SCARLET’S POV She does have some guts in her. Now she wants to negotiate with an authority higher than me. She must be going insane as I don’t think that there is any authority above mine on earth. Anyways, I don’t think killing her outrightly would be the best in this situation. Come to think of it, she has committed a lot of atrocities against my land and my people and thus should be made to atone for every one of her acts before dying. Nevertheless, I don’t mind forgiving her for all the wrongs that she had done against me and my land, and even for what she did to the Chamlee on the battlefield. Even if I should forgive all this, there is a wrong that I would never forgive and it is the one committed against Dawn. For that, she must pay with her life. While I was still trying to grasp her request and the reason behind it lord Nathan confronted the witch in anger. “You keep quiet. You are going to die, not make endless requests” I stopped lord Nathan from going on. I understand his annoyance, and I know exactly where he is coming from. But then now is not a time for emotions and I need to get to the root of this. First of all, I would like to find out who the witch think is higher than me, and who could dare to stop me from taking vengeance on her. “Who?” I asked. She giggled for what seemed like forever, and with a sinister grin, she replied. “Call your protector, Scar, I want to have a word with her” “My pro... tector” I stuttered. Do I even have a protector, what the heck is she blabbing about? “Yes... Scar. She will come when you request for her, she alone would understand all of this” she giggled. I was even more confused now. She looks so serious and doesn’t appear to be joking in any way. “But... but... there is no... protector” I stammered. I hate to be in this position. If it turns out that she is only trying to buy time with this, she would not like what I would do to her. “There is one... darling” she laughed menacingly. Now I had to allow my anger to show as I can see that being lenient with her is not making any headway. “You are only buying time, and this is your delay tactics. I assure you that I would ensure to give you a miserable death” I threatened. “There is a person, and you know her” Mildrid persisted not minding my warning. She still insists that there is someone and it makes me marvel. I am the great Chamlar, and there is none against me. “My queen,” the Chamlee walked up to me. I turned to the Chamlee and asked him. “What?” I have already run out of patience, and it could be seen in the way I reacted. He replied. “My lady, I think she is referring to Nana, our great custodian” At the mention of Nana the witch laughed aloud and the echo of her laughter continued for a few more seconds after she had stopped laughing. “But no...” I tried to reply to the Chamlee but was rudely interrupted by the witch. “Call her now, send for her” she demanded. “But I can't... not because you ask me to” I refused to honour her request. There is no place for Nana in this as I can deal with her myself. “Just say the name, Scar” she ordered. “Now it is over for you” I yelled and was going to stretch out my hands in her direction when she yelled. “Call her for me...” I stopped, my eyes exhuming fire. “I said I won't call Nana” I retorted. As soon as her name left my lips, the atmosphere changed and the witch started to laugh none stop. A gentle breeze blew and everywhere was too bright and we had to try to cover our eyes with our hands. I have never seen something like this before. And soon tiny footsteps were heard and it was accompanied by the sound of a stick tapping on the floor. The gentle breeze soon subsided and so did the brightness. And just when I least expected it, Nana’s voice was heard. “I heard someone call out for me, Scar” “Nana” I exclaimed. From behind me came the voices of the three alphas. “You...” ALPHA RAY’S POV“I said I won't call Nana” These words were barely out of the queen's lips when everywhere suddenly changed. It was like nothing that we have seen before. A wind so gentle blew across the whole place and everywhere became completely bright, and it was almost blinding the eyes. When all this died down, we were able to open our eyes again, and standing there before us was the old woman from over two decades ago. “You...” I and the other two alphas exclaimed. She was there with a stick in hand and her back bent forward, just like when we first met her in the woods so many years back. She still looked exactly the same way, like a helpless old lady that would die in the next minute. Back then when we met her she sorted our help but none of us would oblige her which led to her laying a curse on us. All these years, we had always thought of going back to her and rendering an apology but we don’t know where she resides, and we doubt if she had made it to the next day. But here she is right before us after so many years. What is she doing here, and what is her role in all of this? Is she the authority the witch referred to, is she the custodian the Chamlee spoke of or is she here to finally finish what she started with us? I remember she told us that what had been handed down to us would be taken away and now it is so. So is she finally here to take our lives also? We are sorry for our attitude to her years back. We were only teenagers and we didn’t know better. I hope she finds it in her to forgive us and at least spare our lives. “I am here now, my queen,” the old lady said. “Can't believe that it has been ages Nayina, still we meet again” Mildrid spoke out loud. “Mildrid, the leader of the witches of the dark wind, see we met after so long” the old lady replied. “Nayina, you have done so much to protect her all these years, but tell me, how much as your efforts yielded?” Mildrid asked. “What is happening here, who is Na...?” the queen asked. The old lady cut in. “Yes, I am Nayina, the human servant of the moon goddess” the old lady replied to the queen with a smile.“And she is...?” the queen pointed to Mildrid. “An enemy from centuries ago. I have stayed behind and waited patiently for ages just to put an end to her existence” the old lady explained What exactly is happening here? Every one of us looked confused. Is it to say that these two women have been in existence for hundreds of years? And it seems that there is some score that is left to be settled between them. But why must they wait for this long, and what does their grief have to do with all of us? “She can no longer dwell in your protection, you are not allowed to protect her,” Mildrid told the old lady. “And says who? She is under my care, and none can stop me from watching over her” the old lady countered. “And what has she done to her brothers? Even in war, blood remains blood. They fought in ignorance, but she was aware of the situation the whole time” Mildrid replied. The old lady chuckled and turned to the queen. “My queen, are you ready to forgive your brothers and heal them?” she asked. Hearing her question, the queen took a step back and did not utter a word.
