Revenge of the Rejected
James tried to call him again, but his phone was still switched off. He rose to his feet, then rushed to his bedroom, preparing to drive out to where Charles was, but he stopped halfway when he got back to the living room. He already had a second thought and which was to be patient. He felt that the information could wait. After all, all he just needed was confirmation if they were to go on with the idea of using vibranium or not. In a situation like this, he was used to reaching out to Vera, but now, he couldn’t. Well, he was going to get used to it, soon. He decided to put a call through to Mr. Van and the reason he decided this was so Mr. Van could get a hang of this work quickly and know what to do in different situations. “Hello, Mr. Van.” He greeted. “Good afternoon, Mr. James.” “I hope you’re getting the hang of things at work?” James asked as he sat on the sofa. “Yes, I am.” “Alright then. I need you to make a research on people who have vibranium in possession.” James instructed. “Oh! I’ll get to that. Although, with what I know, Mr. Jayla is the only man who has access to a lot of vibranium, but he rarely gives it out. Which means those who currently have it either have little of it to do something they need.” Mr. Jayla informed him. James was glad that he at least knew something and wasn’t just someone who claimed to be the best for the job by the words of his mouth, but he could see it through his actions. “Yes, we know about this. But I just need us to research deeply if there could be an unknown person who possibly has vibranium to give.” James said to him. “Alright then. I understand. I’ll give you a feedback at the end of the day.” Mr. Van assured him and they ended their conversation, thereby leading to the call, getting disconnected. After the call, James leaned back on the sofa, but he suddenly remembered that when he called Charles, his phone was going through, and then the second time, it was switched off. Apart from wanting to pass an information to him, he was hoping Charles was okay. Although, he understood that he might not want any disturbance and that might have led him to switch off his phone, but he still needed to check up on him to be certain. “Just assuming could be really harmful.” James muttered under his breath as he rose to his feet and scanned around for his car key. When he spotted his car key, he headed out of the living room and got into his car, then drove off. While driving, his phone began to ring, and hoping it was Charles, he picked up his phone only to find out it was Amelia. “Hey Amelia.” He voiced out, with a smile on his face. “Hi baby. How are you holding up?” Amelia asked, knowing fully well that he was home alone, and might be experiencing boredom. “Well, I was doing good. But now, I’m on my way to see Charles.” James informed her as he swerved to the left side of the road. “Oh. Is there a problem?” Amelia asked, out of curiosity. “None actually. I just wanted to be sure he’s fine. How’s work?” James asked, changing the subject matter. “Well, work is going well. I’m just so glad on how far I’ve come with my work.” Amelia uttered, with her voice sounding happy over the phone. James’ heart beamed in joy for her and he wished he was right beside her to hug and cuddle her, making her feel even more better. But he was going to suspend that thought until she was right beside him. “I know right? You are a hardworking woman and you deserve every progress that comes your way.” “Thanks baby.” “Alright, love. I got to go. Don’t want to keep breaking the traffic rules.” James teased and chuckled. Amelia blushed and then blew him kisses over the phone. “Extend my warmest greetings to your boss.” “Sure.” When he hung up, he dropped the phone and then focused on the road as he was trying to be certain that he still remembered the way to Charles’ mother’s cemetery. It was only once he had gone there with Charles and that was the day, he saw the softest side to Charles. That was the same day he promised to be by his side and fight for him when he is needed. Fortunately, due to some certain objects which could not be easily forgotten, he was rest assured that he was on the right path.Charles on the other hand just poured the remnant of the wine into the wine glass, and had a sip of it, then placed it on the ground. He stared at his phone, unwilling to put it on as he knew that anything that might come out of James’ mouth could cause him to break his tradition which is working on the day he was meant to spend in memorial of his mother. But then, he was also worried, hoping it wasn’t an emergency call. “System, track down James and give me his health status.” Charles inquired. He wasn’t certain if the system was going to give out James’ health status, but he tried it to find out. “LOCATION: 21, Thomspon Street, cemetery ground. HEALTH STATUS: Good” Charles was baffled on how James would be exactly at the cemetery. “Thank God, you’re fine. You had me worried.” He heard James’ voice and then he looked towards where he heard his voice from. “How are you here?” “Your phone went off after I called you once. Why won’t I be here, boss?” James said as he joined him, then he picked up the glass of wine. “I believe the last glass was reserved for me.” He said, then he greeted Charles’ mother before looking back at Charles. ~ “So, all we need to do is to wait for feedback from Mr. Van?” “Absolutely. Oh! He just sent a text.” James said, then opened the text. “Unfortunately, there is none other than Mr. Jayla.”
