Revenge of the Rejected
Angẹla watched Charles expression change from a blank one to one of shock. His eyes went as wide as apples and he grabbed his phone with his second hand as though he couldn't see properly. Then he blinked serverally and his eyes went everywhere in disbelief. Angela smiled. Seeing Charles clearly experiencing a bad situation was thrilling. So he also could make that expression on his proud face. He stood from his seat and left immediately and Angela's eyes followed after him. What did he see to throw him so off-balance? Then she realized she was wasting time and she actually had the opportunity she needed. She looked around, wondering if the maid was still somewhere in sight and when she saw the maid wasn't, her hands flew to her bag, prying it open and searching frantically for the poison. "You should have kept it somewhere unique." She muttered to herself as her head whipped all around frantically. Then she found the tranparent poison bag and discovered her hands were trembling real fast. "Damn." She snapped breathily as she emptied all its contents into Charles' glass. She didn't know what dose was appropriate so instead, she felt pouring the whole thing would definitely do the job perfectly. She looked around once more and stashed the empty poison bag into her bag, piling makeup and junk stuff on it, before wiping her hands on her skirt. She looked around once more and sniffed the air, wondering if the poison didn't leave some kind of scent. Then she saw the white substance all settled at the bottom of the cup and her heart rate spiked up. It was something Charles could see! Angela's bones trembled and she restlessly searched for any long object which she could use to stirr and mix. "Damn Mark." She whispered fearfully as she dipped her hand into the wine glass and mixed it. Her knuckles were wet with wine and then she saw a shadow approaching. Angela flew to her feet and headed away in the opposite direction. She turned and saw it was the maid. "Bathroom." She breathed out. "I need it." She added, and the maid looked around. "I said I need the bathroom!" Angela shrieked nervously. "Do you want me to go here?" She asked again and the maid shook her head. "Follow me please." She said to Angela and Angela looked around one last time before following the maid. In the restroom, she washed her hands thoroughly and stared at herself in the mirror. She had done it. Very soon, Charles would be a thing of the past, a miserable thing that existed minutes ago. She smiled to herself but her smile wobbled. Fear was creeping in but she shook her head. She was doing it all for Mark, also for herself. In no time, she would Charles on his knees begging for mercy, begging for an antidote she would never deliver. Yes, there was no need to be scared. She was doing exactly what her mother would be proud of. ~ Charles couldn't understand what had just happened. What was he seeing? The debit messages informed him of his money being taken gradually and eventually wiped out. He had to leave Angela because he didn't want her suspecting something was wrong. "Okay. Calm down. Just calm down." He told himself, and went to his bank app. If he wasn't seeing crazy things, then it was probably James who withdrew the money but then, he and James had agreed on the time to withdraw the money so there was no way James would take it out. Charles plopped down on a sofa, trying to think. His account balance was left bare. There was nothing left. Charles took in a deep breath and tried to think. There was only one person who had access to his account and funds. Only one person who knew all the passwords and that was James, but there was also no reason for James to take out all the money in his account without informing him. Then Charles grabbed his phone, holding it in shaking hands. His thoughts were going wild and he just couldn't bring himself to think straight. He dialed James' number and James picked it on the third ring. "Hello…" "James, all my money was just withdrawn. Every damn thing in my account, was it…?" He was asking but then his phone beeped. Charles dropped the phone from his ear staring at it in disbelief. The call had ended. Did James end the call? James couldn't hang up on him, there was no way James could do that. Then he dialed the number again. Maybe something had happened of the call had been accidentally ended, either on his side or James'. However, Charles heart dropped when he realized his phone gave a weird beep and informed him that the number he was dialing was switched off. Charles moistened his lips and stood from the sofa, pacing around hastily. He dialed James' number over and over again but it was switched off. Charles didn't want to believe it but the thought came unbidden into his head. Had he just been betrayed? James had been shocked when he had seen the amount of money Charles had signed to pay, Charles had discussed going to the bank with him and on that same day, not long after they parted, all his money had been withdrawn. He had called James, James had picked but had ended the call immediately Charles mentioned the withdrawal and when he had called back, James' phone had been switched off. Any moron would have the same thoughts James was having. He needed to find James but first he needed to deal with Angela. He couldn't have her there in such a moment of distress. Charles stormed to the living room and saw her waiting patiently. How she annoyed him. He picked up his glass of wine and Angela watched him. Was he really going to drink? She thought hopefully as Charles raised the cup to his lips. Just one more tilt and it would all be over.
