The Heiress Who Took Revenge

Chapter 672 Hero to the Rescue

"Fine!" Eliza gritted her teeth and slapped her palm into Halbert’s open hand. "What do you want? I'll give it to you." "I haven't decided yet. But considering how well Tristan treats you and how he’s willing to give you anything, just don't be stingy when I see something I like later." "Psh, money is just a worldly possession. When have I ever been stingy with you?" "Then give me your company." "...I think the things Tristan gives me are much better suited for you. I remember Tristan gave me a particularly stunning watch yesterday. I'll give it to you as a token of my appreciation." With that, Eliza handed the watch over to Halbert. "Now that’s more like it." Halbert examined the piece; the strap was encrusted with diamonds. It was indeed an exquisite watch. It seemed Tristan really did dote on Eliza. "Alright, I’ve got it. You can go now. I’ll make a trip back to Westbrook for you and find a way to charm the truth out of Elaine." "I know you can do it." Eliza added urgently, "Time is of the essence. I’m afraid if we wait another step, Tyson will move to silence her for good. So please, you must find Tyson’s secret as quickly as possible!" Halbert replied nonchalantly, "A small matter like this won't stump me. I’ll have your answer within a day." Although Eliza suspected Halbert was likely boasting, she maintained a facade of absolute faith in his abilities. Elaine was currently riding a wave of overconfidence; she wouldn't leak Tyson’s secret easily. Furthermore, everyone knew Halbert was Eliza's brother. Halbert knew Eliza didn't truly believe him, but he didn't care to argue. Once he delivered the secret within twenty-four hours, his mission would be accomplished—and Eliza would have no choice but to admire her fourth brother. Halbert immediately stood up and booked a flight to Westbrook. It was already late at night.Elaine was in high spirits after her successful negotiation with Tyson. She had spent the evening out with friends and was finally heading home when, out of nowhere, a car slammed into her brand-new vehicle. Elaine’s face went pale. Several men dressed as professional bodyguards approached and grabbed her by the hair, dragging her out. Feeling as though her scalp was being torn off, Elaine cried out in a panic, "Who are you people? Are you crazy? Do you have any idea who I am? How dare you lay a finger on me!" The words had barely left her mouth before she regretted them. She saw the logos clearly printed on their uniforms: the Hayes Group. These were Hayes family men. "Did Tyson send you to silence me? He gave me his word! How can he go back on it? Is he not afraid of being ruined?" Elaine screamed hysterically, but they were near a secluded villa district with low-density housing. No one was around to hear her. Just as she was spiraling into despair, a pair of headlights cut through the darkness. The glare was blinding. Squinting, she saw a man with broad shoulders and a lean waist stepping out of a luxury car. He was dressed in a sharp, tailored suit. Upon seeing him, the attackers suddenly scattered and fled into the night. Elaine was shaking, her soul nearly frightened out of her body. The man looked at her with feigned confusion. "Is that you, Elaine?" Recognizing the voice, Elaine realized who her savior was. "Halbert?" She hadn't expected to see Halbert standing there. Halbert seemed intrigued. "What happened here? Who were those people? It looked like they were after your life." At his words, Elaine’s paranoia went into overdrive. She lunged forward and grabbed Halbert’s arm. "Help me... Please, take me to a hotel... No, take me to your place! Just for one night. I’ll leave first thing in the morning." Going back to the house she shared with Tyson now would be a death sentence. Since Tyson had no honor, he was clearly trying to wipe her out.Halbert put on a grave expression. "You are Tyson’s fiancée. Staying with me might be... inappropriate, don't you think?" "I just need a place for one night! Please! Someone just tried to kill me—I’m terrified. Just help me, please." Seeing her looking so pathetic, Halbert finally relented with a sigh. "It’s against the rules of etiquette, but given the circumstances, I suppose it’s understandable. This way, please." Halbert prepared to take Elaine back to his temporary residence. Inside the car, Elaine remained visibly shaken. Halbert asked casu
