Golden Moon: The Beta Twins' Contracted Mate
Makay’s p.o.v. I know I shouldn’t bet against Meadow, but what she is saying is impossible. We are identical twins, so there are no differences between us. The only one that might be able to tell us apart is our Mate; not even our parents can tell us apart from a distance. Alpha Lincoln is enjoying this bet and so are the Pack-members. Today, they will see Mountain Lions for the first time in their life. “Okay. Makay and Myka will be the first to test this theory. Both of them will change into identical outfits; they will come out here for everyone to see and our leadership will tell us who they think is Makay and who is Myka.” Misha explains the events. Myka and I walk into the mud room to change into black jeans and a white shirt, both of us smiling as we step onto the back porch. “I have no idea who is who. So, I want you to step to my right if you think that he is Myka.” Misha says and both of us have trouble keeping a straight face. I am standing on Misha’s right, not Myka. Blade is enjoying this game as everyone steps to Misha’s right, but Meadow looks at both of us. From top to bottom and I am actually starting to feel a bit uncomfortable, but Myka seems to enjoy the attention. “This is Myka.” Meadow says with finality in her voice as she steps to Misha’s left.“How the hell did you know?” We both ask her in unison, but she just shakes her head. Everyone steps back to their former spot and a few minutes later, Malek and Mauro step onto the back porch. Misha tells them to step to his right if they think it is Mauro, otherwise to step to his left. Blade growls in my head when Meadow looks at Malek and Mauro from top to bottom, not liking the attention she gives them. Everyone is standing to Misha’s left, but again, Meadow takes the opposite side, saying, “This is Mauro.” “What the fuck.” Mauro says because she did it again. In the meantime, River has placed a plaid between two trees for us to shift behind. This one is going to be even better; there's no way anyone can tell us apart in shifter form. “Do you think she will be able to tell us apart?” Myka asks over the mind-link while we strip down to shift into Bear form. “She was just lucky; we have tried so often and failed every time.” I answer him, remembering how we tried this ourselves in the weeks after our first shift. Blade and Thyrius walk to the back porch, standing on the opposite side than we did in Human form. Both of them sit down on their hind legs, looking at our friends and family. Mom keeps going from left to right until Dad tells her to make up her mind. Everyone thinks that Thyrius is Blade, except, of course, for Meadow. She scrathces him behind his ear as she says, “Hello, Blade.” She also knows which of the Mountain Lions is Gossom and Blade shoves his head between Meadow and Barion the moment she wants to hug him. “Jealous, Blade.” Meadow says as she giggles at his antics. She jumps on his back without hesitation and Blade takes off while she wraps her arms around his neck. Meadow knows what Blade is capable of, so she lies on his back as he continues to run around the territory. Ending up in the clearing that we now know has been her training ground. “River came here after discovering the truth; your friends helped him get rid of his anger. I believe they even helped Myka when we found out the consequences if I would reject our Mate.” I say, while Blade lies down in the middle of the clearing. “What are your intentions now, Makay? Still planning on rejecting your Mate if she wants to fight.” Meadow asks. “Dad explained what I witnessed as a cub. Mom scolded me for thinking that she shouldn’t fight. Mom explained that I wouldn’t be the only one to worry about my Mate; she would worry about me too.” I answer her. “I think what helped me even more has been talking to Myka. We will share a Mate and we will share the same worries. We have discovered one thing, though: we need to talk to our Mate. Communication is the key to all our questions.” I tell her. “The two of you need to return to the Pack-house. Dad wants to know how you managed to win this bet and I would like to know how you knew Blade was pushing you instead of Thyrius.” Myka says as he steps into the clearing. He tossed me my clothes and Blade picks them up off the ground to disappear behind a few bushes. “His scent.” I hear Meadow say. “We remember his smell from when we trained together in Renegade territory. It doesn’t make sense to me, but it is the truth.” I see her lean towards Myka and this time Blade remains calm. He doesn’t seem to mind that she is getting close to Myka, but other males bother him. “You smell almost the same, but there is a slight difference.” She says while she hooks her arms through ours, pulling us along with her toward the Pack-house. “Are you going to tell them how you can keep us apart?” Myka asks a question I would also like to have an answer to. She just smiles as we walk along one of the small paths that lead back to the Pack-house. In a few hours, she will be too busy to spend time with us, and Blade wants to make the most of the time she has with us, even if it means sharing her with our friends and family. “Meadow, what are you going to do with your winnings?” Myka asks with a smile and I snort when I'm reminded of what our parents lost today. “Why do you ask? Do you want to take the Alpha office for a day?” She asks Myka with a smirk on her face, understanding that it would cause trouble throughout the territory.“I’ll make you a deal, Myka. I will take my winnings one day at a time, and the two of you get to help me.” She says, smiling. This is going to be fun; no one will ever bet against Meadow again.
