Revenge of the Rejected
James overheard the conversation that went on between Charles and Louis and he moved closer to Charles. “Could it be her man? You know, recently, she has been acting like she someone has come into her life.” James said. “Does that give him the right to act this way towards the man he presumes to be her boss?” Charles uttered, feeling outright disrespected. “I understand. Probably he’s just scared that something might have happened to her. You know, when the love is just blooming, they act so mad in love.” “None of what you’re saying is helping right now.” “I want you to track the caller, and track his moves, just so we know what he’s up to.” Charles instructed, feeling uneasy about the call. He felt uneasy because he truly couldn’t get in touch with vera, which meant he couldn’t produce her to her boyfriend. He also couldn’t explain where she went to, because if he explained that she’s on a trip, she ought to be reachable, and no CCTV or airline would record her leaving the city or country. So, he was currently at the losing end. “Why the hell did Vera go into the time machine? So unlike her.” Charles muttered under his breath. “Unless she tripped and fell into the time machine.” James chipped in. “You’re right. Vera isn’t someone that recklessly does things.” Charles attested to it as he nodded his head. Then he folded his arms and rested his chin on his knuckles, then walked up to James to monitor what he was doing. “How’s it going?” He asked, expecting that he ought to have gotten a hint of something. “Well, it seems like there’s a problem, boss.” “A problem? What problem?” Charles asked, squinting his eyes at the system. “He’s untraceable. Looks like he’s using a burner phone.” James reported. They both looked at each other, baffled on the reason the man would use a burner phone to call Charles.“Probably he’s a coward.” James said, trying to make Charles not worry too much over the unknown. “Even if he’s a coward, as he’s hiding, he can do a lot of terrible things. And I’m not certain he is Vera’s boyfriend. Vera would certainly have spent time to know a man well before jumping into a relationship with him, and she would have definitely found out this ugly attitude, so he’s probably someone else.” “I agree with you on that, boss. This is definitely someone else, and when we are able to get in touch with Vera, we’ll have to ask her who this is, because using a burner phone is highly suspicious.” Back to Vera and Andrew, Andrew’s eyes drifted from Claire to Vera. Claire was beginning to look scared and uneasy, while Vera was looking confused and there was distrust in her eyes. “Look. You need to be calm.” “Well, I am calm right now, so speak before I call the cops on you!” Vera threatened as she took a few steps backwards, although, still far away from the landline, but she and Claire were holding hands. “Alright, alright. I’m sure you’ve experienced some moments when you see a memory you feel is strange to you, and you probably heard the name, Vera. You are Vera. That’s the real you. You come from a world that is quite upgraded than this, and you are a successful woman whom no one can try to talk down on. You make your boss proud, and he really appreciates you for the hard work you put into your work. You got in here because you went into the time machine I invented. So, I’ve come to save you, just so you can get back to being yourself.” Andrew said, hoping that she was going to get back to her senses. “Are…are you certain he’s not trying to get into your head?” Claire asked, still looking at Andrew with distrust. “No. I think he’s right about some things. I have once gotten into something trance-like, and someone was calling me Vera, also appreciating me for a work I did.” “Exactly. It happened. You guys just completed a particular mission, successfully.” Andrew added, feeling hopeful that she was going to follow him. Then Vera turned to Claire. “I’m going to take this risk, Claire. I won’t know if it’s real until I find out. Nothing can be worse than being under Lord Daniel. And since you can’t go with me, I’m certain you’ll also get out of this dilemma, one day.” Vera assured Claire, and they both hugged. It seemed so emotional that Andrew felt his eyes was being stung, then he cleared his throat just to bring Vera back to the reality of things. “We don’t have much time, Vera.” He notified her, and she walked up to him.But not long after Vera came over to Andrew side, they heard an intimidating knock. They all exchanged glances as something in them told them that the knock wasn’t a favorable one. Claire then tiptoed to the door, and checked from the window to see who it was, and to her shock, it was Lord Daniel. Then she tiptoed back to Vera and Andrew. “It’s Lord Daniel and he has come with a few men.” She notified them. Vera became really scared, and her heart began to beat rapidly. “What do we do? He can’t find me in here. He’s going to rip me into pieces;” Vera uttered with tears dropping from her eyes. A loud knock came on the door again and they all knew that the Mafia Lord could break down the door if Claire didn’t respond. “There’s a back door. You just need to run as fast as you can without making a sound.” Claire said to them and led them to the back door. “But what about you? What if he senses you’re lying?” Vera asked as Claire gently opened the back door for them to use as an exit. “You don’t need to worry about her. The moment you’re out of this world, a reset will occur.” Andrew assured her.
