Golden Moon: The Beta Twins' Contracted Mate
Meadow’s p.o.v. Myka and Makay have been quiet ever since we read the file on Alpha Lincoln’s ancestor and even after a night of sleep, they are still silent. Everyone follows me into the Elder residence, after all, I know where we are going. I can’t wait to get to the bottom of this. I have so many questions for the Elders about Grand Valley Pack and they will answer each of them. Alpha Lincoln accompanies me to clarify that I am acting as Alpha for the day and they have to answer my questions as if he is asking them. Elder Chelsea is waiting for us outside the meeting room. The small smile she gives me is enough to answer my question. She knows why I am here and that I will not take No for an answer. Alpha Lincoln explains the situation to the Elders and some look at me disgusted, as if they find it idiotic that they will have to answer to a young woman. “For those of you who don’t know me, which will be only a handful, I will introduce myself. My name is Meadow and I am a team leader in Captain Miles’ Squad. For the past few months, we have been investigating the attacks on Packs and traveling High-ranking Shifters. Our investigation has shown us that whoever was behind it was looking for Shifters with an ability. Alpha Lincoln managed to capture a few Rogues that tried to attack Gold Moon Pack and I got a location on our target, Grand Valley territory.” I say. Myka and Makay have been monitoring the Elders to see if any of them might have more knowledge about this or if someone knows anything about the complaints about Grand Valley Pack. “We have read every complaint filed against Grand Valley Pack from Gold Moon Pack and Black Valley Pack. I don’t understand why any of you or your predecessors ignored their blatant disrespect for our Goddess and don’t tell me that the Law didn’t allow you to interfere.” I state before I turn to Makay. Both of them have kept me updated on the Elders through our mind-link, but none of the Elders seem nervous or fearful. One Elder raises his hand and I gesture to him to proceed. I know the protocol for this meeting like no other and I will make sure that everyone follows the protocol. “Grand Valley Pack stopped existing long before most of us became an Elder, but I know your reputation and don’t doubt your words. Can you tell us how our predecessors could have stopped Grand Valley Pack from doing what they were accused of?” The Elder asks. “If a Shifter takes a chosen Mate, it will weaken their bloodline. It will also affect their Pack if it happens to be a High-ranking Shifter. What does the Law state about a leadership that is putting their Pack and Pack-members in danger for personal gain?” I ask. “Damn, Meadow. I doubt anyone ever saw it that way.” Elder Chelsea says in my head, but I don’t bother with responding to her remark.“The Elders can remove that leadership or put them on probation.” Elder Josiah answers. “That is correct, but there was so much more they could have done. The Elder within their territory should have seen it coming; he should have warned the other Elders. He turned a blind eye because the Alpha chose his Daughter to become his Luna. It didn’t do much for the Elder because he died a year later and even his replacement turned a blind eye. Every Elder who lived in that territory has turned a blind eye to their behavior for personal gain and none of the other Elders ever figured it out.” I respond. We all know that each Elder who lives within a territory has taken an oath to report any misconduct to the other Elders, no matter how big or small. Breaking that oath can mean losing their title as an Elder and hearing that there have been Elders to break their oath isn’t easy. “The reason that Alpha Daystone was defeated has everything to do with his bloodline, the bloodline his ancestors weakened over centuries of rejecting their fated Mate. At the moment all we know is that his Grandson, Winston Daystone, is looking for a special Shifter. More specifically, he is looking for me.” I state. Every Elder starts mumbling about my revelation; it seems that none of them expected to find out that I belong to a special bloodline. “I believe you all know who my Uncle is and that each of you knows from which bloodline he descends.” I say while looking at the Elders. “We know about your bloodline. We are just surprised that Winston still hasn’t given up, not after he failed to claim your Mother years ago.” Elder Josiah responds. According to Uncle Major, Winston came to Renegade territory after Mom left with Elder Morton. I hadn’t expected any of the Elders to remember. I figured they had forgotten all about it, but I was wrong. “What are your plans?” Elder Chelsea asks. “Did you discuss this with Captain Miles?” “Captain Miles and his Squad are in Gold Moon territory at my request, I felt better if Meadow didn’t have to travel too much.” Alpha Lincoln replies. “We have been planning an attack since we uncovered his location. We will leave in a few days; Captain Miles wants to give each of us some time with our fated Mate if we find him or her tonight.” I say to Elder Chelsea. Elder Josiah walks to the door when a knock sounds and a moment later, he walks toward me with a file in his hand. “This file contains information that no one outside the Elders can access, a detailed map of Grand Valley territory. It might give you an advantage during the attack. We want Winston alive, the rest is up to Captain Miles.” Elder Josiah says as he hands me the file. “Elder Josiah, why is this file not public knowledge?” Myka asks. “This file was given to us by Winston’s Uncle, decades after his Brother had gotten himself killed. He said that Winston had an unhealthy obsession with becoming the Alpha of Grand Valley Pack and feared that Winston would do something stupid.” Elder Josiah answers. Winston did do something stupid, all right. He decided to come after me.
