Revenge of the Rejected
Charles stared at the judge intently as he looked at the audience ready to give his verdict. He knew he had won. That was sure, but he just couldn't help thinking and wondering if things were going to end in his favor. Most of the time he had always gotten disappointed and although he had been really confident with James' smartness, he could not help but wonder about a negative what-if. The judge's little eyes roamed over the audience and finally opened his lips to speak. "The jurors have deliberated, and have come to a decision." The judge started, and Charles bit the insides of his cheek. "The court has voted in favour of Mr. Charles." He announced, and to Charles, it felt like fireworks burst in his chest. He had succeeded. The judge continued to speak, announcing that his father was to transfer all the documents he had in his possession concerning the case of Charles' mother to Charles, but Charles was lost in the joy he felt at the moment. His hands clenched into fists, not because he was mad, but because he was trying so hard to keep the smile off his face. It was game over for his father. The judge slammed his gavel onto the table thrice and there was applause. Vera looked at Charles smiling. When he was mad, it was evident on his face, and when he was happy, it was also the same. She was happy for him, happy to see him have one more less worry. After the whole court affair, Charles, James and Vera went in Charles' car to get some things for the little celebration party Charles was insistent on throwing. They drove on the streets, talking and laughing. "Did you see his face? He looked like a Halloween pumpkin about to burst." Vera remarked, and they burst into laughter at her comparison. "Isn't that a little too much? A pumpkin?" James asked, and she rolled her eyes. "When he realized he had lost so easily and so smoothly thanks to our competent lawyer, he looked like he was going to go crazy. His veins here, here…" she said tilting her head upwards, pointing to her neck, and they chuckled. "See here? His veins bulged, looking ready to pop." She continued and started to rub her temples. "Here too, he just seemed to have veins standing out everywhere on his skin, but I must commend you James, that was really good back there, like seriously good. It's like you just jumped into their minds and saw what they wanted to do, and prevented them from doing them. Wow, it was mind-blowing." She said in a rush. "Are you that excited about it? You've become a total chatterbox just because of one mind-blowing trial." James said and Charles laughed so hard he almost hit a car in front of him. "Of course it's because I'm happy. Hey, Charles!" Vera called out when she saw he had almost hit a car. She had been so excited about what had happened at the trial that she didn't even know when they had driven into a street. She looked around and it felt like they had disappeared right from the highway and into the street. The car Charles had almost hit stopped, and turned dangerously stopping horizontally in front of Charles' car, blocking the way when he was supposed to stop vertically. "Did you hit him?" Vera asked, touching Charles' arm as her eyes went wide. "No, I didn't." Charles replied with his eyes fixed on the car. "Then why's he parked like this? Should I tell the bodyguards to get him? This is quite annoying." Vera muttered and tried to push open the door but Charles stopped her. "I'll take care of it." He said, pushing open the door and stepping out. James followed and Vera, who couldn't bear to be left out, also stepped out. The driver of the car, having noticed them coming down, pushed open his car door and stepped out. Charles cocked his head wanting to see who it was that had suddenly decided to cause trouble. And what a surprise. It was Tyson. Of course his sweet half-brother who was pissed after the trial ended so sweetly and quickly, and also against their favor. "So what? You think I'll let you go like that?" Tyson asked, walking briskly around his car and kicking a trash can. The can fell and spilled its stinking contents out but Tyson was too mad to care about being clean. Charles stuck his hands into his pockets and raised a brow. "You're so damn despicable! Think I'll let you be!? Damn it!" He shouted, with his eyes glinting with mad anger, however before he could get to them, Charles' bodyguards who had stepped out of their car had walked briskly to stop him. "Get your damn hands off me!" Tyson screamed, shoving off the hands of the guards that had started to push him backwards. "I said get your damn hands off me!" Tyson screamed. "Then pack your damned car right!? And get out of here!" One of the deep-voiced guards bellowed, and Tyson managed to push their hands off him. "We'll meet again." Tyson told them menacingly, his upper lip twitching as he watched them angrily, then he turned, kicking the trash can once more before walking briskly to his car. "That was stupid." Vera muttered in annoyance as she watched Tyson get into his car, reverse and zoom off at a high speed. Charles watched him go. Someone like Tyler couldn't spoil his day. Tyler wasn't worth it. It was good to see Tyler was pissed. It was exactly what he wanted him to feel. The feeling of losing. The feeling of not getting what he wanted. As the three of them drove home after getting some things they needed for their little celebration, Charles looked out the window and smiled as Vera and James conversed rapidly about the trial. He wasn't done. Not until he crushed his father completely, and that was exactly what he was going to do.
