Golden Moon: The Beta Twins' Contracted Mate

Chapter 67 Take Over

Meadow’s p.o.v. “Okay, now that you all know that I don’t take crap from anyone, let’s get back to training.” I say as Rhys slowly opens his eyes. After sparring in Human form, we make everyone run around the territory at high speed. Pack-members believe they will beat the Squad, but they have no idea on how we train. We rely on our Shifter half to help us out, to warn us about anything ahead of us that might cause problems. “Do you think Makay told Myka about our training sessions?” Maryan asks. “We will know if he did when Myka is able to keep up with us.” I answer her. We formed teams of ten Shifters each, five Pack-members and five Squad members. I put my team members with Makay, Myka, Malek, Mauro and Magnus; they are the first team to make the run around the territory. “Their time will be the time to beat. Let’s see who can make the best time today.” I say, while handing Gamma Layton a note: Link border patrol; they need to keep an eye out for cheaters. I don’t use the mind-link because I want to keep an eye on the Pack-members who are waiting to start their run. Rhys and Mia are talking through the mind-link, probably trying to figure out a way to avoid making this run. “Beta Lennox, I’d like you to pay up tomorrow. I need some additional information before we can make final plans for our attack on Grand Valley Pack.” I tell him and his facial expression tells me that he knows what I am looking for. It will not surprise you that the only Pack-members that came close to the time of our Squad members are the future leadership and my friends, all eight of them. Gamma Layton steps next to me with his phone out, a list of Shifters that tried to cheat on the run. “Rhys, Mia, Sarah, Rory, Rufus and Stella.” I call out. Everyone stops talking as the six of them turn to face me. “It seems that you all thought it was a good idea to cheat. Unfortunately for you, I had suspected something like this and asked border patrol to keep an eye on things. For cheating today, you will all assist the Omegas in the kitchen for two days.” I say. “Do I have volunteers to keep an eye on them?” I ask before anyone can respond. Eight hands go up and I smile to myself when I realize who just volunteered to ensure that their punishment is fulfilled to my satisfaction. “Before any of you try to object to your punishment, I want to remind you that Meadow is acting as our Gamma today and she has every right to hand out punishment if it is necessary.” Alpha Lincoln says. I follow the group to the kitchen and listen as Brooklyn explains why they are there. “Good, I can use the extra hands. We have a lot to prepare for the Full Moon and there are enough things we can make a few days in advance.” The Head Omega states with a smile on her face. “Mia, I wouldn’t try to object if I were you. If any of them try to leave or don’t show up for their next shift, let Alpha Lincoln know.” I say to Brooklyn before I walk out of the kitchen. I return to the training grounds to find the other Squad members still sparring. Some Pack-members have joined them, but most have left already. We train for another hour before we all get changed for lunch. Most Pack-members stick to their old groups while eating, but others have mingled with the Squad members and I listen to pieces of their conversations. “Gamma Meadow, you better go to the kitchen.” I hear someone say behind me. Turning around, I see one of the Omegas who was present when I walked my lost sheep into the kitchen. I follow her through the side door to the kitchen and am instantly met with a lot of yelling. “I am not going to help. I am the future Gamma female of this Pack and this is beneath me. I am not a filthy Omega.” Stella yells. Before I can say a word, someone pushes me to the side. “Stella, that is more than enough. Even if Rufus takes over as Gamma, you will never become this Pack’s Gamma female. You are assigned to the kitchen indefinitely.” Luna Leona says. Stella turns toward Luna Leona with a murderous look in her eyes, but the moment she sees me, she growls at me.“He will never be yours; he is mine. He didn’t want a nobody as his Mate, so he chose me.” Stella growls and every conversation stops, both in the kitchen and in the dining room. “Thank you for clarifying that you are not Rufus’ fated Mate.” Luna Leona says. “We were already aware of that, but without proof or a confession, we couldn’t make it public knowledge. Even though I know that the rumors have been flying through the territory, now everyone has heard you confess to it.” It is true that after that showdown between Myka and Rufus, the rumors started flying around the territory. Most couldn’t believe that a future Gamma would take a chosen Mate, no matter what background his or her Mate would have. “Luna Leona, I might be mistaken, but didn’t Alpha Lincoln already tell Rufus that he would never become Gold Moon’s Gamma for taking a chosen Mate?” I ask. Okay, now it is official. If looks could kill, I would be dead right now. Luna Leona turns around to face me, probably to make sure that Stella can’t see the huge grin on her face. “You are right, Meadow. Our Pack-laws prohibit a High-ranking member from taking his or her position if they take a chosen Mate. My Mate had no other choice but to pull Rufus from that position.” She answers. “Does this mean that Makay and Myka will take over that position?” I ask. I see Stella looking at Myka, and not in a good way.Would she reject Rufus in the hope of getting Myka or Makay as her Mate? I hope she understands that twins always share a Mate.
