Revenge of the Rejected
Although, Charles had gotten a text from the stranger, saying he would find a way to degrade the system, he hadn't heard from the man for quite some time now, and that was quite worrisome. While he was in the car with Vera, he noticed she was looking brighter than usual. She wasn't looking the usual stern way she always looked. And this had been going on for days now. He didn't want to delve too much in her affairs, but considering the fact that he needed to take his mind off his issues, he decided to bring Vera's attention to her new change as a distraction for meantime. “So, what has happened recently. You seem much different than expected though. You know, what you went through at that inn, and how you've quickly gotten over it with a completely different aura.” Charles spoke, trying to get her to talk about it. Vera cleared her throat, and her eyelids fluttered. “I just decided to see life in a different perspective. I decided to loosen up after that horrible experience I had, and so far, it has made me feel better.” Vera uttered, hoping that answer was the perfect one to end all questions that could come up, regarding it. Vera was getting a bit tired of hearing the little discovery which Charles and James were noticing about as she was used to her private and undiscussed life. But her suddenly changing was bringing in questions that were somewhat disturbing. And she hoped she wouldn't have to entertain such questions again because if she kept ignoring it, it would only attract suspicion which was obviously what she didn't want. Charles nodded his head, seeing the sense in what she had just said. He was kind of happy for her and hoped her brightness would continue this way for a longer period of time. Just as soon as the driver pulled out in front of the company, Charles' phone beeped, and vibrated, causing him to check what message he had gotten. Actually, ever since the tech expert scenario came up, he has been conscious about any beep sound his phone makes. As he opened the text, his eyes widened in shock and excitement as his eyes feasted on the wonderful message he had wished for, deeply. “it is with joy that I inform you that we'll be able to meet, rather than I just having to correct the system upgrade. Following this text, would be the address where I want us to meet.” Charles could almost jump out of excitement, and even dance around as his heart was filled with joy and happiness. Vera who noticed that he had halted and had not entered into the company with her, walked back to him, and noticed the change in his mood. His face had brightened up, and he seemed elated. This made her curiosity heighten as she was really interested in what he had seen or heard that made his mood drastically change. “Did any good news come up?” Vera asked, with a smile on her face. Charles glanced at her, and dipped his phone into his pocket. “Well, nothing much. I just felt elated, and pleased with the gradual progress of this company. So far, I have never regretted my decision in creating my own company. And I'm so happy that you've been doing your work the way you ought to.” Charles complimented her with a smile on his face. Since Vera didn't know anything about the system in the first place, he didn't need to tell her anything about the message he got from the tech expert. So, the best thing was to make up some other believable reason for his sudden change of mood. Vera smiled, taking the compliment and even feeling more encouraged to make the company a better place. It was more like his compliment had added to her joyful day, positively as she was already glad that things were going nice in her life currently. Charles was glad that she had believed him at least, because he couldn't afford to make her suspect that there were some other things going on behind the scenes which she hadn't known of for a long time. Such things as the system in his head wasn't something that was meant to be revealed to anyone. A situation could come up where her life or James' life could be endangered just to get the secret of the system or the kind of things the system does for me. That would only cause more chaos than the usual ones that happen just because Charles was capable, famous and influential. “Alright, let's go in.” He urged her, just so they could skip to the next thing on ground while he waited for the next text message from the tech expert. They both walked into the company, and at the reception, they greeted Charles with respect, and some of the staffs who were going about their daily tasks also greeted Charles happily as they passed by. As Charles and Vera walked into the elevator and Vera pressed down the last floor button, another text came up on Charles’ phone. “33, Venison Street, Thompson Ave.” Charles was overwhelmed with joy. He couldn't believe that he was truly going to be able to meet with the tech expert. “Ensure that no one knows you're coming over here. Neither should anyone see this text as I want this address and our meeting as well to be discreet.” Another text came up, and Charles was more than happy and willing to work things out that way. To him, meeting the tech expert was more important than blowing it off or handling it carelessly. As they got to the office floor, they noticed people gathered around his office, including his security team. “What's going on here?” Vera muttered out, out of curiosity. Charles was also baffled, wondering what was going on around his office. “What the hell is going on here!” Charles raised his voice, uncomfortable with the scenario.
