Golden Moon: The Beta Twins' Contracted Mate
Meadow’s p.o.v. I didn’t expect to find out that none of the Elders know Winston or what he is up to. Maryan went to the archive while I was meeting with the Elders. We took fingerprints from each dead Rogue at Gold Moon Pack; hopefully, she found a file on each of them. We strongly believe that Winston picked each Rogue for a reason. Most of them seemed to be well-trained and that usually indicates a high rank within a Pack. Low-ranking Pack-members aren’t as well-trained as High-ranking Pack-members and most High-ranking Shifters that leave a Pack, for whatever reason, get reported to the Elders. Maryan is waiting for us near the SUVs with a smile on her face, she found at least one file or she would have looked pissed off. “Let’s get back to Gold Moon territory; we need to review this file to see if our plan will work,” I say to Maryan. “It has information on Grand Valley territory, which might prove very useful to us.” After driving for half an hour, Maryan looks at me through the rearview mirror. “I didn’t take a look at the files, but I found a file for each of the dead Rogues.” She says. Damn, that means each of those Rogues was a High-ranking Shifter and their backgrounds might be the reason that Winston selected him for his Pack of Rogues. They would still become Rogues if they left their Pack to join Winston. He isn’t the official Alpha of Grand Valley Pack, meaning there isn’t a true Pack-bond with Winston, resulting in each of them becoming a Rogue. “High-ranking Shifters siding with Winston isn’t a good thing; they will most likely fight to the death, even more so than a Rogue that doesn’t live with other Rogues. They will be fighting for a cause, unlike normal Rogues, who attack for survival, on pure primal instinct.” Myka says. “I don’t know which type of Rogue is worse, but I will not take it easy on them. They made a choice and they will have to deal with the consequences.” I reply. For a while, it is silent in the SUV. My thoughts are on the man who has put a target on my back. Where the others are with their thoughts, I have no idea. “Are you looking forward to tonight, Meadow?” Alpha Lincoln asks and for a moment I just stare at him. I understand his question when I remember that tonight is the Full Moon. I take a moment to think about it, because I hadn’t really given it much thought. This will be my first Full Moon and my second chance to find my Mate, if the Goddess has granted me a second one. “Not sure. I haven’t thought about it, because I already had a Mate and he didn’t want me.” I say, while I hear Myka and Makay growl behind me. “Of course, you will get another Mate. Our Goddess knows that you haven’t done anything wrong, Rufus made a fucking mess of things and she can’t hold that against you.” Myka states. “You might not find him tonight, but you will have another Mate and technically, he will be your first Mate.” I know Myka is right; if Rebel hadn’t shown up so early, I would never have known that Rufus was my Mate. So, I guess his assumption that I will find another Mate is correct. Even though our history talks about Shifters that never found a Mate, no one ever found out why they didn’t find their fated Mate. Could it be that their first Mate reacted the same way that Rufus did? “Too bad you can’t give her a call to confirm that.” I say as I look out the window. “Hahaha. Funny, Meadow.” Myka responds while the others are chuckling. I close my eyes to let my mind wander, hoping to find a few questions or answers in all the information I have gotten. In a few hours, I will know everything about Grand Valley territory and hopefully our plan will still work. “Meadow, we’re home.” I hear Myka say and I turn to him with my eyebrows raised. This was never home, I am not even sure if it will ever be home to me. “It might become home if we find our fated Mate tonight.” Rebel says in my head. Like Myka, she is convinced I will have another fated Mate someday. Rebel is a naughty Lycan; she likes to point out all the men that have what she likes. Tall, broad shoulders, lots of muscle and preferably long hair, at least past their shoulders. Please don’t ask me why, because I have asked her and gotten no answer so far. I have managed to keep my reactions to her thoughts, images and comments hidden from everyone, but one of these days someone will notice and I am terrible at making up a white lie. I will probably blurt out what Rebel has been doing and with my luck, it will be in the middle of a full dining room. Rebel is laughing at me in my head; she would love to see that happen, the little monster. “You love having me around; you would be bored without me.” Rebel fake whines in my head. I love having my Lycan; she is excellent company up to a point. We have never argued about anything since the day she showed up, she has had my back the entire time and will probably kick anyone’s ass that tries to bad mouth me. My so-called Father has already felt a small amount of the aura that Rebel can release, the aura of a High-ranking Shifter. According to Elder Chelsea, it can get even stronger if my fated Mate is an Alpha or a Beta. We have both been wondering how much stronger it will get, because our current aura already scares the shit out of people. Combine our aura with Rebel’s naughty side and most males will run for cover when they cross us. We have already proven that in Renegade territory and not just with Makay, we have put many males back in their place since we arrived. “You’re right, I would get bored without you. Just wish you could behave at times, Rebel.” I reply. “It’s all in the name, my Human.” She responds, giggling.
