Hey, what are you thinking about?” Shannon's voice pulled me into reality, and I took a few seconds to calm myself down. “It isn't strictly based on our relationship, but the comic did write about the things that had happened between Dominic and me.” Pfft! Shocked, Shannon spat out a mouthful of wine. Luckily, I was agile enough to duck. Otherwise, I would be going home drenched in wine. “Did you have to be so dramatic?” In disgust, I handed her a tissue.“A-Are you telling me that the story surrounds you and Dominic? Were both of you university classmates?” “Yes. Is that odd? I probably mentioned it to you at some point.” I frowned. Excitedly, Shannon exclaimed, “You've never mentioned it! You only talked about the plot twists in your relationship. Who would have thought that your relationship with him had blossomed in your innocent, blissful years? It is unfortunate for both of you to break up. Regardless, it ended with a marriage in the comic. That must be your dream.” Hearing that she brought up the comic's ending again, I could not help but search for the comic with my phone and skip to its last chapter. As I scanned through the story, my tears threatened to fall. It described a promise Dominic had made with me before. I felt like an idiot for falling into Camille's trap instantaneously. It made me miss out on so many things. If I had kept my cool or if I had read his comic, things would have turned out differently. “Liliana, you are out of it again. Your eyes are turning red already. What are you looking at?” Shannon asked worriedly as she grabbed my phone from my hands. Glancing at the contents, she sighed. “Don't do this to yourself. You drew these. Yet, you are still so emotional after looking at them now?” “Who are you to judge? Can't I feel touched by it?” I awkwardly retorted in embarrassment. Disappointed, Shannon gave me a pointed look. “What is the point of feeling that way? It does nothing to change the complicated situation between you and him.” I gave it some thought. “What if I told you that Dominic and I have cleared things up?” Taking a deep breath, I decided to lay it on her. “Shannon, both of us are back together.”Shannon's eyes widened to the size of saucers, and her mouth hung agape. It took her a few minutes to process it. “You got back with him? Did both of you patch things up? Wow, this should be made into a movie.” Deep inside, I knew that Shannon cared for me. Therefore, I gave her a detailed recount of what had happened and things Camille had done to sabotage us. After I finished, she was livid. “You are beyond dumb. Have you not heard of being more guarded with your close friends?” Quickly, I rebutted, “Well, that's not accurate. You are a close friend of mine, so should I be wary of you too?” Looking displeased, Shannon shot me a glare. Suddenly, she thought of something and said, “Wait a minute. Weren't Dominic and Camille getting married? They even went for a wedding dress fitting the last time. What did Dominic say to you about it?”
