Revenge of the Rejected
Charles drove back home, feeling a bit achieved for the day as he had done everything he wanted to do and they all went well. He picked up his phone while he was in the sitting room, then dialed Vera's number. “I need you to bring me the reports of those who have submitted their assignment.” “Noted. I'll do that.” He hung up, and exhaled sharply, then stood up and headed towards his room to have his bath. As he got to his room, he pulled off his clothes, and walked into the bathroom. He turned on the shower, and allowed the water to sprout on every part of his body. The water soothed him, and relieved him of all his tensed bones. For such a man who goes through so much stress, and hardly took a nap, this was a rare occurrence for him to have a nap. And he was going to use this time to go through a few files which Vera would bring soon. After having a shower, he dressed up into a more comfortable clothes. Soon after he laid back on his sofa in the sitting room, Vera arrived, and she handed over the files which he had asked for. “Thanks. You should have some rest. We have both had a long day in one day or the other.” Vera smiled, and nodded, then she left. Charles flipped through the pages of their assignment, and he nodded his head in satisfaction. He loved the way each of them outlined their suggestions, and he could tell that they each had a bright hope for the company. “Mrs. Adams certainly made them suppress their wish to give suggestions on how to grow the company.” He said, under his breath. After going through it all, he closed it up, and went to his bedroom. Now, he was ready to have his sleep before the next day when he had a lot to do as well. Charles stared at the chandelier for a while until he dozed off. The next day, he stood up, and had his bath. His phone began to ring, so he answered it when he confirmed it was Vera. “Everything has been arranged, and the people are all here.” “Alright, you can start sharing all that needs to be shared, but they also have to wait because we’ll have to introduce Mr. Daniels, and put him into the light.”“Noted.” Vera responded, and then Charles hung up. As soon as Charles ended the call, he dressed up, and did a few other things until he was done, and ready for the day. His driver drove him off to the venue which was a large park. Many people had gathered there, and as they were receiving all he and Mr. Daniels had contributed for, they went to the main shed that was created for them. “Mr. Charles, it’s nice to see you.” One of the important men in the society greeted him. “It’s so nice to see you too. I’m glad you also came out to support this.” Charles thanked him, with a smile on his face. “Sure. It’s my pleasure.” He said, and shook hands with Charles. After they had shared enough, it was time for Charles to come up to the stage where the people were waiting for him to get to. “Good afternoon, everyone. I hope you’re all doing great? I’m so glad to be in your midst today, and I’m also glad I was able to share with you the love we ought to spread in the world.” Everyone clapped happily, excited about his presence. Charles kept talking about a few things, and making a few more promises which made everyone whoop and scream in joy. “Alright, so I also want you all to appreciate Mr. Daniels, the assistant governor. We both came together to make this a reality.” Charles said, trying to make Mr. Daniels likeable. Everyone cheered as Mr. Daniels stood up, waved and smiled to the public from where he sat. “He is such a good man. He has the love of you all in his heart, and he has so many plans that inspire me to do more for the public. With this, I hope you enjoy the rest of your day.” Charles ended his speech, and walked down from the stage. Everyone clapped as Charles went down the stage, and got into his car with Vera. “That went well.” Vera said, with a smile. “Sure, it did.” I replied as I loosened my tie. “So, once you hand over the position to Mr. Daniels, you’re going to face your family.” “Yes. Right now, they should enjoy their freedom, and happiness while it lasts.” Charles smirked, and closed his eyes to relax. Soon, Charles got home, and Vera left for her home as well, after making reports for the day. When Charles had his bath, he settled down to eat, but his phone rang. “Even while having dinner.” He said, under his breath, beginning to feel a bit irritated. He decided not to check who was trying to reach him as he wanted to have a time to himself, but the person called again, and he was forced to check who it was. To his surprise, it was Rosaline. Then he answered her call to know what was going on. “Can you come over to my house? I want to see you.” She requested calmly. Charles felt she had something to say over him paying her rent fee. The landlady might have given away his description to her, if not his identity. But one thing he wasn’t sure about was if she detested it, and was going to refer to it as a debt to him. He hoped it wasn’t going to be that way. Immediately, he wore clothes he could appear in, outside, and then went out of the house, taking his car along with him. As soon as he got to Rosaline’s street, he slowed down his car, and parked it somewhere else. Then he walked a bit more before he spotted her house. Charles checked his watch, and then walked up to her house, and cleared his throat as he got to her front porch. Somehow, he felt a bit unsettled, and hoped things were fine. But as he took a step forward to her door, he noticed the shadows of two people in her home.
