Revenge of the Rejected

Chapter 215

As he raised his voice, it caused everyone to pay attention to him, and as they did that, someone who was in their midst, ran off, and part of the security team went after him at once. Charles was already beginning to get baffled and confused. He could have gotten frustrated if not for the fact that he had come across something that made him happy, earlier. He folded his arms, and watched them silently as they comported themselves. ~ Charles was in his office with Vera, and two of the security guards were before Charles. “We don’t know how he sneaked in, but we happened to find him doing something in your office, and that’s when we caught him.” One of them explained, then one out of the security guards who went after the man, came back into Charles’ office. “Were you able to get him?” Charles asked, curious about who the man must have been. “We weren’t able to get him. He ran swiftly, so we didn’t know where exactly he ran off to.” Charles grumbled, and then looked towards his safe, but it was fine, and there was no sign that someone was trying to break in. Then he looked back at the security team who were already feeling bad for not doing their job as they ought to. “You can leave.” “We apologize, sir.” They uttered, hoping he wasn’t to angry to an extent of firing them right away. Charles didn’t bother to respond because he didn’t know how to take the matter, so they left before the matter got worse which was attracting them being fired.“So, who do you think could have tried that with you? If your safe looks untouched, and other things were as you left it?” Vera spoke, trying to understand the situation. “I’m as confused as you are. Please tell the security team to check out the CCTVs and if the man has tampered with all, just let it go.” “Let it go?” Vera exclaimed, out of surprise. “Yes. Whoever it is, would definitely come back, or show himself.” Charles spoke, with certainty. Vera nodded her head, then walked out of Charles’s office. “When do you need me to come?” Charles sent a text to the tech expert, understanding that there might be a definite time which he wants him to come, in case he wouldn’t be around. Not long after he sent the text, he got a response from the tech expert like he had been waiting for him to ask the question. “You can come over by 5pm in the evening.” Charles smiled, and then dropped his phone. He didn’t mind getting off work earlier than usual. All that was on his mind was getting his questions answered. He picked up some of the documents he was meant to work on, and began to sign some off, and correct a few things which he was meant to. When it was around 4pm, Charles rose to his feet, and stretched his body. Then he yawned, ready to set off on his journey. Vera happened to walk in at that time as she wanted to submit some papers. “Are you done for work today?” She asked, noticing he was putting things in order. “Yes. I have something to do off work. Good work today.” Charles said to her, then picked up his brief case. Vera walked him out to the lobby, and then she turned back when he urged her it was fine for her to go back. He also told his driver to take the rest of the day off.As he got into his car, he placed his brief case right beside him, and checked his phone for the address again. After ensuring that he had gotten the address, and placed it on Google Map to get the direction. ~ Charles had been driving for about thirty minutes, and the distance still seemed far, which was making him almost doubt the Google Map. “Why’s this place seeming so far?” Charles muttered under his breath. But as he muttered out the question to himself, it came to his realization that the tech expert might actually do that because he had to live far from some enemies. Truly, living in this busiest part of the city could attract a lot of enemies to anyone; just like the man who sneaked into his office which was the least of Charles’ concern compared to seeing the tech expert. The sky was becoming dark gray which was obvious that in a few minutes, it was going to become dark. On his map, it showed that he was thirty minutes away from his destination, and while that still sounded far, he was kind of relieved that he was almost there. As he drove down a particular alley, he noticed how dark it was; if not for his head lamp that helped him to pass through the dark alley. Suddenly, his car halted, and the car engine spurted, giving him signs that it wouldn’t start. Charles tried the engine again, but it was still the same thing. “Shit! I’m hours late.” He cursed out loud as he got down from the car. His mind was still a bit at rest because he had the home address to himself so all he just had to do was to get there. At least, the tech expert was also human, and shouldn’t be so heartless enough to throw him out at a late hour.He went to check the fuel tank, but he still had enough fuel, and then also checked the radiator and anything else that could give a problem, but everything looked fine. ‘What the hell is going on?” he complained, under his breath, beginning to feel the frustration that he couldn’t get at work when chaos was setting out. Then he heard the sound of tires screeching and had to glance towards that side. There were two cars driving towards the alley. He waved his hands, hoping that they would help him, but he only drove past him. “Ouch!” He winced out in pain as he felt something sharp pierce his neck, and then his eyes began to fuzz and roll around, followed by his ability to breathe, weakening.
