Revenge of the Rejected

Chapter 87

About an hour had passed, and the judge was nice to have waited that long, but there was no sight of Lincoln, nor his sons, Tyson, and Carlos. Charles was beginning to get frustrated, and he could feel his anger, getting to a high peak. “I’ll be gracious enough to give this court case a few more minutes to start, and if Mr. Lincoln doesn’t show up, I’m afraid I would have to postpone this case to another day.” Charles got anxious, and was on his toes, wondering what his father was up to. His father wouldn’t just run off like a coward, by avoiding this important meeting. “Calm down, Charles.” Vera uttered, with a concerned look. She knew that Charles would probably be burning in anger right now, and the worst was that, he couldn’t let it out, right now. This was something that could be eating at him, on the inside. Charles couldn’t respond as he paced around, thinking of what to do after this, and how he could rain fire on his father if he messed this up. “I apologize for my late coming, Your Honor.” A familiar voice broke out in the court. Charles looked in the direction of that voice, and discovered it was his father and half-brothers, walking in. He felt relief, wash through him, and he gave them a sharp look when they all glanced at him. Then their lawyer walked in as well, and I wasn’t moved by that. “Since you are here, let’s start, as we have wasted a lot of time. Over to the prosecution unit.” The judge voiced out, and signaled for us to carry on. “Your Honor, Mr. Lincoln is guilty as charged for stealing the properties which doesn’t belong to him. They were for Mr. Charles’ mother, and Mr. Charles, here, has a right to claim it.” James made his statement, with confidence. “The defense unit may speak.” “Your Honor. It is legal if Mr. Lincoln takes over his wife’s properties, in the course of their marriage. So, Mr. Charles can only get those properties at the mercy of his father.” The lawyer spoke out. Charles scoffed, and tapped his feet, waiting for James to speak out. “Your Honor. With what I know from Mr. Charles’ story, his mother never gave the properties to Mr. Lincoln, willingly. And there is no paperwork to prove that.” James defended. “Well, we have that paperwork.” Mr. Lincoln’s lawyer voiced out, and showed the judge the part where Charles’ mother signed the transfer of properties approval. Charles was shocked that they had prepared something like that. He couldn’t believe that his mother would have whole-heartedly given her properties to his father. “Your Honor, I would love to see it as well.” James requested politely. “You may.” The judge approved, and James walked over to meet the judge, then he checked the paperwork. “Your Honor, with what I have discovered, this signature looks forced. I expected that they could tweak some things, so I brought in an example of how Mrs. Lincoln, signs, on a normal day.” Charles was surprised to see how James had gone far to ensure that his mother’s properties doesn’t go down the drain, and he was touched by his action. James showed the judge, his proof, and the judge adjusted her glasses while staring at it, then she nodded her head lightly. “Mr. James is right about this. The signature which you have shown to me, Mr. Lincoln, doesn’t look like it was done, willingly. Do you have anything to say, Mr. Lincoln?” Mr. Lincoln stood up, and faced Charles. “You moron. What do you know about playing games with the big men? You are nothing but trash. What makes you think you can inherit these properties, and manage it well, uhn!” Charles stood up, and faced the judge. “Your Honor, this man is supposed to spend his life behind bars, because he is wicked, and selfish. Before my mother died, she was diagnosed with a terminal illness, and we needed to foot the bills.” Charles paused, fighting back the anger that wanted to surface. “As my father, and her husband, I asked him for help, but he refused to help, claiming he was broke. But he celebrated his new wife’s birthday, that same day, with the funds which belonged to my mother.” Charles narrated with pain. “That’s a lie! A great lie, Charles! You are a thief who would do anything to ruin my reputation.” Mr. Lincoln yelled at the top of his voice. “Silence, Mr. Lincoln.” The judge spoke out firmly while hitting the gavel on the table. We shall go on a break for me to decide the outcome of this case.” The judge spoke, and stood up. Charles walked out of the court, along with Vera and James. “James, that was so nice of you. I didn’t know that you went to that extent to bring a proof down to this place. If not for your extreme research, they could have scored more points, with the signature.” Charles said as he hugged James.James felt happy that Charles had recognized his efforts, and at least, it would clear the memory of that time when he gave him a false information. “I had to give in my best because I know this is a really sensitive matter for you, and Vera and I will always try our best to make you win.” James assured, with a smile. Charles patted his shoulder, and heaved a sigh. “Now, all we have to do is to wait for the judge to make her decision.” Charles uttered, staring into blank space. “Yes. Exactly. Why don’t we grab a burger while we wait? I really don’t want us to be tensed at all. Let’s have it in mind that the good always win, and we will certainly win this case.” Vera said, trying to brighten up the mood. Charles nodded in agreement, and they went to grab a burger. After the break, they were called in back to the court, and everyone had maintained their position back. “And now, here is my decision.”
