Golden Moon: The Beta Twins' Contracted Mate
Meadow’s p.o.v. For months, we have been trying to figure out who is ordering these attacks. Why our target is so damn interested in a special bloodline? Brent was the only Wolf from a special bloodline we had the opportunity to speak with; every other bloodline had gone extinct years ago and we hadn’t been able to find any journals from those bloodlines. There might never have been journals or the last remaining member of the bloodline may have destroyed them before dying. Now I have to wait for another attack to get more answers because the Rogue we captured isn’t talking. He plays mute, deaf and dumb whenever he gets interrogated. My phone ringing pulls me from my thoughts and I am grateful that I get to take my mind off this case for a few minutes. If I had known why Uncle Major called me, I might have decided not to answer that damn phone. “Meadow, Gold Moon has just been attacked, and we need you to get here as soon as possible. We captured the two Rogues who tried to break into the infirmary’s archives, and Makay has figured something out.” Uncle Major says. Rebel growls in my head at the prospect of seeing our Father again; neither one of us wants to face him ever again, but we know that we need to get all the information we can. “Fine, Uncle Major. We will be there as soon as possible. I want to close this case and eliminate whoever is behind it.” I growl before I disconnect the call. Throughout the entire trip to Gold Moon Pack, I let the case run through my mind. If I don’t, I will probably drive myself nuts with thinking about facing my Father. I look at the Wolves and Lycans at the gate and Rebel pushes forward when we see Blade waiting there. A second Bear shows up, and no one has to tell me that it is Thyrius, Myka’s Bear. They look almost identical, but Thyrius has a slightly lighter chest patch than Blade and he seems to be a bit broader than his twin. Both of them run alongside the SUVs as we drive towards the Pack-house, I still remember how to get there and I am surprised to see River waiting by the front porch. I jump out of the SUV, which has barely come to a stop and run straight into my Brother’s open arms. He lifts me off the ground to spin me around, his face buried in my neck and I just give him the time to calm himself down. “I am so sorry.” He whispers over and over. He has apologized many times already since we first started talking and no matter how often I tell him to stop apologizing, he just doesn’t listen. “Okay, Babe. Can I greet my baby Sister too?” I hear Misha ask with a fake whine and I lift my head up to look into his smiling face. “No, she is all mine.” River responds teasingly and turns me away from Misha.I see Thyrius standing next to me, his head tilted to the left and I smile at the big Grizzly Bear that steps a little closer. “Hello, Thyrius. It's nice to meet you.” I say as I reach out my hand to pet his head. “Is your Brother’s Human still an Ass?” I hear several people gasp as a familiar voice behind me asks, “How did you know it was Thyrius?” I start to wiggle in my Brother’s arms and he softly growls when he realizes I am trying to get out of the hold he has on me. “Hello, Beta Lilith. Not that difficult; there is a slight difference between Thyrius and Blade. However, I might keep that to myself because I doubt anyone else has ever noticed it.” I say as I turn towards her. Misha takes advantage of the situation to hug me, but River doesn’t step too far away from me and a second later I understand why. “What are you doing out here? Go home and don’t bother the High-ranking members.” I hear my Father say from behind me. “I outrank you, Dumbo. I work for the Elders and you no longer hold a rank.” I growl in his direction, my voice mixed with Rebel's. “I haven’t lived here for over a year and I believe that you are very well aware of that.” Thyrius steps to my left, while River stays behind me. Neither one of them gives my Father a friendly look. “I am a team leader for one of the Squads and here on official business, former Beta Rhys.” I say and I see the shock cross his face. “Uncle Major, I believe that you have some additional information for my investigation.” I say, while I turn my back on the male that is my so-called Father. “Don’t you disrespect me, young lady.” Rhys growls at me. “I am your Fahter and I will always outrank you.” Before I get a chance to respond, I see Beta Lilith punch him in the face and with a fake pout, I look at her. “I wanted to do that.” I whine softly and I can hear my team members laughing. “I understand that, Dear. However, he has been working on my nerves ever since we arrived and this was the last straw. Next time he opens that yap of his, you can shut it.” Lilith says with a smile on her face. I like Lilith; she has been nice to me since the first time we met and after Misha and River marked and mated, she became a Mom to me. Calling me at least once a week and sending at least one message a day, just to check up on me. If I didn’t reply to her message, I would get a call from Uncle Major or from Elder Chelsea. Lilith knew exactly who to call and I made sure to respond to her message after two calls from Uncle Major and one from Elder Chelsea. “Thanks, Mom.” I say as I interlink my arm with Lilith’s and walk into the Pack-house with her.
