Revenge of the Rejected

Chapter 44

After attending to Mark, Charles sat back on his chair, and exhaled. He had had a long day, and needed some rest. Then he thought about what Mark had to offer, and he felt it was a trap. But the only way he could be convinced was if Mark proved his point. He picked up his phone, and texted Mark, telling him to prove how serious he was in giving him information. After sending him a message, he stood up, and stretched as his bones cracked. “It’s time I went to bed.” He said out loud. Just as he was about turning to head upstairs, the screen popped up. “You are to spend 100 million dollars in 24 hours.” Then his phone beeped, and was credited 100 million dollars. He yawned and stretched again. “When tomorrow comes, I’ll know what to do with the 100 million dollars. As for now, I have to go to bed.” He said, talking to the air as he walked upstairs. He got to his bedroom, pulled off his clothes and allowed himself to fall helplessly on the bed. “Uhh… What a day.” He spoke, in a relaxed tone. His eyes became drowsy, and his body was more tired. He shut his eyes, and exhaled, and that was it. He fell asleep. The next day, Charles woke up, and was feeling much better, and stronger. He was ready for the day. As he stood up, he remembered he had 100 million dollars to spend in about 10 hours. He paced around, and thought of what he could do. He wasn’t ready to buy a private jet as he had plans regarding that. An idea sprang up in his mind immediately, and he was ready to work on it. He walked up to the bathroom, had his bath, wore his clothes, and then drove off to Gray Tech Company. He wasn’t so certain if he would be allowed to go in to Mr. Grayson’s office because of the way he treated him yesterday, but he had his reasons for doing that. “Good day, I’m Charles Lincoln. Please I’ll like to see Mr. Grayson.” Charles requested, sounding formal. “Oh, alright. I’ll put a call through to him.” The receptionist replied, with a gentle smile. “Alright, thank you.”Charles sat down patiently, and hoped that Mr. Grayson wasn’t someone to hold a grudge so easy. He watched as the receptionist made the call, and when she dropped the landline, she looked at him. “Sir, you may go in.” She said with a smile. Charles was glad and didn’t really expect that Mr. Grayson would welcome him still. He stood up, and walked into his office where he met Mr. Grayson sitting, and working on his laptop. “Mr. Charles! Finally, I get to meet you.” He said as he stood up, and reached out his hand to Charles for a handshake. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Grayson. I apologize on what happened yesterday. I was a bit tight on schedule, and it wasn’t going to be nice to keep you waiting or to disappoint the others.” Charles lied. “Oh! I understand. I was a bit annoyed yesterday, to be frank. But seeing you right now just showed you’re not proud or stuff. You just couldn’t help it yesterday.” “Thanks so much for your understanding, Mr. Grayson.” Charles appreciated him from the bottom of his heart. Although, he had intentionally done that just so Mr. Grayson wouldn’t take him lightly, and for someone who could be seen anytime he wanted to. It was certain that next time, if he wished to see him, he would have to call to confirm of he was busy. “Yeah, sure. So, I came over yesterday to talk to you about a business offer which I want you to consider. I watched the recent contest you had with the Adams, and I must say, I was impressed with your robot prototype.” “Oh! Thank you so much. I really appreciate.” “You’re welcome. So, the thing is I want you and I to be business partners. I want us to make more robots like that. Your workers, and mine would collaborate to make such robots, and more.” Mr. Grayson suggested with an excited smile. “Okay, the idea is really great, and it is a great opportunity to work with you. True, my workers and yours collaborating together would make our robot prototype really exceptional because different ideas are coming together.” “Exactly! You understand this.” Mr. Grayson said with a burst of energy. “Alright, I’m in. When do I need to sign the document?” Charles inquired as he sat up comfortably. “Here is the document. Our start up capital to test these things out first is about two hundred million dollars, but I’ll require a hundred million dollars from you.” Mr. Grayson explained. “Oh, sure! That’s fine.” Charles grinned, and picked up the pen he was given, then he signed the document after going through it. Soon, he was done signing it, and had transferred the money. Just the exact amount he needed to spend had been taken from his account. Charles, and Mr. Grayson shook hands, happy with their decisions. After a brief conversation with Mr. Grayson, Charles walked out of his office happily. Then he called Vera through the phone. “Good morning, Vera.” “Good morning. You sound like you’re in a good mood. What’s the occasion?” Vera asked with a slight smile over the phone. She was always glad to hear about good news from Charles, or even when she had to be the one to spill it. “Well, I just signed a partnership contract with Mr. Grayson.” Charles revealed, knowing fully well that Vera was going to be really happy as she really wanted him to get a contract with Mr. Grayson. “Oh, my goodness! That’s great news. How did you do it? I thought you weren’t really that interested in whatever he had come for.” Vera said, still surprised. “I was. But I had to…” Charles noticed a car speeding towards him right at the corner of Gray Tech, and he felt stuck that he couldn’t move.
