Golden Moon: The Beta Twins' Contracted Mate

Chapter 83 Not Expected

Myka’s p.o.v. I am not surprised to hear Meadow’s report on the doors we passed and one could argue that he never left the Pack-house. Rory isn’t a complete Idiot, so he must have known that staying inside the Pack-house would be a bad move. That, of course, leaves us with the question: Where did he go? “He left the stairwell on the ground floor.” I hear Makay say and see him pointing at a piece of fabric caught on a nail a few inches from the door. Meadow doubles back to the back door and opens every door on her way, but Rory isn’t in any of those rooms. I am out of ideas on where to look for Rory and Felicity, but I doubt Meadow will give up any time soon. I follow her as she walks around the Pack-house, pulling aside bushes and other flora along the way. “Angel, what are you looking for?” Makay asks and I pretend to be gagging at his endearment. He takes a swing at me with a smile, knowing I am pulling his chain. “A hidden door. There wasn’t much time for Rory to hide himself and an unconscious woman. It implies he had another place to hide her, lying low until things settle down.” Meadow answers. She doesn’t have to tell me to contact Elder Chelsea; I am already dialing the number. Elder Chelsea answers after the first ring and I quickly explain what I am looking for. I will not get a blueprint of Alpha Damon’s Pack-house and I understand that completely. “There is nothing special, no hidden rooms or corridors. If I were you, I would check the old dungeon under the Pack-house.” Elder Chelsea states and I know I have the same dumbfounded look on my face as my Brother and Mate. After Elder Chelsea has given us directions to get there, we walk back into the Pack-house and follow the directions we were given. It leads us back to the Omega stairwell and we finally understand why that piece of fabric was caught on the nail. We look at the wall to see if we can find the entry point, but I believe we need to find a lever or a button to open the door. “Should we knock on the wall?” Makay asks in a whisper and Meadow is shaking her head. “If Rory took her there, he would hear our knocking, which can spook him. Find Alpha Damon and ask him directly, but first explain to him that we have this covered.” Meadow responds and I walk away to find Alpha Damon. I find him in the Alpha office with the door wide open. As I walk in, I knock on the door and close it behind me. “Alpha Damon, we have everything under control. We might even know where to look for Rory and Felicity, but I need you to answer a question. Is there a way to get into the old dungeon?” I ask and he jumps up to walk out of the room. Thyrius is fast enough to block his path and even gives him a warning growl. “Alpha Damon, we don’t want to spook Rory. You need to remember that Felicity is with him and we have no idea what he might do once he realizes we found his hiding place.” I tell him. “Damon, listen to him. We all want justice and you will get it, but you must let them deal with it. I have a few questions for Bozo, not just to get answers but also to learn from them and prevent something like this from happening again.” Alpha Lincoln says. Alpha Damon growls a little before he sits down again, probably understanding that Alpha Lincoln has a point. “If he is down there, I want to know how he knew about it and how to get in.” I say to Alpha Damon. It is his Mate who tells me how to access the dungeon. After reassuring her that I will link Alpha Lincoln the moment I have news, I make my way back to my Mate and my Brother. “You handled that very well. Alpha Damon appreciates that you pointed out a problem within his Pack and he hopes to fix it before it is too late.” Alpha Lincoln tells me through the mind-link. I step next to Meadow and slide my hand down the right side of the left panel on the door until I feel the little button to unlock it. Although this door was locked down decades ago, it opens with a soft hiss and doesn’t squeak when I open it further. Thank the Goddess for our enhanced eyesight and speed; otherwise, I might have been rolling down the stairs. Meadow is fast enough to grab my arm and pull me back so that I see no additional space between the doorpost and the stairs. “Quietly, we don’t want Rory to hear us if he is down there.” Makay says. Yeah, as if I would run down there with bells on. I slowly put my foot on the step and put my weight on it to see if it creaks, but it doesn’t and I slowly but steadily make my way down the stairs. It is slow progress, as we need to make sure no one can hear us and Thyrius is focusing on the sounds around us. So far, he hasn’t heard anything and we haven’t seen any movement. “Stand still for a moment.” Meadow says and I look at her over my shoulder. “Sorry, I thought I heard something.” We continue to walk down the stairs in a slow manner and as I step onto the floor, I feel Meadow’s hand on my shoulder. “Did you hear that?” Meadow asks, but I didn’t hear anything and neither did Thyrius. I strain my hearing once again, but I don’t hear anything. “There, I heard it again.” Makay and I are looking at her after mentioning that we heard nothing. We both keep listening for any sound from the dungeon, but it is deadly silent down here. We wait until she has finished her conversation with Rebel, but I hadn’t expected to hear her following words.
