Revenge of the Rejected

Chapter 221

Vera continued to stare at Louis as her cab drove past him, and unable to leave him waiting there, she stopped the driver. “I'll get off here.” She said, and the driver stopped the car, after swerving off the road. Vera pushed open the door, paid the man, and began to walk back to the cafe. As she did, her heart thumped loudly in her chest. As she walked, she seemed to be fighting a battle inside of her head. 'You don't know him.’ A voice said. 'Are you willing to throw away your feelings all because he's a stranger? He's bared himself to you, he's willing to love you.’ Another arose. ‘Don’t forget that strangers are dangerous, Vera.' 'If Louis leaves, you'll be the one hurting twice as much because you could have been with him, you could have allowed yourself to find happiness. This is the first time anyone this serious has ever approached you, you're not going to throw it away. Do you have to torture yourself this way? You like him, then accept it.’ 'No. You don't just accept strangers after knowing them for like, a week.’ The first voice insisted, and Vera quickened her steps, and eventually began to run. She didn't want to care. She just liked being with Louis. He was fun, caring, ridiculously handsome, and he was all for her. She wasn't sharing him with some girl, or competing with someone else to get his love. He was all hers for the taking. Also, if she left him alone with two cups of coffee while knowing he was hoping she'd pass by, she'd feel really bad. She would never be able to get her mind off it. Besides, why couldn't she try dating him? If she saw he wasn't worth it, or he turned out to be a piece of trash, she could easily dump him, and… and what? Vera got to the cafe, and stood in front, breathing heavily. She wanted to catch her breath before walking in, so she could act like she had been walking home, and happened to walk in for a cup of latte. After being sure that she wasn't breathing noisily, or showing signs of restlessness, she walked into the cafe, and made for the counter. “Two glasses of iced latte please, and two sandwiches too.” She ordered, and pointed to Louis' table, before leaving. When she sat in front of him, he looked up, and stared at her like he couldn't believe his eyes.“Did you order it cold?” She asked, touching the cups of latte in front of him. “No, they were hot.” He replied, unable to hide his smile. “Why would you order two cups of Latte?” She asked, pushing the cups aside. “I… was thinking about you, and accidentally placed an order for the both of us. Then I waited; maybe you'd pass by, and I'd tell you not to bother ordering that I already ordered.” He explained, and she chuckled. “The girl you like always orders Iced Lattes, but you ordered it hot?” She asked, and he smiled. His black hair hung over those beautiful eyes of his, and Vera sighed. How was she to bring up the topic and let him know she wanted to try what dating him felt like? “Here's your order, ma'am.” A waitress said, dropping a tray of two iced lattes, and sandwiches. Vera took them out of the tray, and arranged it on the table in front of she and Louis, before paying for it. She should have done that at the counter, but Louis was the only one on her mind. “Thanks. You should have let me pay though.” “Why would I let you pay for my meal?” She asked, and he chuckled. “Doesn't it feel weirder when you're paying for my meal?” He asked, and she smiled. “Just eat.” She said, taking a bite of her sandwich. “I'm sorry about yesterday. You know… I think I said something about not bothering you for an answer, and waiting, but… you know, it's just… I feel like I'm running out of time. Like, if I don't explain how I really feel, and have you with me, then another man is going to come and steal you away right under my nose.” He said, and Vera smiled. “You haven't been able to steal me, but you think another man will?” “Well, that's why always happens when a man is too slow, isn't it?” “Honestly, you've watched a lot of dramas.” She said, looking at the ice floating amidst her milk froth. “Aren’t they always based on the things that happen in reality?” He asked, watching her, and she raised a brow. “Do I look like a random man will suddenly come and steal me away?” She asked, and raised her eyes to meet his. “You have all the time in the world. There's no hurry, no pressure right?” She asked, and he blinked repeatedly, like the idea of having all the time in the world didn't suit him. “Well, I only wanted to apologize. I didn't want you to feel awkward around me. Also, I felt like my time was wasting because I was here for business in the first place, and will soon be returning.” He told her, and she stopped chewing. She had totally forgotten about that. He wasn't living in L. A, he had come for business. Vera didn't know how that made her feel. It threw her into another debate in her head. If he was leaving, would it be a great idea to date him? Should she just close her eyes to her feelings for him, and let him leave? Or should she date him, then leave him when he was leaving. “I can stay, but that's only if I'm sure you'll always be here with me… by my side. If not, I wouldn't want to bother you, and make you have to see my face everyday.” He said, and Vera swallowed. He was indirectly telling her she could make a choice. Did she want him to stay, or leave?
