Golden Moon: The Beta Twins' Contracted Mate
Makay’s p.o.v. Blade is hiccupping as he rolls around my head, but I’m not doing much better. I never thought that a small warning could lead to a fit of laughter, but this will always be a favorite memory of mine. I haven’t laughed this hard in ages and that with my Brother. This reminds me of when we were much younger; we often laughed like this. Meadow is sitting on the ground while Myka is lying on his back, tears rolling down their faces as they laugh. I sit down next to Meadow as I do my best to stop laughing, but looking at Myka makes that impossible. “It has been a long time since I have heard the two of you laugh like that. What happened?” Dad asks, but I am unable to answer him. “Myka told me about his encounter with River and Misha, but he forgot someone was walking behind us.” Meadow answers as she looks at Rhys. I was almost calm when she answered Dad; his look is enough to send me back into a fit of laughter. I look at Meadow, who has a small, devilish smile on her face. She gave him the answer on purpose and something tells me that she wanted everyone to hear it. Other Pack-members are softly laughing as they glance at Rhys, pissing him off more and more. I look at Meadow from the corner of my eye, the smile on her face growing with each passing minute. Yep, she definitely answered Dad a little louder than necessary. She wanted to make Rhys look like a fool or at the very least make him uncomfortable. “Sorry, I couldn’t resist.” I hear Meadow say through the mind-link. Yeah, right. She isn’t sorry and we all know it. “Meadow, I think it is best if you skip training. There is something you want to see and I have it in my office.” Dad says after a few moments. She grabs my hand and pulls me with her to the Pack-house, Dad and Myka follow us quickly. “I promised the two of you could help me and I have a feeling I am glad I made that promise.” Meadow says as we walk toward Dad’s office. I barely notice the look Dad gives Myka, but I see the huge grin on Myka’s face and I know I am screwed. My heart sinks when I see the files on the table, but Meadow pulls me toward it. “I assume that these files are on Grand Valley Pack, or should I say the complaints about Grand Valley Pack. Submitted to the Elders by Gold Moon Pack and Black Valley Pack.” Meadow says. Dad doesn’t say a word; he just sits down on a couch with his tablet. “You are the Beta; figure it out." He mumbles. After about two hours, Mom walks in with breakfast. Meadow and Myka barely take time to thank her, their faces still buried in the files they are reading. Each complaint to the Elders have been gathered in multiple files and I have only read one complaint at the moment, but already sick of the Asshole it concerns. If my hunch is correct, then this is the first complaint about Grand Valley. It is a complaint from Gold Moon Pack about the Alpha. He attended a Full Moon party in Gold Moon territory and found his fated Mate. She was the Daughter of Gold Moon’s Gamma, but he rejected her in the morning in front of every Pack-member who had gathered to wave her goodbye. After she collapsed from the pain, her Father saw the bruises on her stomach, caused by her Mate cheating on her. The file includes every name of the people involved: the Alpha, the female he cheated with and his Beta, who held his fated Mate down. She testified in front of the Elders, telling them how he had taken her to the room that was appointed to him, that his Beta had been waiting inside the room with his Sister, what had happened that night and the rejection in the morning. The Elders couldn’t do anything for her. There is no Law against rejecting your mate and they didn’t believe her recount of that night. It was her word against that of the Alpha and his Beta, so the complaint was buried. I grab another file after I have finished my breakfast, this time it is a complaint from Black Valley Pack about Grand Valley’s Beta and it is the same Asshole from my first file. He rejected his fated Mate in the morning, just like his Alpha had done. The difference between the two cases is that he slept with his fated Mate to placate his Wolf and knowing his Wolf was asleep, he rejected her without a problem. There was no trial or hearing in this case; it was just a complaint to notify the Elders. “Did the Goddess decide to let every Asshole be born into Grand Valley Pack?” I mumble as I place the file back on the table. We continue reading the files with complaints. Most of them are just reports to the Elders on High-ranking members from Grand Valley Pack rejecting their fated Mates in humiliating ways. A handful of reports resemble the first two files I read, which are the most difficult to read. I know there are many Shifters who reject their fated Mates for whatever reason, but I believe this should be done in private. I grab the last file from the table and after reading through the first page, I wish I had never picked it up. This file is about a family member of Alpha Lincoln, his Grandfather’s baby Sister. Her fated Mate was… Damn, you have got to be kidding me. Winston’s Grandfather was her fated Mate and rejected her in front of every guest at a Full Moon party at Black Valley Pack. I slide the file in front of Meadow and she starts cussing and swearing as she reads it. “Dad, did you know that one of these complaints was filed by Alpha Lincoln’s Grandfather?” I ask and a moment later, he grabs the file from the table. While he reads the file, the door to Dad’s office opens and Alpha Lincoln walks in.“Alpha Lincoln, you need to call the Elders. Tell them you want a meeting in the morning.” Meadow says. “Yeah, and you want me to pay up, don’t you?” He asks as he grabs his phone.
