Revenge of the Rejected

Chapter 239

About three days had passed, and Mr. Adam and Mark had been given their jail term. Mr. Adam was sentenced to five years imprisonment; although, it ought to be more than that, but they pardoned him because he assisted the cops in the investigation. But Mark was given ten years imprisonment as that what was by the law and what he deserved. Vera had also been released since she had no criminal record, and she was the one who was tricked into giving out Charles’ bank information. The only person who had a say on what to do with her, was Charles. If Charles wanted her to be sued for giving out something as confidential as that, he could, and won’t be confronted for it. Charles was in the office, going over some documents when a knock came on his door. “Come in, please.” Charles urged, without looking up at the person coming in. But then, he decided to look up since the person who walked in had not said a word, and to his un-expectation, it was Vera. Both her hands were together, humbly, and she looked apologetic. “I’m sorry for letting you down. I thought about what I did, over and over, and told myself I would never let this happen again. I’ll become more engaged and serious with my work, and won’t talk about work to anyone who isn’t from work.” Vera assured him, with sober eyes. She was sad about what happened, and wanted to resume work with a better approach. She was ready to get back to the old Vera that everyone knew her to be. Charles then let out a sigh, and sat up. He played with the pen in his hand for a while before he finally looked into her eyes. “Anyone can make mistakes, Vera. But there are some mistakes you should pray not to make; some mistakes that even your mind would repeat a warning for you not to make because some mistakes have grave consequences.” “Please forgive me. I’ll accept any punishment you deem me fit.” Vera uttered, looking really apologetic. “I have forgiven you, Vera. But unfortunately, you lost my trust, and someone who has lost my trust can’t work for me. I’m sorry Vera, but you’re relieved of your duties.” Charles said to her, then he brought out his phone. But as he brought out his phone, Vera fell to her knees, with tears building up in her eyes. “Please don’t do this to me, Charles. You know how much I love this job, and how passionate I’ve been when it comes to working for you.” “Well, it turns out you’re not as passionate as you once were, for it. I just sent you enough money to build your own business which you can be more passionate about. Bye, Vera.” Charles said, and resumed his work. “Please I prefer to work with you than be given this money just to quit. Please Charles, don’t do this to me.” Vera pleaded again while still on her knees. “Vera, you of all people should know me better. Once I have set my mind to a thing, then I will do it. I have sent you enough money to start a new life, so you should know I’m serious about this.” “But…” “Look. If you’re worried about how it would look on your resume, or your history, especially if you want to collaborate with big men, you don’t need to worry because I’m not making it look like I fired you. I just simply relieved you of your duties forever. Become a boss. This is a golden opportunity.” Charles said to her, trying to make her see the benefits of what he has given her. “No Charles. It’s not about becoming my own boss, but I want to make it up to you. I really want you to give me a chance, just so you can see that I’m back to being efficient, and the vera you employed.” Vera pleaded again, desiring so bad to make it up to Charles. But Charles found it difficult to take her in as one of his most trusted workers. He was unaware when she was dating Mark who was under the disguise of Louis Frenchman. If he were to allow her into his company again, he didn’t know who else she was going to give out information to, in the name of love or close ties. “There is nothing you can do to change my mind, Vera. I have changed my passwords to all the things you have access to and your office has been cleared of all the important documents. Right now, there’s nothing that connects you and I, and my company again.” Charles informed her. This broke Vera’s heart. She regretted her actions, though, but she was pained that she wasn’t given a second chance, despite all the good she has done for him. While working with him, she had envisioned, many times of a luxurious lifestyle with Charles. She had envisioned being by his side, and being the most trusted woman in his life whom he would give so many rewards to. She had dreamt so many times of being recognized by the world as a very good and skilled person in her field. She just envisioned so many things that kept her going in life, and made her life more meaningful. But now that Charles was letting go of her, over a mistake she made, everything crumbled like a pyramid crumbling down after a good strike. It hurt her deeply that she couldn’t dream or hope of having such a life with him, anymore. She knew his worth, and that he was the best boss one could ever have. Most bosses could be selfish, not appreciative, uncaring and not passionate about their workers, but Charles was different. And now, all those was slipping out of her hand. But then, remembering all she had done, and the sacrifices she has made, anger began to rise in her heart. “I promise to be back, and you’ll regret you never gave me a second chance.” She threatened, with a glare.
