You Were Warned
Aruru Nin and I left once Hassun and four of his followers got to the redhead’s domain. Promptly getting to Nilranlin to start our own personal investigation. It was not surprising to see the trading city hustling and bustling around. The biggest topic was the killing of Gwydion. A lot of what the citizens were saying was gossip. None of them knew what happened. “Do you know where the body was taken?” Nin had asked a male who was passing us. “Worimun … the doctor of Nilranlin, M’Lady!” The male pointed us in the right direction of where the dead body would be. Wrinkling my nose, I hated the smell of this place. It was a combination of animal waste and century old urine. The roads were mucky, not even properly paved with cobblestone. For a city that was highly dense one would think they would care about the road just a bit more. It was easy to tell who made enough gold and not, the dwellings showed how impoverished things were. A great deal of the dwellings were rundown and in need of great care. Lord Cygwin only cared about profit in his pocket and not the well being of the people here. Something I will have to mention to my father in passing. We came to a well to do dwelling, this was not a surprise to me as we entered the domain. Yelling our greetings, letting the doctor know he had a guest. A male from the back yelled that he was busy but would be with us shortly. Glancing around the place, we could tell he lives an extravagant lifestyle, not needing for anything. It was not a surprise, he was the doctor after all. Coming out of the back, he noticed by our cloaks that we were the daughters of the king. Bowing with respect he asked us what our purpose was for being here. He was no fool, knowing we had our own personal mages to deal with any ailment that should come our way. Cygwin appeared to be no more than fifty one centuries old, young for our kind. Dressed in the finest that gold could buy. Nin and I glanced at each other knowing that the gold he would receive could not buy him what he has with the profession he performs. ‘He must be working in the black market!’ Nin mind linked me. Though our father has the money to provide the finest, he does not dress his daughters nor his sons in such extravagant silk. One roll of the finest silks is a million gold pieces, and that is the lowest price for many merchants up the price because this silk is so rare and takes ten lunar cycles to produce on a roll. I was sure the doctor would not be able to afford such luxuries on his income. Anyone with sense would never spend such gold on frivolous items. Not when there are other fine clothes of practical properties with the same qualities. We told Doctor Cygwin the purpose of our visit only to be told that the body had already been retrieved by a close family member. When we inquired which family member, he could only tell us that the female was elderly. The poor woman wept uncontrollably over the loss of her dear beloved cousin. Nin continued to ask if there was anything suspicious about the death of Gwydion. To which he replied that it had to be the act of a jealous mage. Desiring his death! Nin motioned for us to leave, realizing that this interrogation was not going to go anywhere. With everything the citizens and the doctor had said, it was no wonder my father was not getting a proper report. “Do you think that Cygwin is covering something up?” Nin had asked me. We both were thinking alike. The doctor was most definitely dealing with shady business. Something I was going to make sure I added to my report. Cygwin would need to be investigated about his practice and other goings on. For now, we needed to find out the true nature of the murder. Listening to the gossip we heard the location of where the body was found. Wasting no more time Nin and I directed the remainder of the task there. The scene we reached told me a grizzly tale. The ground was chard, indicating extreme heat. Placing my hand over the spot I cast a spell to show me what happened here. It took a bit for the residual energy that was left over from this murder to display itself. “The one who did the killing must have been powerful! You have cast this spell a thousand plus times and it has never failed!” Nin pointed out the obvious. “I know! No wonder the authorities could not get a reading … the caster is much stronger than anyone in this region. Even I am having an issue getting the residual energy to show what happened.” “What words are being carved on to Gwydion?” Nin pointed out what she was seeing. “It is Elven writing!” I stated. We both waited for the scene to play itself out. "Speak no evil, see no evil, hear no evil." We both said at the same time. “What does that mean?” I asked my sister. “I am not sure! We have to tell our father that we are not dealing with someone that is weak!” I jotted down on my pad so I would not forget what was seen, though I do not believe that I Will ever forget such a thing. “Blue flames … ‘Speak no evil, see no evil, hear no evil.’ and strong enough to hinder the seasoned investigators!”Portaling back to our father's castle we were in search of our daddy. This was information that we did not want to stall. He had to know about this right now. All I could think about was, what species … what group had the power as we had seen. In all my time, nothing like this has happened. Even my so called aunties and uncles did not possess such power.
