Golden Moon: The Beta Twins' Contracted Mate

Chapter 96 Pack-law

Milcah's p.o.v. Katreena has been her usual bitchy self and I am glad I managed to send all my evidence to the Elders. I am hoping that the Elders will be able to move fast and get me and Mom out of here, before that Asshole that calls himself my Father realizes he can't hand over the Pack to Landis. “Zaphara, where are Landis' suits?” Katreena yells as she walks into our suite without knocking. Mom has retreated into her own world again and Katreena will not be getting an answer from her, which will set her off once again. “His suits should be with the Omegas. I believe they came in this morning and are in the process of replacing the buttons as you requested.” I answer her, hoping that she will leave our suite. “Milcah, I didn't ask you anything. Shut up, unless you are spoken to.” Katreena replies. I might hate my so-called Father, but in cases like this, I know it is best to involve him. I don't waste time arguing with Katreena; I link Alpha Ferdinand to tell him what's going on. “Katreena, how many more times do I have to tell you to stay away from them?” Alpha Ferdinand asks as he walks in and Katreena shoots me a death glare. Before she gets a chance to answer him, I explain what happened and what she said to me. I have no illusions as to what is important to Alpha Ferdinand, but his Wolf will not tolerate any disrespect toward his Mate or child. Fermin pushes forward and grabs Katreena by the throat. “Stay away from my family, or I will forget the deal I made with my Human.” He growls close to her face. Katreena and Raura, her Wolf, both whimper as soon as Fermin releases her and Alpha Ferdinand grabs her upper arm to drag her out of our suite. “You do realize that Katreena will consider this an act of war.” Mom says without taking her eyes off her sketchbook. “I know and I don't care.” I reply. “One day she will understand that there are things you can't have, no matter what kind of deal you made in the past.” Mom doesn’t ask anything; she only looks at me for a brief moment before continuing with her drawings. “Dad, where are you?” Landis calls out as he enters the Alpha floor. “A Squad entered Grand Valley territory, killing almost everyone and taking two prisoners.” I move closer to the door to hear what's being said, starting to record it to have proof and possibly listen to it later. “Any idea who was in the territory?” Alpha Ferdinand asks. “I knew someone was there, but never took the time to investigate.” “According to the Scout, it was Winston Daystone.” Landis answers. Neither has to say another word; we all know who the Daystone family was.Mom used to tell me about them as Grand Valley Pack was the birth Pack of her Grandparents. No one here knows about it, because our family didn't want to be reminded of the Asshole who once called himself an Alpha. I was told that the Alpha thought of himself as an excellent Alpha, a damn good fighter. As a result, he challenged the Alpha at that time and paid with his life. Every Pack-member was sent to Renegade territory and the Elders took care of relocating them. A handful of the Pack-members ended up at Frozen Star Pack, but the Alpha never revealed the name of their birth Pack. Mom and I are the last living descendants of Grand Valley Pack-members who moved here, but neither of us feels that that territory is our home. Frozen Star territory is our home by birth, but the second I can get out, I am gone. “Why would he try to move back into that territory? It doesn't belong to him and it hasn't belonged to his family in a very long time.” Alpha Ferdinand asks. I'm not sure who he's asking, because I have no idea if anyone else is on the Alpha floor. “From what the Scout saw, there were a lot of Pack-members. Could he have been trying to rebuild a Pack to take it back from you by force?” Landis asks. It would make sense for someone to try to take it back by force, I wouldn't just hand it over to anyone and certainly not to a descendant from the Alpha who lost it in the first place.“If he had come to me, I would have handed it over without an argument. We don’t have a use for it and at the moment, it is only costing us money.” Alpha Ferdinand responds. “We have to pay taxes for every piece of land we own, whether we use it or not.” That makes absolutely no sense to me and I tell Lynexia, my Lycan, to remind me to look up some laws on this. I am not even sure if a Pack has to pay taxes for their territory at all, but I will figure it out. Once I hear the door close behind them, I stop the recording and head to my bedroom. After discussing the matter with Lynexia, I sent the recording to the Elders. Maybe they have a use for it, but then again, they might not. Either way, I want them to know that Alpha Ferdinand knew about someone staying in a territory that belonged to another Alpha. I make sure to disconnect everything I logged onto and if anyone were to look through my laptop, they would find that I only have access to a few options. Options that seem to connect to nothing else but our internal web. It took me a long time to figure out how to connect my laptop to the outside world and I have been cautious in my use of those connections. Lynexia reminds me of the taxes and I start looking through our library to find anything that involves taxes. I am glad that there are no restrictions on my access to the library, because it makes my search a little easier. I have seven results when I search for taxes and I start reading the first one. It is a law on taxes within a territory and it doesn't make sense to me at all. Why would an Alpha charge taxes to his Pack-members for living within a territory? “It isn't a main law, this is a Pack-law.” Lynexia points out. I look at the bottom of the page and there it is in plain sight. The tell-tale sign that this is a Pack-law and Alpha Ferdinand put it in place.
