Revenge of the Rejected
Charles and Vera were a little stupefied, but a second later, someone began to clap in awe, another joined, then another, and in seconds, the applause were louder than any applause Charles had ever heard. Screams from the audience mixed with their applause, and Charles, and Longman were all smiles. The sleeping employee was awoken, and he looked embarrassed, which made the audience laugh. They could not believe how meticulous Pax was. The applause lasted long after Charles, Longman and Vera stepped down, and Longman patted Charles on the back happily. Then Charles excused himself, and went down to the receptionist, and after giving her a smile, he registered again, with the sole name of his company, without Longman. "Please kindly send the update to them. You can do that, can't you?" He asked, with a smile, and she nodded. Charles walked away, and went back to the hall, sitting. More companies presented their products, and Charles heart skyrocketed in anxiety, as it neared the end. Vera tool his hand, and squeezed, seeing through the confidence he had put on, and he smiled widely. "Thanks." He replied, and they watched Longman receiving early congratulations from other businessmen, who sat close to him. Vera couldn't help but smile. "Stop smiling. We can get a twist, and see that Pax wins the day." He said, and Vera laughed. "From what I've seen. Pax can't." Vera replied. Shortly, Charles was called, and Longman looked confused. He, Vera and James went up this time around, and after Charles introduced himself with his company name separate from Longman's, the audience settled back in their seats, expecting another mind-blowing tech. Vera brought in three more robots. Pink, White, and Black. The robot had a large screen, on something that was shaped like a human head, and there were beautiful designs on its body. Looking at it alone was a pleasure to the sight. And this time, Vera spoke. "Hello My beautiful ladies, handsome gentleman, charming judges," She began in a soft voice, and it seemed like the audience immediately took a liking to her. "This is an invention that appeals to every gender. Male, and Female… It appeals to every age, Old, and young. It appeals to the whole, and deformed, the sane and insane, and can be used for various purposes. It is called 'Teacher'." She said, and everyone seemed interested. Vera continued, "Teacher here, can be renamed however you want, and is available in all colors that appeal to you. Teacher deals with psychology mainly, and watches closely to detect your movements and your state of mind." She said, and a video was played. It was Teacher in a psychiatric hospital. A patient was brought to be tested, and after analyzing her actions, the way she spoke, and her reactions to things around, he detected her problem. "Woah!" The audience went. The judges dropped their pens, and watched. There was another video of Teacher elongating, and acting as a cane to the blind. It described everything upon request. "Teacher, what is in front of me?" A blind girl asked. "Two nurses dressed in pink, you're to move to the side." Teacher replied. When they got to a crowded section, Teacher said in an increased volume. "Sadie coming. Part, part, Sadie coming." The audience began to clap… There was Teacher explaining Math to a child, Teacher reading out cook recipes, Teacher reading out the news for an old woman. And for the final, there was Teacher giving advice. Vera asked, "Teacher, I'm going on a date, with a man who's Zodiac sign is Sagittarius. What should I wear? I'm clueless." She said, and immediately, Teacher brought out images of Vera in different bright outfits. "Here, I have inputed my clothes, and clothes I love into Teacher's memory. He is giving me advice." The audience clapped. James also asked for ideas on what to teach young doctors, and they were surprised when Teacher began to type, and printed out a broad sheet of paper for James, who read it out, stunning the audience. Teacher gave romantic advice, career advice, inspirational advice, and all kinds of advice, and taught different things. Teacher was indeed a teacher, and even before Vera concluded her speech, the applause and screams were deafening. Everyone wanted Teacher. Indeed, Teacher was useful for every age, and every class. Judging from the length of the applause, Charles could predict what was about happen. It was so hard for the judges to call order into hall. Voices overlapping, applause ringing, screams increasing. "There it goes." James said happily. One look at Longman, and Vera burst into laughter— laughter that James, and Charles tried to cover up. Vera couldn't stop laughing, and even when they thought she had stopped, she burst into another bout of laughter. Longman stared at them menacingly like they betrayed him, and they could see in his eyes that he planned to get back at them. All the competitors were all called to the stage, and from the last, they began calling out names. It continued until Longman, and Charles were left. Pax, and Teacher were up against each other. The whole hall was thrown into silence, and Charles tried to keep his confident smile. He looked towards the competitor seat, hoping to spot Vera and Charles, but they were nowhere to be found. "LincTech!" The host screamed, and the screams that rose were ear-splitting. Charles burst into relived laughter, and couldn't help pouring out his joy. He shook hands with Longman, who smiled—definitely pretentious, and shook hands with the host, then the judges who received him happily. He was given a medal, and pictures flashed his way. Almost every businessman wanted to take pictures with him, and when it was time for his speech, he was honest. "If I say I had a speech prepared, I would be lying, and even if I did, I don't think I'd recall. Because in this moment, I'm too happy to think. This? I don't deserve it alone. My awesome employees deserve it all. They worked tirelessly to improve Teacher despite the time we had to squeeze out. They were the ones, who made this possible for LincTech to win this medal. Also, I'd love to appreciate my personal assistants, who accompanied me in everything, kept on giving me strength, and pushed me further. I owe it to them also. These ideas, they gave it to me, and overcame a lot of things for me. And of course, I thank you all for rooting with me. I promise LincTech will not let you down, but will produce more and more beautiful products that will make life easier. Thank you." Once more, ear-splitting applause and speech rang out, and Charles was overjoyed. More pictures, and more formalities occurred until Charles went down the stage. Vera was there, waiting and looking troubled. "James." She said, and walked away. Charles followed her immediately, away from all the screams and applause, all the way to the restroom where James were sweating. He showed Charles his arm, and to his dismay, he saw number counting down on James' arm. Nineteen… Eighteen…. "It's been counting down from a hundred." Vera said, looking like she could cry. Sixteen… fifteen… fourteen…
