The Heiress Who Took Revenge
What made matters worse was that Tyson had been utilizing the established channels of the Westbrook Hayes family to facilitate these operations. As Eliza scrutinized the documents, searching for a direct link to the Redemption organization, she realized that what Elaine had sent was far from the complete picture. Key pieces of the puzzle were missing. Without hesitation, Eliza dialed Elaine’s number. "I already sent you what I promised, didn't I?" Elaine’s voice was defensive and cold. "What else is there to say?" Elaine felt she had nothing left to discuss with Eliza. If Eliza hadn't given her the idea in the first place, she never would have shared those documents just to save her own skin. Above all, she couldn't stand the thought of Eliza getting exactly what she wanted. "These files are incomplete, Elaine. What exactly are you holding back?" "What I’m hiding is none of your business. I agreed to send you a portion of what I found, and these files are already enough to land Tyson in prison for life. Or are you just greedy for more?" Elaine’s tone turned mocking. "I knew your offer of 'cooperation' was a sham. You just wanted to use me to get the intel you couldn't find yourself." "I am not joking with you," Eliza said sternly. "Tyson can easily pin the crimes in these documents on a fall guy. Only the evidence that leaves him with no defense can truly bring him down. By holding back, you’re showing a lack of trust that could cost you everything." "You don't need to worry about me. I have my own ways," Elaine countered. "Besides, Tyson and I have come to an agreement. As long as I can live my life in peace, I will never leak these secrets. Our partnership is over. Tyson and I are on the same side now. I’ve given you the files; don't call me again." With a sharp click, Elaine hung up. Eliza stared at her phone, her expression grim. Elaine truly failed to grasp the gravity of the situation. Did she have any idea what kind of man Tyson actually was? If Tyson realized that Elaine was holding onto the most damning document—the one she hadn't shared or intended to spread—he would undoubtedly move to silence her. Based on the current files, Tyson still had enough room to maneuver and shift the blame. Eliza realized she needed another way to extract Tyson's deepest secrets from Elaine’s grasp. She left her room and headed straight for Halbert’s study. Halbert was engrossed in a book and didn't even look up as she entered. "What favor are you looking for this time?" "I recall you met Elaine once before, didn't you?" "I’ve met many people. Which Elaine are you referring to?" "Tyson’s fiancée, Elaine Lynn." "Ah, her." Halbert set his book down slowly. "I’ve seen her. What about it?" "I need your help," Eliza said earnestly. "Elaine is holding leverage over Tyson, but she refuses to share the most critical secret with me. I suspect it's because of my relationship with Nolan." "You know that, and yet you still come to me? I’m an outsider to her. Do you really think she would listen to a word I say?" Halbert showed little interest, but Eliza pressed on. "Elaine told me she negotiated with Tyson and he agreed to her terms. That proves she has something so sensitive it’s effectively a death sentence for his career. It’s definitely not the Saint Corp contracts she sent me; it's something much deeper." "And your point is?" "I need that secret. It could help Nolan, and it almost certainly involves the Redemption organization. Everyone in the family is investigating them right now. If you help, Tristan will surely be impressed by your contribution." "Do I look like I’m desperate for his praise?" Halbert closed his book, but a small smile played on his lips. "However, since the whole family is indeed looking into Redemption, and my little sister is the one asking... I suppose I can’t refuse." He suddenly extended his hand toward Eliza. Eliza blinked, confused. "What is this for?" "A benefit," Halbert said. "You can’t expect me to work for free, can you? I need an incentive." Eliza stared at him. She didn't remember Halbert being this mercenary. When did he start demanding "benefits" for helping his own sister? "If you don't offer something in return, I won't help," Halbert added playfully. "The choice is yours."
