Revenge of the Rejected
Charles opened his eyes slowly, and met himself in his car, but he couldn’t move. His eyes were still all fuzzy and unclear, and it was an uncomfortable situation for him to be in. The style and method those men used against him was what was confusing him because he didn’t understand why a group of people would want him, but would leave him without abducting him or whatever. But he was wondering what he had been injected for. His eyes searched through his car to know if something had gone missing, but with what he could lay his eyes on, he didn’t find anything amiss. “Sh…shit.” He cursed under his breath, although, he found it hard to mutter out those words. What got him more frustrated was the fact that he had to meet with the tech expert, and now, he was way beyond late. To the tech expert, it would seem as if he wasn’t serious about it, or like he was being nonchalant. Not long after he thought about the tech expert, a text popped up on his phone. Thankfully, his phone wasn’t too far from where he could see it, so he was able to see the text. But the text only made him feel sadder. “I waited for you for hours, yet you didn’t show up, neither did you send a text to let me know how things are going. Are you certain that you’re serious about seeing me?” Tears could have almost dropped down his eyes, seeing as he couldn’t attend to the message, and the tech expert would have been misunderstanding him. Charles tried his best to reach out his hand to his phone, but it was more like an impossible task for him to do, so he just gave up. He closed his eyes shut, and took a deep breath to calm down. What he had been injected with was going to wear off, so he assured himself with that. ~ The next time Charles woke up, it was still dark around, but this time, he was able to move his body better than the last time. The first thing that was on his mind was to get his phone. “Shit! Midnight already.” He muttered under his breath. He checked through his call logs, and discovered he had missed several calls. But what was more important was to get through to the tech expert.Instead, he sat up, and took hold of the steering, then began to drive off to the tech expert’s home address. While driving, a text popped up on his phone, and he glanced at it to read “Having fun feeling weak? Well, that’s just the tip of the iceberg. I’m going to crush you from within until you’re nobody, and become helpless that even those who you’ve helped won’t feel moved to help you.” It was definitely a threatening message, and adding to one of Charles’ concerns, but he hoped that soon, he would get to the root of this. He drove off to the address, and when he got there, he managed to get out of his car, and knocked on the door with the little strength left in him. After knocking for a while, he finally heard the sound of footsteps coming close to the door. “Who’s at my door at this late hour?” The man spoke, sounding alert. “It's me, Charles. Please open up.” Charles pleaded, hoping he was going to disregard the fact that he had given him a bad impression the first time. “Charles?” The tech expert repeated, sounding baffled. Then the door clicked open, and Charles fell to the ground immediately, still feeling a bit weak. “Oh, my goodness. What’s wrong, Charles?” He asked, looking concerned as he tried to help him up. “I got…” Charles tried to speak out, but he had used up the little strength he had gained, so he just lied helplessly in his arms. He brought Charles to the living room, and laid him on the sofa, then opened up his shirt and tried to find out the problem. But it was seeming difficult for him to find out what the problem was. He needed to wait until Charles woke up, and before that could happen, he would have to take some steps first. Towards morning, Charles woke up, and he was feeling much better than last night. The first person he set his eyes on was the tech expert, so immediately he saw him, he sat up. “I… I feel much better. You gave me an antidote?” “Yeah. I figured out you were injected with something that made you paralyzed, and all. I noticed the symptoms, and got the antidote. How do you feel now?” He asked, out of concern. “Yes, I feel much better, and I’m so grateful for that.” Charles responded, with so much joy in his heart. He was glad that the tech expert was at least kind, and helpful. “Seems to me like you have enemies. Whoever did that to you must be really interested in ruining you. I hope no one followed you here?” The tech expert asked, hoping things wouldn’t get more complicated. “I’m sure no one did. Those who did this to me have long gone. But I got a text from them, threatening me that they are going to do more.” “I guess as a famous business man, you’re already used to things like this. And you should have a way of ensuring you’re not being taken down often. It’s going to affect you and those around you.” “I understand, and I’m really trying. The day you sent me a text revealing who you are, I felt happy and relieved that someone knows a big part of my secret, and has a solution to the little problems it has been causing me.” “Well, I’m willing to help. By the way, forgive my manners. I’m Andrew by name, and I’ve known you since you were young. In fact, I was a close associate of your mother.” He said, and the air between them went tense. Of all Charles was curious about, he never thought that there would be a conversation about his mother. Charles adjusted himself on his seat, and focused more on Andrew who held a poker face, although not stern. “You know my mother? How… how?” Charles asked, with his curiosity piqued. “Well, as I said I was a close associate of your mother. We worked hand in hand. Your mother was a creative woman who we could also refer to as a Jack of all trades. But then, before she died, she had this hunch that life was really going to be tough for you…” Andrew paused, and let out a sigh. Charles’ ears were at alert, and there was nothing that could distract him from listening in this situation. Any conversation about his mother always got him so interested and focused. The man who knew about his mother, his lawyer, Mr. Thompson wasn't able to say things about his mother as he wanted. So, this was more like another chance for him and he made sure that nothing would rid him of this chance to know all he wanted to know about his mother. “So…” Charles uttered, becoming impatient. “She asked me to create a system; one that can be very useful for you while she's gone. We had to perform surgery for you to plant that system in your head.”Charles was shocked. He had never for once thought that the existence of this system could be linked to his mother and he didn't know how to take it. “So, how come there are no signs that I had surgery? How was it even possible? I could have died.” Charles almost broke out in tears. “Your mother had very professional people working with her before she became the poor woman you knew. She worked with the very best. So, trust me, the surgeon who performed this work on you really did a good job.” Charles was dumbfounded. He didn't know what to say, neither did he know what reaction was best for him in this situation. “I… I'm…” “It's okay if you can't process this all at once. Not so many people can take in what you have just heard. In fact, I could have continued to live on without revealing anything to you, and checking up on you once in while like I always do, but when I noticed on my monitoring system that you're having some troubles with the new upgrade, I decided to come out to you.” Andrew said, further. “S..so, you've been on my tail for a long time?” “Yeah, if that's what you'll see it as. I had to ensure you were doing fine.” Charles sniffled, fighting back the overwhelming tears. He was overwhelmed by the love his mom had for him, but he was still finding it difficult to get in touch with his emotions. He didn't know how to react to it because despite that the system had been very beneficial to him, it could also be harmful to him; a risk. “But I'm here to also tell you that I will help you in whatever you need to fight against your enemies. I will join your league.”
