Revenge of the Rejected
Those words felt like golden eggs to Charles as this was what he had been expecting for so long. To him, it was so certain that if Josephine should speak to Mr. Dane, concerning the land, it would be solved. Charles let out a loud laughter of joy, then hugged her tight. Josephine was glad that she made him this happy, and she cherished that moment. “Thank you so much, Josephine. You are such a darling. I can’t believe this, but I guess this is real.” Charles said, trying hard to contain his joy in the best way possible. “It is real, Charles. I have decided to help you, and I will ensure I stand on Alaric’s neck to make sure he considers buying your land for a very good price.” Josephine assured him. “Oh, my goodness. Thank you so much. I really do appreciate you, Josephine. In fact, I’m so lucky to have met someone as golden as you.” Charles complimented her, trying to make her feel really good. He knew that the more he made her blush and feel good, they more she would want to give in her best to persuade Mr. Dane. “It’s my pleasure, Charles. I’ll do anything to make you happy. Just anything.” She confessed, and gave him a peck on his cheek. He wasn’t expecting that, but it was fine as long as she was on her way to being really useful to him. “Let’s have dinner at a restaurant, tonight.” Charles suggested with a bright smile. “Sure! That’s a good idea.” Josephine said in excitement Then she interlocked arms with him as they headed off to a nearby restaurant. “Sure. Do anything you want. Enjoy this treatment while it lasts.” Charles thought in his head. Soon, they got to a restaurant, and ordered different varieties of food which included crabs, steak, fish, cheese, and many more which made everyone baffled on why they were eating so much like that. “So, I’m certain there’ll be a gain for you at the end of this, isn’t it? So, what are you planning to do when you get your own personal share of the money?” Josephine asked, out of curiosity and willingness to know him more. “Well, I’ll love to invest it in nice business companies, to help the needy, and so much more.” “Oh, I see.” Josephine remarked, nodding her head, little by little.“What about you? Tell me, what do you use your money for?” Charles questioned, but had a strong guess of what she used her money for, mostly. Josephine felt a bit weird to tell it to him, especially because he had mentioned investments and other great things, he was using the money for, than hers which was none other than buying the latest designs, and hopping on trends. “Well, all I do with my money basically is to make myself happy, and to be able to stand in public with confidence.” “I see. Well, that’s fine. Afterall, we’re all striving for the money just to get the comfort, and kind of life we want, isn’t it?” Charles said, to make her feel calm. He didn’t want anything that would make her doubt that he liked her, although he didn’t. After series of cool conversations between them, they headed home. Charles escorted her, and then headed back to his lodge. He laid on the bed, feeling a bit relieved. Now, all he had to wait for was the good news which was about Mr. Dane agreeing to the land sale. AT MR. DANE’S HOME Josephine served Mr. Dane, tea, and then sat beside him. “Baby, you look a bit stressed today. You know I already told you to try your best not to stress yourself too much, and also try to give more work to those working for you. Just trust them. They will carry out the work the way you want it.” Josephine said as she caressed his head. Dane loved the feel of her hand on his head, and couldn’t help but desire more. He felt relaxed, and exhaled. “I know. It’s not just easy to stop what you’ve been doing for a long time. I’m used to carrying out these tasks on my own, and now that I’m getting older, I know I have to reduce my work load, and trust me, I’m trying.” Mr. Dane said, and sipped his tea. “Anyways, I know you’ll gradually change, and get used to it.” “Of course.” “By the way, there is something that caught my attention, and I feel you should give it a try, because it’s worth it.” Josephine started, hoping her conversation would go well as she wanted to impress Charles so bad. She was willing to do anything just to gain more of his love, even if it meant having to poison Mr. Dane’s food. “What’s that?” Mr. Dane asked, inquisitively.“Well, it’s about Mr. Charles’ issue. I feel the land is worth a try.” Josephine suggested as she caressed his head, and ears. “What makes you think so?” Mr. Dane asked, now staring at her. “Look honey. I feel the land is really fruitful. We can turn it into a farm, and then make lots of money from it. If you don’t mind, I’ll like to be the one to handle it.” Josephine explained with a smile. “Oh, really? You mean you’re interested in that land, and you want it. Josephine, you want to start a farm business?” Mr. Dane exclaimed in surprise and joy. “Yes, of course. Can’t I?” “Obviously, you can. But I have never thought you would consider such type of business, and I’m really happy for that decision which you have taken. I do not want to make you forfeit it because I’m not convinced about the land or sort.” “So, what does that mean?” Josephine asked, beginning to feel a surge of excitement from within her. “It means for your sake, I’ll be acquiring that land, and it will be in your name.” Mr. Dane agreed to it, with a smile as he knew how happy she would be. Josephine jumped up and squealed in excitement and joy. She was glad that she would finally be able to give Charles the good news, and that he would love her even more. At least, when he sees her as someone capable, she felt it was certain that he would stick with her for longer than she could ever think. She had imagined far enough that she was going to get married with him. If possible, flee far from this city, and get married to him somewhere else where Alaric would have no clue. “Thank you so much, honey!” She appreciated him with a smile on her face. “You’re welcome, my love.” Unknown to him, Josephine, his wife, was really happy not because she wanted the land as hers but because she wanted to secure the deal for Charles, and Charles alone. Mr. Alaric Dane then picked up his phone, and dialed Charles’ number. Charles who was still on the bed, thinking hard of how Mr. Dane would react to Josephine’s request or how Josephine was going to put it to him, jumped up when he saw Mr. Dane’s number. He paced around for a while, trying to guess why he called him.“Could he have accepted or he is calling me to yell at me, and sort?” Charles asked himself but could not wait to give himself an answer before he answered the call. “Good evening, Mr. Dane.” He greeted, calmly. “Good evening, Mr. Lincoln. I hope I’m not calling at a late time?” “No, it’s fine.” “Well, I called to inform you that I have agreed to purchase the land at any amount you want to sell it for. Please I’ll love it if you can come here tomorrow morning to sign the deal.” Mr. Dane informed him happily, knowing fully well how Charles would be glad as well. “Oh, my goodness! Thank you so much. I really do appreciate. I’ll be right there, tomorrow morning.” Charles said, excitedly, and Mr. Dane hung up. Charles jumped several times, happy that he had nailed it, then he booked a flight online, hoping to get back to his city, tomorrow. That night, Charles slept, feeling overjoyed, and like a baby. Although, at first, it was hard for him to fall asleep, but he ended up sleeping. The next day, he didn’t waste any time on anything, and rushed down to Mr. Dane’s home. He was welcomed in, and the first person he noticed at the stair case was Josephine, who dressed sexily. She smiled and winked at him, and he only smiled at her a little, and focused on Mr. Dane who was in the sitting room, waiting for him. “Welcome, Mr. Lincoln.” Mr. Dane welcomed him warmly. Then they got down to business, and signed each contract. Mr. Dane didn’t waste any time, and sent the money to the stated account. Charles stood up along with Mr. Dane, and they shook hands. “Nice doing business with you.” Mr. Dane said, with a smile. “Same here, Mr. Dane.” Soon after the formalities was over, Charles rushed back to his hotel, and packed up. His flight was just a few hours away, and he didn’t want to miss it for anything. He had rushed out of Mr. Dane’s home before Mr. Dane decided to leave as he knew that Josephine wouldn’t be able to follow after him in Mr. Dane’s presence. As he got out of the hotel, and placed his things inside his car, he noticed Josephine who stood by his car, tapping her feet, and she had folded her arms. Charles already knew what was up, so he played cool as he got into his car, and wound down to hear what she had to say. Josephine scoffed. “Are you just going to leave like that? Without even a thank you!” She said, in frustration. Then Charles sighed, and smiled a little which was obviously forced. “Thanks.” He said flatly, and started the car. Josephine was quite taken aback as she didn’t expect him to act that way to her, not even so sudden. “I don’t understand. What about the feelings you had for me? Why are you acting like you can really be fine without me when you love me?” Josephine said, feeling a bit broken. Charles scoffed, and smirked at her without saying a word. It was then that it hit her that she had been played by him all this while, and that he had not even the slightest desire for her. “Are you trying to say you never loved me? That you played me just to get what you want? Is that it?” Josephine asked, trying to confirm what she didn’t want it to be. “A business man can do anything. Bye, Josephine.” Charles replied, with a straight face, and drove off.
