Golden Moon: The Beta Twins' Contracted Mate

Chapter 53 Take Him Down

Makay’s p.o.v. Dad suspected that we would be attacked soon, so we made the necessary preparations to give them a warm welcome. Myka and I have taken the day patrol; we have a good idea of where they will attack us and where they will try to enter the territory. Cameras were installed all along the borders and even if we are wrong, we will be able to get there in time to stop them. Misha had given us a rundown on the attack on Black Valley Pack and we used it to our advantage. I contacted Elder Josiah to tell him of our plans and he has a nice cell waiting for whoever we are able to catch. We maintained the patrols according to the old Alpha’s schedule, hoping it would cause the Rogues to make mistakes. “Rogues approaching.” I hear through the mind-link and Myka starts walking to our hiding spot. We decided to stay away from the other Warriors on patrol. We want to see how they actually play out these attacks, and hopefully, we can provide Meadow with more information if she needs it. About twelve Rogues keep approaching our border, but not attacking the way you would expect from Rogues. “It is that I know what they are up to, but this looks ridiculous.” Myka says through the mind-link.“Two approaching the infirmary.” Magnus reports through the mind-link and the Rogues intensify their attacks without injuring anyone. “One more Rogue, a little further from this group.” One of the Warriors calls out through the mind-link, which is the cue for one of our female Warriors to join them. Myka and I keep our eyes on the Rogue, who suddenly rushes to the border and tries to grab our female Warrior. She sidesteps him as he lunges at her and her fist connects with the side of his head; he growls when he collides with another Rogue. I hear a few Warriors chuckle through the mind-link, while the Rogue moves toward her again. “He’s a Mountain Lion.” She says through the mind-link and I remember Dad mentioning something about Meadow, asking about other Rogue Shifters and their scent. “They are after someone who can determine the type of Shifter you are by looking into your eyes; they are after Meadow.” Blade growls through the mind-link at my thoughts. Our female Warrior doesn’t think twice and punches the Rogue in his face, knocking him out. The rest of the Warriors take care of the other Rogues, and Myka looks at me. “How did you know?” He asks me as we grab the unconscious Rogue. “Dad mentioned something about Meadow, asking about the scent of other Rogue Shifters. Meadow can tell by looking into your eyes what kind of Shifter you are and Elder Major told us that she comes from a special bloodline.” I answer him.“How are we going to make sure that they don’t get to her?” Myka asks as we walk into the Alpha office after we handed the Rogue to some Warriors. “I already contacted her and asked her to come here before going anywhere else for her investigation.” Elder Major says. “Not that she liked the idea of coming home; she dreads seeing her Father again.” “Misha and River are on their way here; River doesn’t want Meadow to face Rhys on her own. He feels that he owes it to her to help her and Misha thinks it will be good if we don’t interfere when Meadow comes face to face with Rhys.” Alpha Lincoln says. I grab a notepad to write down everything I can remember from the attack, from their first charge at the border until the Mountain Lion attacked our female Warrior. I reread everything I have written down, because something doesn’t make sense to me. “Elder Major, you said that every female in your bloodline has the ability to sense a Shifter part from birth. Why didn’t anyone here know about it?” I ask him. “There have never been other Shifters in this Pack, only Wolves and Lycans.” He answers me and I start to understand why they sent a Mountain Lion with this group. Whoever is after Meadow knows that she can sense the kind of Shifter she is facing, and by sending a different Shifter with a group of Wolves and Lycans, they hoped to find her more quickly. Myka hasn’t been able to find the journal yet and I believe he has taken just about every book from the shelves to examine them one by one. He isn’t giving up the search though; he wants to find that journal and hopefully, we will get some answers once he finds it. Thyrius threatened to rip the entire library apart if Meilani didn’t hide it on one of the bookshelves. He believes that there might be a hidden compartment somewhere in the library and he will do anything to find it. “What is running through that brain of yours, Makay?” Dad asks and I tell them what I had been thinking about this attack. Myka’s eye color changes rapidly, probably discussing today’s events with Thyrius. A soft growl escapes him as he is still talking to Thyrius and Blade joins him in the soft growling. Neither one of them is happy with our suspicions. “If you are right, Makay, then they are definitely after Meadow and I also know who is after her.” Elder Major says and we all look at him for some more answers. “I told you that someone had an unhealthy interest in Meilani. She thought the guy really loved her, but she was blinded by the notion of love. He was after her bloodline; I doubt he ever loved her. Elder Morton took her on a tour of all the Packs in the Kingdom and she found her fated Mate, just as I had hoped.” He tells us. Not that finding her fated Mate meant a happy ending for Meilani; she might have gotten the worst fated Mate she could have gotten and their Pups paid the price. “Who is after Meadow, Elder Major?” I ask him. I want to find out everything I can about this individual and assist Meadow in bringing him down.
