You Were Warned
Zefer My little sister departed the hunt as fast as she could, yelling in my mind that she was going to speak with father. I witnessed all of the human borns putting up their temporary dwellings. All of them were busy doing a task while one male wandered around with his device in his hand. “Bloody fool!” One of the hunting party members said. “They will not find a signal in the Masters territory!” I snickered with the rest of the group! It was amusing to see how each and every human born would react to their privileges not working in our realm. As much as I hated the thought of my baby sister … the sweet and delusional sister of mine, she has always dreamed of meeting her mate. Each time she would become far too close so something i deemed not fighting for my sister … I would kill IT! She might not be like the rest of us, weak like our mother, but my sister needed someone who would protect her. Our world is harsh, and uncaring and will kill the weak without a second thought. Anatu had her head in a romantic world. This was not safe for anyone! It might not be to Anatu’s likings but this was for her own good! My attention was directed at the male my baby sister called mate. I glared at him with the force of a raging volcano. I was going to kill him and spare my sister. That was until I heard my father's voice in my head. Cursing under my breath! ‘Zefer!’ My father’s voice was in my mind, ‘Do not kill your … sisters … m.a.t.e!’ I could tell he was as impressed with this news as I was. ‘But daddy … it is … a human.born!’ I could not believe how whiny I sounded. ‘Until I can …’ my father cleared his throat. Now I knew he was thinking like me but did not want to hurt my baby sister. Or it could be that he did not want to see her cry. ‘I will make the final decision.’ I huffed out loud! My hopes of slitting the throat of the weak male were shattered, but that did not mean that I could not make it that his brother did not pay for this misfortune. ‘The hybrid has entered the portal and is driving away!’ Sadragon’s voice echoed in all of our heads. ‘At least there was still the hunt!’ I thought to myself. The human borns had been placed in the kennels, while everyone celebrated the joining of Sadragon and his mate. For many, this was a joyous occasion. Many like myself, this was the worst thing that could happen. I refused to allow myself to go through what so many others had happened to them. “Fate!” I hissed as I heard the crowd hooting and hollering. “A cruel mistress indeed! To give us something only to have it ripped away so abruptly!” I took my feet to the only location that I knew where I could get the answers that I needed. My brother's mate! My father took a vow of silence … Sadragon would never utter a word without my father's approval. There was only one being that was not bound by my father's authority. The event surrounding my sister left me fuming! I wanted answers and the one who had them was walking away. I knew that my father was not telling us everything. Ashur was not fabricating things when he said his father was acting paranoid. Father had always been the type to only hand out information when needed. None of us would question his authority or command. Now I am! I wanted to know what was going on with my father and why he was acting out of sorts. 'How is it that my brother’s mate knew so much about us, yet we knew only what father would tell us about her?' I thought to myself. I found the redhead bent over dropping something in the corner of her domain. As the mate of my brother had done in the past, she muttered words I could not hear. This time things were different. I could see light energy moving from the ground to her hand. Swirls of light, different shades of colours, flowed from her mouth to the land. I was witnessing her working in the colour of different lights and shades. I was starstruck by what my eyes proceeded as new magickal energy. From the corner of her sight, I knew without a doubt, she knew I was there. She did not need to turn her head to see me. I could see the energy flow around the property like a soap bubble. Shock was not a word that I would use at this point. At this point, no words would properly explain what was going on inside my mind. Standing at the edge of the driveway I glared at her. So many things I wanted to say, yet no one word would form and come out of my mouth. She turned her head towards me, shoving something into her pocket. Standing to her full height, her expression was as grim as Anatu's had been before she ran off to my father. But it was Merna's eyes that caught my attention. Sapphire, they were glowing sapphire! Something that was not given to a normal category of species at least the ones that I knew of. My brother’s mate kept on glaring at me, “wait!” Her tone was soft but commanding. I already knew that her protection bubble would prevent me from entering her domain. What I did not understand was why she told me to wait! Glancing up and around the location, soon afterwards, “You can enter!” She turned towards the dwelling's entrance. I did not motion my feet forward as my eyes were still glued on this mate of my brothers. “I thought you had questions … while I may have the answers!” I would have said that her tone was close to being condescending! But she was not wrong! I followed Merna’s direction to the back of the house. “It is safer this way!” She pointed to a seat. “Have a seat and I will answer your questions if I can.” Sitting down and waiting for me to speak. “SO!?” I sat in the chair opposite to her, “how do you know everything about us, yet we know little about you?” We matched each other's temper, “Simple answer … your fathers high mage designed an amulet … or medallion, whatever you want to call it. It was intended for everyone to forget … something very important! This information placed everyone at risk, that I have figured out. The names Mannel and Parppavar keep coming up everytime I start to dig around.” I was trying to figure out what type of danger we would all be in. “That still does not explain how you know about us!” “The medallion is still working, I figured it will still keep on working until I can find a way to break it! When the mage was making the medallion he did not take into consideration how my mind works. My mind is hard wired to fuck around and find out! The mage had no idea of what I am made of. The second I took off the damn thing … I started to remember what everyone was not to remember.” “Okay!” I leaned forward, “You mentioned Mannel and Parppavar … what do they have to do with this?” “If they find out about me … I figure another purge will happen! Mannel is collecting humans that are related to the magickal community. Illegally I might add … I have the proof on paper … no dead body though! Something tells me Mannel disposes of the meat sack like Chao does as well!” My blood was boiling, “how dare you mention my fathers name as if you are worth to speak it!” “I guess your daddy did not tell you?” Her eyes watered up. This was the first time her emotions had changed. She massaged her chest. The same thing I had caught my father doing as well. “NO!” I screamed as I stood up, “This can not be!” I pushed the chair over.“Chaos always loved to give out information as it needed to be said. The fact that you did not know tells me … the information he has dug up, it is not good!” She stood up, “This is not about me … your daddy … or Ashur! This is about something much bigger than us. Mannel and Parppavar are planning another purge. I already gave Pierre the list of individuals you need to hunt down and get rid of. They are passing information off to your enemies. Why do you think Tizqar is so cozy to you and your siblings? All ways of asking questions … and lately has been moody since none of you are telling him stories like you used to!” She fixed the chair. “What do you think would happen if word got around that your dear daddy and brother were my mates?” “They would kill you … to cripple them!” I whispered. ‘What does my father fear?’ I thought to myself. ‘Why is he acting so paranoid?’ “Chaos pushed me through the vortex … He was protecting something huge … something that would let him forgo a bond to protect all realms from Mannel and Parppavar’s plan of a purge!” I glared at her, not able to think of a thing that was of such importance. “What could it be?” “I plan on figuring it out!”
