Caught Between Two Alphas
MILDRID’S POV I have got him at the exact spot that I want him to be. Tim. Now he is my number one zombie and I would use him to do all my bidding. As for his dying sons, I’ve got no use for them. I led him through the rough bush path as we talked about our next strategy which is getting ourselves enough zombies. It was already dark, and we made our way with the aid of the lamp that I was holding. “I agree with you, Mildrid, I completely agree with you” beta Tim replied. “We have to enforce the rule of the strong immediately,” I said. “How do we go about it, my lady, you know that alpha Fred has not implemented that yet?” he asked. “Sure he hasn’t. But then we have to cajole them into it, in such a way that they would never think of reporting to the alpha. Only the strongest of them all can be recruited into our zombies” I replied. “Shouldn’t it rather be a thing of choice, anyone that is determined should be allowed into it? All that is required should be their unquestionable loyalty” he suggested. “Then you don’t know me, Tim. What do you think attracted me to you?” I asked and without waiting for his response, I went on. “It is your strength. You are resilient in whatever you do and you never settle for less. I like people who know what they are up against” “Then how do we go about picking the strongest of werewolves, how do we get them to come to us? Remember we do not have much time left. Everything that requires to be done must be done now before the invasion of the queen” he inquired. “I have a plan, Tim. And about how much time we've got left, don’t worry yourself about the arrival of the queen for now. She has a lot of issues to attend to over there in Pixolands. We won't be seeing her anytime soon” I responded. Yes, I have a plan. I know that no one would willingly come to me, but I must make sure that they are left with no other option but to do so. And beta Tim is the key player in this. “That is amazing. So tell me, my lady, what fantastic plan do you have? We need to start implementing it already” he inquired in delight. “We would use the hunger strategy” I revealed. He did not understand the meaning of what I said and so he asked. “Hunger...” “Yes, hunger. We will also poison the major river if need be” I replied.“But how... how can we use hunger as a strategy against them?” he asked. I smiled in the darkness and stopped. He stopped too. “Aren’t you in charge of the distribution of food in the Pack?” I asked. “Yes, I am. That is my sole responsibility. And I have been doing that diligently all these years and there has been no complaint in any form” he replied with an air of pride. I continued to walk and he followed me. “We will use your office to achieve our aim. We will lock up all sources of food and only the strong will have access to them” I explained. “That won't be possible. What will be my explanation for the shortage of food in the Pack?” he asked. “Think, Tim. There has been a war and the Pack lost so much during the event and now there is not much food left. So whoever wants food must agree to engage in a fight to death battle. The survival or survivals will get enough food to take home” I explained. Hunger is our best bait here. Who doesn’t need food to survive? Anyone would do anything for a piece of bread and now I will use their desire for continual existence against them. Only those that can fight to the death will have the right to live. “Then how does this help our course? What will need are zombies, and not some bunch of hungry people fight themselves to death” he asked. “That is the bait, Tim. That is exactly what I want to achieve. Hunger can turn brothers against themselves, hunger knows no friendship, and hunger has this age-long ability to change the course of loyalty. Remember that even a fool knows where his bread is buttered. If we can increase the rate of hunger in the land, we can get them to turn against themselves. The only people that they will be loyal to are us” I explained. “But then, we still want zombies, not some bunch of hungry fools,” he said. “Making them fools is the crux of the matter, Tim. Why are you hell-bent on being slow in grabbing the gist of this?” I mused. “I guess I can only fully grasp what you intend to say if you would stop going round and round in circles” he retorted. This old man is just so naïve, but that is the stronghold that I have over him. Must everything be spent out to him in their numbers before he could comprehend? Anyway, if I want to make any headway, then I must have to list it out to him one by one. “Tim, we will cause the people to be hungry, in their hunger they rush to us and we explain to them that the war is the cause. The food cannot go round and so only the strong...”Beta Tim interrupted me. “I already know up to this part, just link it up to the idea of getting some zombies for ourselves” “Relax, Tim, you need to know every detail of our strategy, nothing must be left out as I don’t want you making any mistakes,” I said. “Okay... okay, you can go on, but please be fast about it. We don’t have much time to waste on little things” he urged. “I will. So they fight against themselves for food, and the strong get the food. But then, there is a proviso to getting the food, a hidden clause” I said. “And what clause is that?” beta Tim asked. I laughed hysterically. The thought of things going my way and having my own army of zombies gladdened my lost soul. Seeing the state of my laughter, Tim joined me in laughing too and when we were done laughing, I continued. “There will be just so little food for the winner or winners as the case may be, but then, he can decide to get more if he agrees to our agenda” I revealed. “Great” he exclaimed. “If he does not want to face any more hunger, he must agree to be our zombie and pledge undying loyalty to us,” he finally grasped my point. “Yes, his undying loyalty because even in death, he will still work for us” I replied with a sinister laugh. “That is the best, my lady. Now I will have to ensure the blockage of the supply of all food items from the morning. They will have to come to me if they desire to eat” he vowed. “And how soon should we be expecting them?’ I inquired. “As soon as the morning. For many decades there has never been a record of lack of supply in the Pack and so, the members of the Pack do not store up food. We do the storage for them. This will even go as far as Crystal Realms and Black Moon Packs. They all depend on us for their daily supply. And not to worry, their alphas are so busy at the moment to concern themselves with such trivia issues as food shortage. They will never know what we are up to” he revealed. This is the best news. Beta Tim has everything fully under control. With this, we should have more men on the first day than I have envisaged.
