Revenge of the Rejected
Charles decided to check what those points he has acquired so far, can get him. He scrolled through the system, and checked summation of points acquired. YOUR POINTS ALL EQUAL TO 15. DO YOU WISH TO USE THEM? YES/NO Charles decided to take advantage of the yes, but only to see what skills he could acquire, but before he could click on the yes, he was interrupted by James who wanted to inform him that he was ready for the check-up they wanted to have on the Adams company which they had taken over, for a long time. “Alright, let’s go then.” Charles said as he dismissed trying to figure things out with his system. He rose to his feet and then headed out of his office with James. They both got into the car immediately they stepped out of the company, and Charles’ driver drove them off to the Adams former company. “It’s been a long while since we went there physically. Although, Vera was handling things with them and ensuring they’re being kept in check. But since Vera was trapped into the time machine, the company has been running without our supervision.” James said as he went through some of Vera’s reports. Unknown to Charles, as James had said that, an idea had come up in his head and he was very convinced about it. In fact, the thought kept his heart beaming with excitement and joy. “Well, let’s see how capable the people we employed there are, without Vera.” Charles said, then leaned against the back seat and closed his eyes to relax for a while. Soon, they got to the company, and as the employees set their eyes on Charles, they all began to greet and welcome him. Charles acknowledged their greetings, and asked for the manager to see him in his office. “Things seem to be okay.” James uttered, nodding his head in approval as he looked left and right at activities going on, both at the lobby, and the receptionist. “Let’s also hope things are going well on the inside.” Charles added, then stopped for the elevator to open up. When the elevator doors opened up, they both walked in and James pressed the last floor’s button. “So, how has Amelia been?” Charles asked as he leaned against the elevator walls. “Well, she’s fine. We’re good.” James responded. “I’m glad she stuck with you through the busy times and all. I remember when she would go and then come back. You were really broken, those times.” Charles chuckled as he brought up the past. “Yeah, I know right? It was really a tough time for me back then. But you also were part of my story. You encouraged me, allowed me to let out my emotions and even pardoned me on a break to make things right. I can’t forget that.” James said, expressing his gratitude. “I always wish the best for you, anyways. It’s nothing. Just try your best to keep the fire burning. She’s a gem; one you shouldn’t lose.” Charles advised James, and the elevator dinged. James smiled and nodded his head, then they walked out. “Speaking of a gem not to lose, when are you going to find your own gem, boss?” James asked, bringing up a matter no one has ever brought up to Charles. “It’s quite surprising that you brought up this matter. Well, I have no intentions of finding a gem, now. I can’t even see myself doing that in the next two years. So, you can take your mind off it.” Charles replied as they walked down the hallway, leading to his office. “Come on, boss. That can’t be. You’ve stayed years without a woman. You ought to have a woman who would relieve your stress after a big-time stressful work. Someone who would be able to calm you down when you’re annoyed.” James insisted as he walked side by side with Charles. Then Charles stopped right in front of the door to his office. “You know, Vera made it more difficult for me to trust a woman. Angela showed me how a woman can be driven by lust, and Vera has shown me how a woman can be gullible to an extent of endangering your life. All these are just warning signs from the heavens that women aren’t for me, at least, not now.” Charles responded, and silence reigned between he and James. James was speechless even until Charles opened the door and went into his office. He understood Charles’ point, but he knew that it was still the wrong way to judge women. Not all women are like that, and even the one meant for Charles would certainly not be like that. But he knew that for now, he had lost the notion or whatever it is he was trying to convince him of. Next time, he was going to try, and that time, he would have gotten more points which should be able to convince him. Not long after they had settled in the office, the manager came into the office with the reports in his hand. He already knew Charles was going to ask of it as that could be the only reason, he asked to see him. “Good afternoon, boss. Here are the reports, so far.” The manager presented the reports in a polite manner, and placed it on Charles’ table. “Thanks.” Charles appreciated him, and opened up the book to go through the reports which contained all that has been going on in the company. Charles was nodding his head in approval and when he was done going through it, he placed it back on his table, and looked up at the manager. “You have been doing a great job. Send your account details to Mr. James here, and I’ll credit you for the good work you’ve done so far.” “Wow. Thank you so much, boss. Thank you so much.” The manager kept appreciating him until he went out of the office. When James and Charles got outside of the company, they got back into the car. “You can be dismissed for the day. We’re done with all necessary things.” Charles said to him. “Alright, boss.” James was excited to do what he had in mind to do immediately he was dropped off at Charles’ home where he had left his car.
