Revenge of the Rejected
Charles drove back home, and when he got back home, he took a shower which relieved him of his tensed bones. He had a long day, and there was no time he dedicated to rest. He smoothened his hair under the shower, and shook his hair again, then he scrubbed his body a little, and walked out of the bathroom. After putting on his robe, he laid on his bed, staring up at the ceiling. “Tomorrow is another day.” He muttered under his breath, and shut his eyes to sleep. The next day, he got prepared for the meeting which he had been postponing for a while now; the Governor’s meeting with the board of members. He put a call through to his chief advisor which he had assigned for himself through a call. “Good morning, sir.” The chief advisor greeted, formally. “Good morning. I want you to set up a meeting with everyone necessary. Let’s meet in the conference room, and I should be there in an hour.” Charles instructed him, then hung up. He went through his wardrobe, and brought out the best suit which he bought for an expensive amount. He smiled as he nodded his head in satisfaction, and got ready to put it on. After getting fully ready, he got into his car, and was driven off to his office. Charles had never thought he would one day sit on the Governor’s seat, and feel like a King in the office, but here he was, living a dream he never had. He was glad that even as he was achieving things he never planned for, they were all good, and great. Soon, he got to the office, and his chief advisor walked into his office. “Sir, everyone is now present at the conference room.” He informed him, respectfully. “Alright.” Charles stood up, adjusted his suit, and headed towards the conference room. As he got there, everyone stood up, and welcomed him heartily with smiles. “You can all have your seat.” Charles urged as he sat down. He looked at them each, and nodded his head. They all looked professional, and ready to do his bid, anytime. “I’m so glad you all are here, and thank you for the patience, and understanding. I’m Charles Lincoln, your new Governor.” He introduced himself, with a charming, composed smile. Everyone all stood up to exchange pleasantries with him, before he continued.“So, I’m certain you all are hardworking, and intelligent, and I’ll beckon you all to keep going on that path as I would love to see progress. Also, the people don’t know this, I won’t be the governor for long, so I’ll only do my best before I leave.” Everyone looked taken aback, but they couldn’t keep that expression on, for long as they had to applaud, and apart from that, there was no time for their curiosity to be satisfied. It was a brief meeting, and Charles was now outside with the chief advisor. “So, I need you to show me the neighborhoods that are terribly suffering from under development.” Charles requested as he slipped his hands into his pockets. “Noted, sir. Since you want to have a look, yourself, I’ll take you to the few under developed areas.” The chief advisor uttered, and got into the car with Charles. Charles’ driver drove them off to one of the neighborhoods as directed by the chief advisor, and when they got down from the car, Charles could already see how bad everything was. It was like a slum. There was water everywhere, and puddles. The chief advisor clicked his tongue, and shook his head slightly. “This place is really bad, and I’m sure the rest are just that way as well.” “Yes, Governor. You don’t want to imagine how the rest are.” “Alright, start a project on them. I want the roads to be built, water and electricity to also be supplied. That’s the best idea, isn’t it?” “You’re right, sir. We can also do the same for three more neighborhoods. Our budget is big enough to handle that.” The chief advisor suggested as he adjusted his glasses. “That’s great.” After checking out some parts of the neighborhood, and hearing about their history, he decided to call it a day. While going back home, he decided to call his assistant governor, Daniels for a meeting at a 5-star restaurant. Daniels agreed to meet him, and in about 2 hours, both of them were present at the 5-star restaurant. They had been served steak, and wine which Charles found himself enjoying. “So, how do you see yourself as an upcoming Governor?” Charles questioned as he sliced through his steak with the help of his fork and knife. “Well, I see myself as a great governor though. I aspire to make a lot of things better. That George scumbag did nothing but devoured the money which was meant for the betterment of the society.” Daniels replied. “I also noticed that. George had probably planned to spend more if he had gotten the Governorship title as I could see records of him keeping the money in a stack.” Charles attested as he sipped his wine. He was studying Daniels to see if he too was a good candidate for governorship. Even if he wasn’t interested in governing the people, he desired that the person who would take his place, would be someone reasonable. “Anyways, I called you here for a plan. I want you and I to invest into an orphanage.” Daniels looked taken aback as he wasn’t expecting that, but his expression brightened up immediately after that. “That sounds interesting and thoughtful.” He commended George whole-heartedly. “Thank you. And that’s not all, actually. I want us to also give a lot of useful resources and meet the needs of the less privileged. You know very well that this is very important in building trust with the public.” “Yes, I’m aware.” “Much better. So, this is my strategy to help you get recognized by the public, and to ensure they feel safe with you, becoming the next Governor. We can’t leave a chance for George to get back in.”
