Revenge of the Rejected
When James got into his car, he waited for about a few minutes to ensure that Charles wasn’t coming out anytime soon. He wouldn’t want Charles to tail him, thereby misunderstanding him. “Alright.” He uttered under his breath, and started the car, then drove off to his destination. ~ After spending a few hours on the road, he finally got to where he was heading to. As he got down from the car, he walked over to the door briskly, then knocked on the door several times before the door finally opened. Andrew poked his head out, looking surprised to see James, and even had to look beyond James to see if Charles was nearby. “James?” “Can I at least be invited in first?” James asked, with a slight smile on his face. “Oh, yeah, sure. I’m sorry. Come in.” Andrew uttered, still shocked to see James only, here. He shut the door behind him and walked alongside James. “So, what drink would you like to have?” Andrew asked politely. “I don’t mind having a chilled pineapple juice.” James responded, and sat as Andrew gave him the go-ahead to sit. James looked around, still taking in the beauty of Andrew’s house. “I don’t think I’ll ever get used to the beauty of your home.” James complimented on the sight of Andrew, holding a tray of glass of juice. Andrew chuckled and dropped the tray, containing a glass of juice for James, then he sat on the couch opposite him. “So, what’s going on? It’s a surprise seeing you here.” Andrew spoke out, curious about what James had come to do. James placed the glass of juice on the table, then let out a deep sigh as me moved to the tip of the arm chair he was sitting on. “What I’m here to ask of you, I actually want it to be confidential. Not even Charles has to know about it. Can I confide in you regarding that?” “Yes, sure. I assure you that.”“Alright. The thing is I don’t really like how things turned out, and I feel if we can make it possible, Vera could have a chance to make things right.” “How do you mean?” Andrew asked, looking baffled. “I want us to make use of that time machine. You should have worked on it more for it to be able to take us back to 2 or 3 weeks. And… and then I’ll write a note to myself or something that wouldn’t change, just so I can inform myself to help Vera correct things.” “James, why are you doing this?” “Because it’s affecting both Charles and Vera. If we can take us back in time, all these won’t have to happen.” “I understand your concern, but the decisions we make is a reflection of who we are, and if we’re going back in time to correct things, it’s more like overlooking the emotions that caused the actions of the person which you’re trying to change their actions.” “I don’t really understand.” “Vera must have acted gullible to that extent because she’s feeling really lonely. If you are able to stop Vera from making those decisions, something else is going to happen, and might even be more disastrous, because you’ve made her emotions more suppressed, which could lead to her doing something else, worse.” Andrew explained calmly. “But…but I could always be there to stop her. I could overlook her acting like she’s strong and ensure to make her feel less lonely.” “You see the whole stress you want to go through all because you want to stop what’s bound to happen. That’s not how it’s meant to be. Moreover, I can’t do that with my time machine, at least, not yet. It hasn’t really been worked on. But I just want to tell you that things like the time machine shouldn’t be used carelessly like that.” Andrew uttered. James sighed deeply, and cleaned his face with his palm. Andrew could see how good a person James was, but he hoped his good heart wouldn’t lead him to do what’s wrong, thinking it’s right. “So, what you’re trying to say is that what has happened has happened, and there’s nothing that can be done to change the past.” “Exactly, James. What you have to do is to forget Vera, move on, and keep being loyal to your boss. If you feel sorry for him, you can make him feel there are still good people out there.” Andrew advised. “I’m trying my best. He’s just been hurt by so many people. Now, he’s not even thinking about getting a woman. It’s obvious he feels all women are the same. And he needs a woman in his life. Someone who will rule his empire with him.”“You’re right. But everything will happen at the right time. As time goes on, the universe will bring in someone who will make him forget the bad roles which women have played in his life.” Andrew assured, with a slight smile. ~ Later that evening, Charles decided to stand at his balcony, with a glass of wine in his hand. The rain was drizzling, but he didn’t mind it touching him as a lot was going through his mind. The breeze caressed his skin and blew through his white silk shirt as he looked at the streets up ahead. Then he gazed at the sky, filled with so many bright stars. “Mother, I hope you’re happy that I have avenged you and taken back all that’s yours and all that you deserve. Now, you can rest in peace.” He said, under his breath. Tomorrow was his mother’s memorial. He was supposed to go there with a joyful heart, but because of the recent events, his heart wasn’t as light as it was, when he finally was able to avenge her. But at least, he was much better than the past when his heart would feel so heavy when he thinks about her. “Well, it’s time to face just me, and I hope you’ll also guide me from wherever you are, mother.” He said to the air, and then he turned away, and went back to his bedroom to have a goodnight sleep.
