Revenge of the Rejected
Charles was so shocked and fear gripped him. It was the fear losing James after everything he had gone through just to ensure that he would live through it. “Hurry! Lead me to where he is, currently!” Charles urged. Without wasting time, Vera quickly headed to a particular secluded room used for props and all. There was no one there, so it was an advantage to them in this situation. Charles ran with all his might, and sweat trickled down to his shirt, forming a wet map on his chest and his back. He was disoriented and his brain couldn't think of anything apart from James' current situation. As he got to the room, there were only ten seconds left and it seemed like it was counting slower than usual. Before he could dial Longman's contact, a message came in. “I warned you not to mess with me, didn't I? You breached the damn contract and you think you can get away with it. Hell no! Note this: it won't stop at just James.” Charles yelled out loud in annoyance. There were different people who had gotten him angry due to their wickedness, but this one was on a different level. Eight…. Seven… Six… Then he suddenly remembered that he and the system had a deal. Although, he wasn't so certain about the success of saving James, but he wanted to try his best until the last minute. “Give me a time alone with James.” Charles said to Vera. Vera looked confused and wondered if Charles had it in mind to kill James before going through the pain of being bombed. Aside that, it was going to affect Charles as well. “What do you plan on doing, Charles? I can't leave you both here.” Five… Four… “Do you have a solution to this!” Charles raised his voice as his brows arched up, expressing his frustration. Vera's eyes teared up instantly, and it somehow broke Charles’ heart, but at the same time, it got him frustrated. “Vera, leave now!” Charles yelled at her.Vera was startled and her body shook like she was shaken back to her senses. She cleaned the single tear that rolled down to her cheek, and then dashed out of the room, then shut the door behind her. Charles then paced around until he finally calmed himself down and allowed his thoughts to sink. It was obvious that Longman was putting them on edge, making them feel scared as he slowed down the timing of the bomb. “System, how are you going to help out, right now?” He asked, desperately. CONGRATULATIONS, YOU HAVE COMPLETED YOUR TASKS SUCCESSFULLY. Charles calmed down a bit, expecting to see a series of options that were solutions to his current problem, but there was silence. The system wasn’t saying a word, neither was there any whirring sound to signal that the system could be processing something. Then the countdown got to One, and it started blinking. This got Charles even more restless. “Please go. Tell Amelia I love her. You have to go. We can’t die together. There’s still a lot you’ve got to achieve.” James spoke out, although feeling terrified. He was about to be blown up, and anyone in such situation would only feel nothing but fear. “No! I can’t leave you! There has to be a solution!” Charles yelled out in frustration. Not long after that, the number one stopped blinking, neither was there any beeping sound anymore. Charles moved closer to James, looking baffled. He wondered if it meant the bomb could blow up anytime soon or sort. “It seems the bomb has been disconnected, boss. Did…did Longman change his mind, or he wants to strike another deal, using our fear?” James asked, out of curiosity. Charles was still a bit dumbfounded because he wondered if the system had actually played him. If it was really Longman who called it off, then was the system becoming unreliable? Then Charles’ phone began to ring, and he checked it to see who was trying to get to him, and then he discovered it was a call from Longman. Charles bit his lips in anger and frustration, with his face hardened such that if any kid saw him at that moment, they would be scared, and possibly flee from him. “What do you want from me, this time?” Charles spoke, in between his teeth. “How the hell did you do it, Charles! Don’t play dumb with me. How the hell did you disconnect such a complicated wiring!” Longman yelled out of anger, over the phone. This got Charles curious, and wondering what really went on. From what he deduced, it meant Longman wasn’t the one who disconnected the bomb. “Then it must have been the system.” Charles muttered under his breath. Charles smirked, and his mood brightened up instantly as he chuckled. “I hope you know the gravity of what you did, Longman? You tried to step on me. Now, watch how I’m going to trample on you, and make you regret ever trying to cross my lane.” “You can’t do nothing, Charles! This isn’t where it’s going to end. Take my words for it!” Longman yelled, wishing he could break the phone, and make it affect Charles on the other end. “Bring it on, Longman. If you really love yourself, the best advise I’ll give to you which you ought to take, is to run, run really far from where I wouldn’t be able to reach you, or you’ll bear the consequences of your actions with no mercy.” Charles threatened, and hung up. He had given Longman the opportunity to leave, and he wished deep inside of him that his ego wouldn’t allow him to flee, just so he could unleash his wrath on him. Then Charles touched James’ arm. “The bomb is still there. It means we’ll have to cut it out. We can use an anesthetic when we get home, just so you can be at ease as we do the work.” “Alright, noted. But then, with what I overheard, are you saying Longman wasn’t the one who disconnected it? Or was there a fault with it?” James asked, inquisitively. “You’re focusing on the wrong thing, James. We should be more concerned about how to get this thing out of you. Come on, let’s leave before things get too suspicious.” Charles urged as he opened the door. It wasn’t only James who was curious about what really happened. Charles was also curious. It made him to wonder if there was a connection between the other time when the bugs all went faulty, and now. “I’m beginning to get confused.” He thought to himself.
