Revenge of the Rejected
“How about you come over to my side, James? The same way Charles treated me is the same way he would treat you when you make a tiny mistake.” James shook his head. Yes, he missed Vera, but her acting like she was going to be a villain, he wasn’t in support of that in any way. So, he ignored her message, and drank the remnant of his wine, then went to bed. ~ The next day, Charles woke up feeling a bit better than usual. As he rose to his feet, about to prepare for work, a system notification came up. SPEND 100 MILLION DOLLARS IN FIVE HOURS Charles’ eyes widened in shock. This was really a short time given to him. It meant that he had to have completed the task before 12pm. The only thing that gave him hope was that it was during the day, so he could find a way at least. He quickly picked up his phone and put a call through to James. “Hey James. I’m just chipping this in. We have a lot of work to do. Have you reached out to Mr. Van?” “Uhm… Nope. But he is sure to resume work today. You can be rest assured.” James said, over the phone. “Alright then. Meet me at the office, 8am sharp.” Charles ordered, then they hung up. Charles dropped his phone on the bed, and then walked into his bathroom to wash up really quick. As soon as he was done with everything, he headed out to his car, and drove off. On getting to work, he was greeted by his employees, and they all seemed happy to see him. When he got to his office, James walked in not long after that. “Good morning boss.” James greeted him. “Good morning. Alright, let’s get started. First, I need you to get all the production workers to head to the conference room. We have some talking to do, and while we’re at that, I need you to get the registration papers for this company. I’ll like its name to be Charles Lincoln Foundation (CLF).” Charles informed him. “That sounds nice and great too.” “Yes.” Charles smiled. “And where is Mr. Van?” Charles asked, wondering why he had not showed up. “Uhm… I think I should message him. He could have gotten to the company, but not know where exactly to come over to.” James defended him, and put a call through to him instead. Charles waited patiently as the dial tone rang out until Mr. Van answered the call. “You’re at the company, right? Just head over to the CEO’s office.” James informed him, then hung up the call after hearing from Mr. Van. While they were waiting for Mr. Van, James thought critically if it was fine for him to show Charles, Vera’s message or not. He felt if he showed him Vera’s message, Charles may not take it the way he did. James, ignoring the text was evident of his loyalty to Charles, but if Charles saw the text, he could start having thoughts that James would yield to Vera’s desire in no time, and he wouldn’t know it. James who knows within himself that it’s not possible, then decided to keep it to himself rather than making it cause distrust between he and Charles. A knock came on the door and James asked the person to come in only to discover that it was Mr. Van. “Mr. Van. Welcome.” James welcomed him, and he shook James’ hand, then moved closer to Charles who also extended his hand for a handshake. “I’ve heard so much about you, Mr. Lincoln. It feels so good to finally work with you.” Mr. Van uttered, with a bright smile. “I feel the same way too. And I hope you’ll also live up to our expectations of you.” Charles uttered, with a smile. “Certainly, I will.” “Alright then. Let’s get to work.” Charles said, leaving James to put him through on whatever work he had to do on his first time at the company. James gathered the production crew in the conference room and Charles appeared, then took his seat. “Good morning, you all. I’m sure you’re all wondering why there is an unexpected meeting. Well, here is the reason. I want us to discuss about a new product which would shake the whole market, and even be the talk of the town, and world. They all exchanged looks. Even if it hadn’t been too long since they made something new, they felt it was high time since they made a new one.“So, what do you think we can make?” Charles questioned, looking at each face. Then the leader of the production crew cleared his throat. “We’ll need time to come up with something, but as you have said, it’s going to be something which would blow the world away. We just need time.” Charles looked at the time, and he discovered how time had been far spent that he had just 2 hours and a half, left. He sighed, and thought of what he could do to make all his plans not crumble for nothing. Suddenly, a thought came to his head and he thought it to be a perfect one. “Alright then. I’m going to make a deposit of 50 million dollars. So, whenever you come up with an idea, you’ll be able to make a prototype with that money and even if you need more as well, you can always come to me through my new secretary, Mr. Van.” Charles voiced out. “Alright, Mr. Van, you should introduce yourself.” Mr. Van rose to his feet and looked at them all with a smile on his face. “I’m Mr. Van Pelt. You can call me Van. I’m pleased to work with you all, and I assure you that you’ll also be pleased to work with me.” Mr. Van assured, and they all clapped. After the meeting, Charles transferred the money to the usual account they use for the production of technologies. CONGRATULATIONS, YOU HAVE SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED THE TASK AND HAVE ACQUIRED THREE POINTS.
