Golden Moon: The Beta Twins' Contracted Mate

Chapter 62 Our Bet

Meadow’s p.o.v. Instead of heading back to Renegade territory, Captain Miles and the rest of our Squad will come to Gold Moon territory. A compromise that Alpha Lincoln was able to make with Elder Chelsea, which required some screaming from both sides and a few chuckles from the rest of us. “Myka, please prepare the large meeting room for Captain Miles. They are going to need a place to work and that might just be big enough.” Beta Lennox says before he turns his attention to me. “You will be staying on the Beta floor. I don’t want Rhys or Rufus anywhere near you; after all, you are family.” He says as he walks away. I stare after him because I have never set foot on the Beta floor in my life. Rhys and River never lived there; I assume that Rhys still lives in that house next to the Pack-house. I follow Myka down the stairs; I want to see where we will be working for a while and I am surprised to see a large and luxurious space. “Alpha Lincoln updated many of the rooms and offices after we arrived here. I'm not sure who decorated the place, but they definitely lacked taste.” Myka states. He holds out his phone to show me pictures of what it looked like. My butt starts to hurt, just looking at a picture of the chairs that once stood in this room. The tables don’t look too sturdy and why a white tabletop? “Myka, what are you doing in here?” I hear someone ask from somewhere behind me, but I have no intention of acknowledging their presence. “Former Gamma Nathan, that is none of your concern. My Father gave me an assignment; if you don’t like it, you can take it up with him.” Myka says as he looks around the room to count the chairs. “What are you doing here? Go back to where you came from; we don’t want outsiders here.” I hear the same voice again, the one I now know belongs to Rufus’ Father. “Sounds to me like you can stay. After all, you were born and raised here.” Myka responds and I smile at him for standing up for me. I don’t need him to do it, but I like the gesture. The door slams shut after Nathan has walked out. Well, I should say stomped out because he sounded like a little elephant. Rebel starts laughing as we remember Lilith’s remark about still accepting her Daughter if she were a penguin. “You think that Nathan might be an elephant.” I whisper to Myka. His mouth opens and closes as he thinks of a response, but he gives up and starts laughing instead. I have transferred all the information onto my laptop and connect it to the screen on the wall; it will make it easier to show the information to the rest of the Squad. “Myka, do you have notepads and pens somewhere? I need a whole bunch of them.” I ask and Myka looks at me with a shocked expression on his face. He runs out of the meeting room after I told him about the tables in our building. We tend to write while discussing a case and it has happened that we wrote on the table instead of on paper, simply because we forgot to grab a notepad. Don’t ask me how we manage to write and discuss cases simultaneously; we just do. I once took the time to observe our other Squad members during a meeting; it's strange to see how it works. We all seem to write down words that stick out, then we discuss them amongst ourselves. Usually resulting in a lively discussion and answers to most questions. “Can I watch while you all discuss this case?” Myka asks as he walks back into the room with a basket full of notepads and pens. “I’ll ask Captain Miles, even though I have a feeling that Alpha Lincoln has called in a few favors. It wouldn’t surprise me if I have a Teddybear or two tagging along.” I say over my shoulder. He chuckles while we place the items on the tables in the meeting room. I glance at him from time to time; I want to see if in Human form, he also differs from Makay. Both of them are 6”5 in height and both of them have emerald green eyes. But like in Bear form, Myka is a bit broader than his Brother and his black hair seems to be a shade darker than that of Makay. “Why is Thyrius’ chest patch lighter, while Myka’s hair is darker?” I ask Rebel, not that I am expecting her to have an answer to my question. “Ask Beta Lennox; he might have an answer.” She responds as the guy in question walks into the room.“Beta Lennox, I have a question for you. As the Father of twins, you and Gamma Layton might be able to answer it.” I say to get their attention. “Is it possible that the difference between a twin in Human form can be the opposite of the difference in their Shifter form?” I know they might not understand my question and I already figured out how to give them an example. “I am assuming that you are talking about difference in spots or patches?” Gamma Layton asks and I slowly nod my head. “Let's see if I understand this correctly. A Bear has a chest patch and you want to know if that could be lighter or darker than, for instance, the hair color or eye color in Human form.” Beta Lennox says and again I nod my head. Both Beta Lennox and Gamma Layton shake their heads as they say it is impossible; neither of them believes it exists. “Let’s test it with the twins.” Misha calls out, eager to see if my theory holds ground. Within seconds, I am dragged out of the Pack-house by River, while Misha explains what the test is about to everyone who has joined us in the backyard. They even put a wager on it; everyone says that the difference isn’t opposite but similar and I am the only one that says that it is the opposite. Pack-members have gathered around to place bets on who will win our bet and even my team members join them.
