Revenge of the Rejected

Chapter 65

Charles wondered what she had to tell him so much that she looked a bit nervous. He understood that young people like him who are still tagged as adults could still act nervous, but seeing someone way older than him, act nervous, was surprising for him. “Are you okay?” He asked, worried about her. “Yes… yes, I’m fine. Uhm… So, I said I have something to talk to you about, and…” A call interrupted her, and Charles had to give her time to check her phone. He noticed her strange quietness, and looked at her. He could tell that her nervousness increased, and this time, it looked more like fear. It seemed to him that the call she was receiving was an important one, and probably one which relayed bad news. Then he waited for her to be done with her call before asking her if anything was wrong, hoping that she would speak out. Charles stood up, and walked around a bit, although, not far from Rosaline. He just decided to give her space, so if she wanted to spill out her emotions on the call, she would. After a little while, Rosaline dropped her phone, and her mood was no longer the same. Charles sat beside her, and placed his hand on hers. “Is there anything wrong? You don’t look too good.” Charles spoke out, concerned about her sudden mood. “Nothing, dear. I just received a call on how hectic my work is going to be. You don’t have to worry about that. Can you… Can you take me back home?” Rosaline requested as she stood up slowly. “Already? I thought you wanted to say something to me.” “I just need to rest. What I wanted to say isn’t that important. Just a few random words, and now, my rest is more important. Please take me home.” Rosaline said, and exhaled. Charles didn’t understand why she was acting this way all of a sudden, but he decided to let her go, hoping she would come around later. “Alright then.” He succumbed to her. Charles led her back to his car, and he drove her off home. All through the time they were together in the car, silence reigned, and none of them talked about anything. It was unlike when they were on the way to the zoo, but Charles understood Rosaline just needed her space, and it wasn’t nice to breach her privacy forcefully. AT THE ADAMS’ HOUSE Mark was pacing around, and breathing heavily in anger. “Arrrrgh!” He yelled, and punched the sofa. Angela who was staring into blank space with folded arms, glanced at him with no emotions, and sighed before staring into blank space again. “How could this happen? Why did he have to do a deep research?” Mark voiced out, feeling pained. “It’s just a contract which you lost. You can always gain another one, Mark.” Angela finally spoke out as she was getting tired of his rantings. “Angela, I didn’t just lose the contract, I lost a huge amount of money!” Mark voiced out, glaring his eyes. Angela turned to him, with a look of surprise. “You lost a huge amount of money? Wait, you signed that particular terms and conditions?” “Yes. I took the risk because I know the profits would be massive.” Mark replied, and slammed his hand on his face. Mr. Darwin was one successful business man which most business men wanted to have a partnership with. But there was one thing about signing a contract with him as he detested dishonest people, and cheats. He usually made people sign a terms and condition agreement which contained them consenting to their investment, getting rid off if they are guilty of something really bad. Something which could tarnish their image, his, and his companies’ image. “Jeez! Mark, that was too much. You know very well that you’ve done a lot, and most of them are recent. How could you make such a stupid decision!” Angela scolded him with anger, and irritation. “Don’t nag me, Angela. I have made the mistake, and it’s gone. What’s my issue right now is how broke I have become.” He said, under his breath, and he and Angela sighed in sadness. CHARLES’ HOME Charles walked into his house, staggering a bit as he got into the sitting room. He shook his head a bit, and began to see clearly again, then he managed to walk up the stairs. As soon as he got into his room, he began to unbutton his shirt so he would take a shower to feel better at least, but as he got halfway in unbuttoning his shirt, a sharp pain hit his chest. “Arggh!” He grunted in pain as he squeezed his chest, and fell on his knees. He squinted his eyes in pain as he tried to gain composure, but as he opened his eyes, it seemed as if his room was upside down. His vision became fuzzy, and blurry that he thought he was going to go blind in no time. He reached out his hand on the bed to take his phone which he had dropped on the bed as soon as he got into his room. Luckily, he was able to get a hold of his phone, so he dialed Vera’s number. He couldn’t shout or raise his voice, if not, he would have called his maid. So, it was only best, and smart for him to reach out to Vera. Fortunately, Vera answered the call after it rang for a while. “Hello.” “Please come over as soon as you can. Some…” Charles coughed badly, and then his lips went dry, and scaly. “Hello? Is anything wrong, Charles?” Vera asked, beginning to get worried. “Something doesn’t feel right with me. Come as fast as you can.” Charles instructed, then dropped his phone as he felt he was getting weaker as he talked. He tried to stand, but he fell down, and this time, he fell flatly on the ground. “Mmm…” He grunted again, and his breath became heavy. He stared at the door as his vision became blurry, and then his eyes gradually gave way to darkness.
