Golden Moon: The Beta Twins' Contracted Mate
Meadow’s p.o.v. On our way back to the Pack-house, we talk about my winnings and in which order to collect them. I will ask Gamma Layton for his position first; a day as acting Gamma is going to be a lot of fun. Makay suggested asking for it after Captain Miles shows up; that way, I can utilize our Pack-members who weren’t too kind to me while growing up and even Rhys will have to join in the training. “Meadow, can we talk?” I hear Rhys asking from the front porch and both Myka and Makay growl at him. “I have nothing to say to you. You made your choice years ago and there is no room for you in my life. Whatever you want to say to me can be done in public with as many witnesses as possible.” I respond. “I am your Father; show me some respect. I made sure you had a roof over your head, food on the table and clothes to wear.” Rhys replies. For a moment, I am stunned. I'm not entirely sure how to respond to his remarks; there are so many lies in just that one sentence and I wait as more people gather around us. “You are right about the roof over my head, Rhys. The rest of them are just lies because you never acted like my Father; you weren’t there for me when I woke up in the middle of the night from a nightmare or from having a fever. Francis did all that because Alpha Hank ordered her to raise me. You never put food on the table for me; you never provided me with clothes to wear. Francis did all of that and so much more. I don’t have to show respect to a man who would tell his Son that the baby girl his Mother is holding is an intruder, someone who isn’t part of their family. You rejected our Mother when you got the results from River’s blood test back, shortening Mom’s life. She knew she was dying and with the rejection, she had no other choice but to leave me behind; she knew there wasn’t enough time to find a good home for me.” I stop talking because River decides that he wants a piece of our Father. River is a hell of a lot stronger than Rhys thought because Rhys barely has time to react to the punches River throws at him. I stop Uncle Major from interfering; River has a right to take his anger out on Rhys. Because of Rhys’ actions, River and I grew up without our family. “Stay away from my Sister and me. Neither one of us wants you to be a part of our lives.” River says this before he punches Rhys out cold. “Feeling better, Love.” Misha says as he wraps his arms around River, smiling at me. Myka pulls me toward the Pack-house, away from Rhys. The others don’t even look at him as he is still lying on the floor, unconscious. “Alpha, should I call the Doctor?” Someone asks, but instead of answering, Alpha Lincoln points to his right. Our Pack-Doctor is standing there, leaning against a tree with his arms folded across his chest. He shakes his head as if to say, Don't bother. “Meadow, how were you able to tell the twins apart?” Luna Leona asks as we disappear into the Pack-house. “Sorry, Luna. That is my little secret. Maybe someday I will tell you, but that all depends on how Myka and Makay behave themselves.” I say with a smile. We retreat to the Alpha floor at Alpha Lincoln’s request; he wants to give me and River some time in private. River asks me questions about Renegade territory, we both ask Uncle Major questions about Mom and in the meantime we get to know one another. Uncle Major tells River about Mom; things I already know but I still listen to the stories. Sometimes, one of the others asks a question, but most of the time, they just listen to our conversation. It is near dinner time when Captain Miles arrives. He starts shouting orders the moment he gets out of his SUV and I walk down the steps of the front porch to help. “They don’t need the help of a little girl.” I hear Rhys saying from somewhere to my left, but I am not paying any attention to his presence. “Captain Miles, I will show you to our workspace for the time being.” I say as I grab one of the boxes from the trunk. “This is my Brother, River.” They shake hands before each grabbing a box, too and follow me back into the Pack-house. We don’t have to go back for a second trip because the others have also grabbed a box or other items Captain Miles brought along.“Is that the Asshole?” Captain Miles asks. He doesn’t have to tell me who he is referring to because Captain Miles knows my entire story, including the lies Rhys told River. I confirm his suspicions as I place the box on a table in the corner, quickly followed by other boxes. “Dinner is ready. Captain, we have set a table for you and your Squad next to the Alpha table.” Luna Leona says. “Luna, could you close the door for a moment?” I ask her, noticing that she is closest to the door. After she has closed the door, I turn to Gamma Layton with a smile on my face. “Gamma Layton, I’d like you to pay your debt tomorrow.” I say. For a moment, he is too stunned to respond. “I want to show everyone here what they have ignored for years, what they have looked down on for years. Starting with the Asshole that has the guts to call himself my Father.” I can see the others smiling, while our Squad is wondering what is going on. Maryan explains what happened a few hours ago and what my winnings are. “Alpha, you’re in for one hell of a ride. Meadow is going to make this Pack pay dearly for what they put her through. I am going to let her lead our training sessions and it will be brutal for some.” Captain Miles says when he realizes why I want Gamma Layton to pay up.
