Revenge of the Rejected
Charles couldn’t believe his ears. He wondered how Josephine would be friends with people who wanted what she had. It was understandable that they could also desire what she had, but when it comes to a man, it shouldn’t be so. “I don’t think I heard you right.” Charles said, staring at her to be certain she meant what she said. “I said I want you to be mine. Be my man. Look, I really admire you, Charles. I admire your physique, and you look intelligent.” “Thank you for the compliment, but I’ll pass, Miss.” Charles rejected her offer, and cleared his throat. Still, Josephine’s friend was relentless. “I can give you whatever you want. Is it hot and constant sex? Money, fame, a high position, respect, lands? Just name it. I’ll make it happen, instantly.” She said, trying to tempt Charles enough for him to accept her. “I’m sorry, I have to make a pass on that. I still stand on my response. If you don’t mind, I think I’ll take my leave.” Charles tried to excuse himself. “Hold on. Please hold on. I don’t want you to leave, just like that. Alright, wait, wait. Is there anything you want that you feel I’ve not mentioned? Come on, speak to me about it.” “I have told you that I’m not interested.” “Look, I understand that it might be because of Josephine you’re acting this way, but trust me, she won’t know about this. I give you my word.” She said as she leaned closer to him, and tried to kiss him. But Charles stopped her, and placed his hands on her shoulders rigidly. “Please do not ever say such to me, and if you talk about this again, I won’t hesitate to rat you out to your friend.” Charles threatened, and walked out on her. As he left the corridor which she had called him to, Josephine’s other two friends began to applaud, beaming with smiles, while Josephine was blushing. Charles looked back at Yvonne, and noticed her smiling as well. He became baffled on what was going on, and couldn’t even think or guess what just happened. “Is there anything wrong? Why are you all smiling?” Charles asked, out of curiosity. “Because you just passed a test.” Jenna replied as she adjusted her gown.“A test? What kind of test?” Before they could say a word, Charles realized that Yvonne’s advances were nothing but a test. His mouth gaped open, in surprise. “Oh, I see. If I understand what you mean, all that happened at that corner was all a test.” Charles repeated in the form of a question. “Exactly. We wanted to confirm if you’re interested in Josie, and Josie alone. Now, we have confirmed it, and we can see you’re a good man.” Jennie uttered with a smile. Josephine walked up to Charles and hugged him tight. She was so glad that Charles stayed true to her, and even Yvonne who seemed to be a sexy lady was less of a temptation for him. “Thank you so much, baby. For being true, and not a cheat.” Josephine appreciated him, happily. “Tch! But you are free to act like a cheat? Women!” Charles thought to himself, and put up a fake smile to reciprocate her gestures. “Alright, alright. You know what? Let’s all go golfing. Charles, you know how to play golf right?” Yvonne questioned, interrupting what she thought to be a lovely atmosphere. “Yes, I do. But I have a fear that you ladies are going to win against me, because I’m not that much of a golf player.” Charles chuckled lightly. Josephine and her friends laughed while covering their mouth in modesty, then Josephine held Charles’ hand. “Come on. As long as I’m here, and you’re against Yvonne, and Jennie, you can never lose.” Josephine said, sexily. Charles laughed out loud. “But if I am against you, I’m going to lose, right? That’s what you mean.” Josephine laughed lightly, and smacked her lips. “No, I’ll let you win.” “Well, I hope one day, I can actually say that to you, too.” Charles teased, and they all went out. They got into the car, and drove off to the golf field. Charles breathed in fresh air when he got there. He felt peaceful while on the gold field. The grass was really green, and everywhere was wide enough for one to play in whatever style they wanted to. Josephine and her friends were all happy to be there, and they could tell that they were going to have a nice time being there. Charles became lost in thought as the ladies sorted out all they needed, and all. He hoped deep in him that he would be able to get Mr. Dane to buy the land. The system hadn’t brought him any task, so he could check if he was lucky enough to get persuasive skills. “This is harder than I thought.” He thought out loud, If not for the system’s gift, he wouldn’t have been able to come this far. Now that he couldn’t get what he needed at that moment, he found it so hard to be calm. All this while, he was always calm that things would go his way, but this situation reminded him of how things were hard without the system. “So, if this system leaves me at the end, does that mean I’ll be back to zero?” He thought to himself critically. Although, he knew he would still be wealthy, but it was also through intellect and mind-blowing business ideas that got him to the level he was at, so far. But then, he decided to shake off those thoughts as he felt that things were still going to work out once the system left. He stood up from where he was and joined Josephine and her friends. “Oh, come on, Charles. Get ready to be beaten.” Yvonne shouted at the top of her voice. Charles chuckled, and got ready to play golf with them. While they were playing, they had fun, especially when they laughed so much at Charles’ weird strikes which got his balls nowhere near the pit-hole. After golfing, they went to see a movie, later in the evening. Josephine and her friends sat excitedly as the movie began, but Charles was irritated at this moment. He had no time to watch a movie, and was growing impatient. Watching a movie was time wastage, and the worst was if he still wasn’t able to get what he needed from her. All through the movie, Charles only felt angered by their laughter, and gestures, but kept himself composed. After the movie, Yvonne and Jennie, bade goodbye, and only Charles and Josephine were left, walking back home. “So, how was the movie?” Josephine asked, with a smile on her face. Charles hoped that she wouldn’t ask him questions about the movie as he didn’t concentrate at all on it. “Well, the movie was great.” He replied, faking a smile. He stared at Josephine, and could tell that she wanted to ask more questions, so to prevent himself from losing points with her, he hushed her with his index finger on her lips. Josephine was surprised, and had an adrenaline rush. Her body charged up, and it felt as if electricity ran through her veins. “Watching a movie with you, is everything, Josephine.” He said softly, with a smile as he rubbed her palm, lovingly. Josephine was still left, feeling overwhelmed. She had never felt this way before for anyone, and not even Mr. Dane had been this romantic to her. The love she had for him, tripled up, and this time, she felt she wouldn’t be able to live without him when it was time for him to leave. Even as much as she wanted to make most of the time that was left with him, she kept hungering for him the more. Then she stopped abruptly, and faced Charles, locking eyes with him. “Charles.” She called his name softly. “Yes?” Charles answered. “I have decided to help you.” She dropped the bomb, looking lost in love with him. “What do you mean? I don’t understand.” Charles asked, trying to be certain that he wasn’t reading another meaning to what she said. Josephine smiled, and held his hand. “I mean I’ll talk to Dane so he can help you out with what you need.” She repeated.
