Revenge of the Rejected

Chapter 86

Josephine’s hands became tied up, and she felt really angered, and also wished she had something against him, without involving her. “You win.” She said in anger, and walked out on him. Charles smiled, and stared at her as she left, with her hair bouncing and her heels tapping the ground fiercely. Charles exhaled, and felt relieved. “Finally ticked you off the list.” He said under his breath and sat down to order food. After Charles had dinner, he looked at his watch to see if it was still alright to go out. He wanted to see James in the hospital, so he drove off to the hospital. James was shocked to see Charles walk into his ward. He quickly sat up, and couldn’t maintain eye contact with him. “You don’t have to be that way, James. Although, I’m annoyed because that information could have cost me my life, but at the same time, it wasn’t your fault.” James looked up with teary eyes, and sniffled. “I apologize. Next time, I’ll ensure the information is 100% valid.” James expressed how apologetic he was, and Charles sighed. He sat by James’ side, and clicked his tongue. “It’s fine. Mark’s just increasing the punishment he deserves. Everyday for the thief, one day for the owner.” Charles assured, and patted James on his shoulder. Charles and James conversed for a while until James changed the topic. “So, how is the court case going to be? Do you have any mind-blowing plans for it?” James asked, out of curiosity. “Well, not really. But it has to work in my favor, and my father better be prepared for it.” Two days after, Charles was in his house, getting prepared for the day he had been waiting for. It was the day he was meant to appear in court. He got dressed, and smirked while looking into the mirror as he was prepared to see his father, lose. “You’re all prepared?” Vera asked as soon as Charles walked down to the sitting room. “Yes, I am. I’m fully ready.” Charles said as she slid his right hand into his pocket. Then they both walked out of the house, and got into the car. While in the car, Vera tried to make sure Charles was okay, and not feeling any insecurity or anxiousness.“How do you feel? I hope you aren’t feeling uncomfortable in any way?” Vera asked as she pinned a few strands of her hair to her ear. “I’m fine, Vera. You don’t need to worry about how I could be feeling, right now. I’m fine.” Charles exhaled, tired of Vera, trying to check in. Soon, they met traffic, and the journey seemed longer, since cars were moving slowly. Charles leaned towards his window, and rested his head on it, staring at the cars, and pedestrians, walking and crossing the road. Suddenly, he jerked his head backward as he noticed cars that looked like his father’s collection. He couldn’t tell which one was his father’s car, or if they were his father’s men. “Pass through another route.” He instructed his driver immediately. Vera looked at him, wondering what was going on. “Is there anything wrong, Charles?” She asked, out of concern. “Look at that car. It looks just like my father’s car, and look at that one over there too. This place doesn’t feel safe.” Charles explained, and looked around for any other one. The driver turned around to pass another route. Although, it was quite difficult to make that turn, but there was no choice. Charles felt a bit relieved when they got to another route, and thankfully, there was no traffic here, and things were smooth. “My father can be crazy. I wouldn’t want him to have his way the way he wants it. We have to be at alert.” Charles said to Vera, and she nodded. Charles exhaled, and then leaned to rest on the car seat. Seeing a car that looked like his father’s car was weird, and it had juggled up his spirit, and it felt like he had stressed himself even as he was in the car. He shut his eyes to get a little rest, but Vera tapped him again. He opened his eyes in response, but he figured out that she was looking in one direction. He also traced her gaze, and was shocked to see a few more cars that were like his father’s collection. “Shit! What the hell is going on? Take another route, immediately. Come on!” Charles urged, beginning to feel frustrated. The driver immediately checked out another route, and drove through, but they saw the same thing they were avoiding. Charles got frustrated, but kept trying other routes, until after an hour before they had a journey, free of Lincoln’s kind of car. When they got to the court, Charles felt more relieved, and walked into the court, with Vera by his side. He took his seat, and patiently waited for the time in which everything was going to start. “I feel a bit tensed, even when I know you’re likely to win.” Vera confessed as she stared at the judge’s seat. Charles chuckled. “You really don’t need to. As for me, I’m so ready to kick his ass, and show him he could have messed with other people, including me, in the past, but it’s going to be hard for him, this time.” Charles said and adjusted his tie. Soon, it was time for the court case to start. Charles stood up on the instruction of the judge, and he introduced himself, but when it was time for Mr. Lincoln to do the same, he was nowhere to be found. Not even Tyson or Carlos were present, and this got on Charles’ nerves. “We’ll have to wait a little for Mr. Lincoln to get here, in case he has a little trouble on the road.” The judge said, and cleared his throat. Charles and Vera shared looks that showed that they were not certain of what Lincoln had in mind to do.
