Revenge of the Rejected
Charles got back to his senses, and immediately, he pulled away, and the speeding car came to a halt. The driver quickly came outside with pleading eyes. “I’m so sorry sir. I had a fault with my brake. Please don’t press charges against me.” The man pleaded earnestly. Charles was a bit annoyed because he could have been in an accident because of him and an apology wasn’t going to take away the pain. But then, he decided to tone down his anger, seeing how sincere the man was. It didn’t look to him like he was faking anything. “You should always check your car before taking it out. Even you could have had a grave accident which wouldn’t be good for you and your loved ones.” Charles said to the man. “Thank you so much for letting this slide. I’ll take to your advice.” The man appreciated him, and then scurried back into his car, and drove off. Charles adjusted his suit, and when he faced forward, the screen popped up. “You’ve been rewarded the opportunity to pick a skill which you feel is most useful to you.” Charles was excited to pick one of the skills that was going to be showcased to him, and he hoped that the one he needed this moment would show up. “Persuasive skill, mind reading skill, strength skill.” Charles picked the mind reading skill with joy as that’s what he wanted right now. “You have successfully picked the mind reading skill.” The system announced, and disappeared. Charles walked up to his car, and got in. He discovered that his guards were not in the car and wore a baffled look. “Where are they?” He asked his driver. “They both went to the nearby restroom.” The driver replied respectfully. “Oh, I see.” Soon, the guards came in and apologized. And Charles brought out his phone, then dialed Mark’s contact. “I didn’t inform you earlier, but I need that proof before the end of today or I would not give you a chance to offer me whatever you have in mind to offer me.” Charles said to him.“Alright, alright. I’ll ensure to prove a point.” Mark responded over the phone. Charles hung up, and exhaled in a relaxed manner. They got home after what seemed like an hour, and he went to his bedroom instead and put on a much more comfortable cloth. Mark on the other hand had received Charles’ call when he was in the sitting room. He stood up, and placed both his hands on his waist, thinking of what he could quickly use to get him points. “Aha! I know just what to do.” He went upstairs to Angela’s room, and knocked until she told him to come in. “This has got to stop, and it will stop soon.” He thought to himself as he still felt disrespected by Angela. He walked in with a smile on his face, and then ran his fingers through his hair. “I have something to propose to you.” He spoke up as Angela sat comfortably on her bed. “Wow. What is that?” Angela asked, out of curiosity. “Well, I don’t know if grandmother told you about my plans on taking Charles down. I didn’t tell her in details, and I do not need to tell anyone the details too much, but I need your help.” “My help? How am I supposed to help you if you can’t tell me anything in details?” Angela scoffed and rolled her eyes. “Well, I would at least share a little information that could help you to understand how to help me.” Mark explained, trying not to ruin the perfect conversation right now. He knew Angela’s mood could just change all of a sudden, and she wouldn’t be willing to help anymore, regardless of whatever it was. So, he had to take the issue up wisely, and choose his words carefully. “Alright, let’s hear it.” Angela said, and exhaled. Mark cleared his throat, and dipped his hands into his pocket, but then, they were interrupted by Mrs. Adam who wanted to see Angela for something she needed her opinion on. She walked in, looking at both of them with a straight expression. “I want to also listen to whatever plan you both have. At least, I may be able to give you an idea as well, or guide you off what might not work out.” Mrs. Adam said, looking really determined to join in. Both Angela and Mark exchanged looks, and returned their looks back to Mrs. Adam. They didn’t have a choice than to let her in. After all, she was also more like their source of all they needed in life. After a few hours, Mark had gotten all he needed to sway Charles off his feet. With confidence, he drove off to Charles’ house, and when he got there, he had to wait in the sitting room for him. “Good day. Do you perhaps need me to serve you anything? Water, chilled juice, or snacks?” A lady asked Mark. He had never seen her before, but she looked like she was a maid. “Sorry to ask. You just got hired?” Mark asked, out of curiosity. “We are not allowed to answer questions apart from what you desire to have.” The lady replied politely. “Oh! I apologize. Uhm… if you don’t mind, I’ll like to get a chilled juice.” Mark requested. “Alright then.” Mark looked around the house. It was quite a beautiful one, and he had it in mind that he was going to acquire the house once he was done with him. He wanted to render him useless enough to make him homeless, poor, and more like a riff-raff. He was going to make him more helpless than he was before this miracle happened to him. Soon, he sighted Charles coming downstairs, and he composed himself. When Charles got to him, he cleared his throat. “Let’s skip greetings and whatever introductory message. Let’s just get to business.” Charles said, without a smile on his face. “Alright then. So, I brought in a record of the conversation between Angela and the governor. I mean, what they are planning against you.” Mark revealed, and moved the recorder on the table to Charles. “Wow. That’s great. Sounds impressive.” Charles said as he picked up the recorder, and played it. After listening to it, he exhaled and pondered for a while before meeting Mark’s gaze. “Alright, I will give you one more chance to prove that you’re on my side. You’re in my league now.”
