Golden Moon: The Beta Twins' Contracted Mate
Myka’s p.o.v. Meadow gives me a weird look when I tell her that we are home. Damn, I forgot for a moment that she left for a reason. Gold Moon Pack was never her home, her Father made sure of that. Her Uncle might live here, but hasn’t been here her whole life. She doesn’t have fond memories of this territory or its inhabitants; only her friends gave her a feeling of belonging. I watch her as she gets out of the SUV, but nothing indicates that she is angry about my remark. “She is talking to Rebel.” Thyrius states, but he has to be kidding. He can’t possibly know if they are communicating and she keeps walking in the direction of the Pack-house, straight toward Rhys. “We need to talk.” Rhys says as she walks up the steps to the front door. Meadow doesn’t respond, so he steps in front of her to get her attention. We all see it coming, but no one warns Rhys about the danger heading his way. Meadow balls her hand into a fist before she looks him in the eye. Her hand moves up with precision, connecting with his jaw. He stumbles backwards at the force of her punch, tripping over the threshold of the frontdoor and landing on his ass in front of Luna Leona. “Guards, throw him in the dungeons.” Luna Leona says as she turns away from Rhys. He is still groggy when two guards pick him up from the floor and drag his ass down to the dungeons. He doesn’t even struggle against them or make a sound; Meadow really punched his lights out this time. I follow her down the hall to the meeting room, figuring she wants to work for a little while. I am surprised to see her put the files away and walk back out, locking the door behind her. “Tonight, we will have a Full Moon party in the Ballroom. Only Pack-members and Squad members are in attendance; there is no need to dress up.” Alpha Lincoln says through a Pack-wide link. Because I come from down the hall, I see a few Omegas looking at one another with a strange look in their eyes. I don’t pay much attention to it, so I head up to the Beta floor to take a shower before dinner. Makay is stretched out on the couch, arm over his eyes, indicating that he has something on his mind. I decide to forgo my shower to talk to my Brother instead. “What is on your mind?” I ask as I sit down in a chair across from him. At first, he doesn’t respond, but I know that he will answer me eventually. “Promise me that you will stay with me tonight. Promise that you will keep me from doing something stupid.” Makay mumbles. He is still afraid that he will walk away from our Mate when we find her. “Don’t worry. Blade will stop you from doing something stupid; he wants his Mate as much as we do and I doubt you want to reject her once you meet her. We both know that that is how it works with a fated Mate.” I tell him.I will stay close to Makay tonight, just for his sake. Thyrius and I will stay by his side if it makes him feel better. Besides, it will be best if our Mate knows from the start that she has multiple Mates. I remember a story from Dad when he was twenty. He had been at a Full Moon party and one of our Pack-members had found her fated Mate, but she wasn’t informed of a second Mate until the following morning. Her second Mate wasn’t happy with a Warrior as his Mate, but none of them had expected her to overhear their conversation. The result was that she rejected both males. Her reason was that they wanted to keep her second Mate hidden from her; he had a chosen Mate and lived in another Pack. A good reason for me and Makay to stay together during a Full Moon and a reassurance for Makay at the same time. “Dinner is about to be served. Are the two of you coming?” Mom asks and we both get out of our seats to follow her down the stairs to the main dining room. I don’t fully register what is happening around me, my mind is more on the Full Moon than anything else. So, I am not fully aware of the fact that the Omegas are taking shifts in eating their dinner and are back in the kitchen before anyone realizes it. No one else seems to register it either, more focused on the party than what is happening around them. Every conversation in the dining room revolves around the Full Moon and the party we will have in a few hours. The great thing about not having any visitors is the peace and quiet, not just for us but for all Pack-members. There will be no Omegas running around like headless chickens to get everything done before the first guests arrive and there will be no females talking about a potential Mate from another Pack and with that, I mean the High-ranking guests. Stella and Sarah are not the only females in this Pack who prefer a High-ranking Mate over their fated Mate, but Alpha Lincoln knows how to deal with females who think that way. Makay and I walk upstairs to put on another shirt. We both tend to make a mess of our shirts during dinner because we aren’t always paying attention to what we are doing. We are too invested in conversations to see where our spoon or fork goes. It doesn’t happen with every meal but occurs at least twice weekly. No matter what Mom and Dad have tried, we always make a mess during dinner. Mom believes it will change when we have our Mate, because then we will concentrate less on our surroundings and more on the approximately thirty two inches where our plates are. Yeah, Mom actually measured the distance from my left arm to Makay’s right arm during dinner once. We told her that she had forgotten our Mate, but Dad pointed out that we would never allow her to sit in her own chair again unless we had guests or something similar. “Not happening if she is like Meadow.” Thyrius says with a chuckle as we leave the Beta floor. We are halfway down the stairs when we hear vehicles approaching the Pack-house, which is strange because Alpha Lincoln didn’t send out any invitations.
