Revenge of the Rejected

Chapter 222

Charles never knew that he would feel so happy to see the old system notification back. There were days when he thought hard, and racked his brain to think of where or on who he could spend the money. In fact, it had once gotten to a stage when he felt frustrated and tired of the whole tasks, but right now, he felt like the happiest man on earth, happy to do any task which the system wanted him to perform. “So, I guess you have 24 hours to perform this task.” Andrew said, looking at him with a smile. He knew how happy Charles was, so it was more like he had contacted that joy, and was ready to do more things which would make him happy. “That reminds me. What could happen if I fail any of the tasks given to me?” Charles asked, finally glad that he had someone who could give him an answer to this question which had been on his mind. “Oh, that’s true! Well, if you fail tasks, you will face a penalty. A hundred million dollars or even a billion could disappear from your account, or you might lose connection with one of your most important clients. The system would find a way to make you be at a disadvantage, so I adhere to you always ensure you are able to do what is expected of you by the system. Now that the system has been degraded to the normal one, it’s much better. You can be rest assured that there’s nothing to be scared of.” Andrew said as he patted Charles on his back. ~ Later that day, Charles left, and was on his way home, but night fell, way before he got home. He thought about the people who had injected him with a serum he knew nothing of, and hoped that they would show up again. He also hoped that they wouldn’t show up when he was least expecting it. Charles got home thankfully, around 8pm, but was feeling really exhausted, so he just went upstairs to his bedroom, and laid down on his bed. Then he picked up his phone, and texted both Vera and James. “Morning meeting by 9am tomorrow.” Then he closed his eyes shut, with his body weakened, and ready for sleep to take over. The next day, Charles woke up from his bed early, but in an elated mood. He was glad that he had gotten the old system back, and was ready to kick into action. As he got down from his bed, he walked down the stairs and then Martha greeted him with a smile on his face.“Good morning sir.” “Morning, Martha.” Charles responded, and then he walked to the dining room, expecting her to bring him something he could take in the morning. Martha went ahead to the kitchen to prepare a hot coffee, and toast and as soon as she was done, she walked over to him to serve it. “Thanks Martha.” “it’s my pleasure sir. But I have something I’ll like to speak to you about sir.” Martha spoke. “And what’s that?” Charles asked as he took a bit of the toast. “You were not around for a few days, and I was kind of worried. I don’t know if there’s a way you can communicate to me if you won’t be around for days whenever the need arises. That’s if it doesn’t sound disrespectful.” Martha spoke out, hoping she had not said the wrong thing. Charles took in a deep breath, and then nodded his head, understanding what she was trying to say. “Well, I’m sorry if I got you worried. You know what? We have a landline, so I’ll reach you through it anytime I have a change of plans. Also, if I don’t, just know I’m fine.” Charles assured her. He had intentionally made the last statement because he didn’t want her to get worried whenever he’s not able to contact her through the landline; especially if he was caught by his enemies or something. “Alright, sir. Please take care of yourself.” She said, with a smile, and left. I smiled as well, glad that she was at least, a good caretaker. Not just someone who would see my not being around as an avenue to be free in my house, and do anything he or she pleases while I’m gone. About an hour later, Vera and James had gotten to Charles’ house, and they were all seated in the living room. “So, I need to make an investment on something with 1 million dollars. Out of so many places that could benefit from this money, where do you think I should direct this money to?” Charles asked, and both Vera and James exchanged glances. Vera was the first to break contact, so she stared back at Charles with confidence. “I think you should invest the one million dollars on our new tech company. It’s very important. More and more requests of the amazing tech products we made are coming in, and we need more tools, equipment and all to get things done smoothly.” Vera spoke, with a slight smile. She seemed happy about the idea, and Charles nodded his head at the idea. He acknowledged It, and wondered why that didn’t come to his head in the first place. “That’s great! That’s what I’m going to do.” Charles said, then rose to his feet immediately, which also caused both Vera and James to rise up as well, ready to go wherever he wanted them to go. “Alright, let’s go over to the company to make some necessary things happen.” Charles uttered, with a happy smile. They walked out of the house, and then got into his car which their driver was so happy to drive. He had been out of work for days, and was beginning to get worried that Charles could have fired him without speaking about it to him. But the happiest of all was Charles, he felt that from now on, he could conquer the world as long as he had a good system.
