Golden Moon: The Beta Twins' Contracted Mate

Chapter 52 Come Up Empty

Deep inside a forest The Boss is waiting in his office for his second in command to return from giving the final instructions to the team that is observing Gold Moon Pack. The second in command steps down from the front porch and the team leader is eager to hear if they can finally move on Gold Moon Pack. He is so damn eager that he barely pays attention to what is being said. “Get back out there and handle it just like last time.” The second in command says and the team leader’s mind starts to drift, no longer paying attention to the spoken words. “This is your last round of observation; after that, we will make a plan to search for any leads.” The second in command says, but he doesn’t realize that he has already lost the ear of his audience. The team leader quickly walks away to get his team and the additional males he needs to pull this off. “Boss, they are on their way for their last observation. Once they return, we can look at both observation reports and see what the changes are.” His second in command says as he walks back into the office. “How long before team one returns?” The Boss asks. Team one left this morning to search one of their other targets and he was hoping that they would bring him some good news. His second in command looks at his watch and scratches the back of his head, “They should have been back by now. It isn’t that far from here and I doubt that it would take them longer than usual to search the infirmary.” Both males are deep in thought while the leader of team three reaches the cottage where his team is staying. “Let’s go, it is time. Second said just like last time.” He says as he walks towards one of the vehicles they managed to get their hands on. Every member in this territory has an axe to grind with authority, each of them was deprived of what they believe should have been theirs. Something the Boss used to his advantage because he needed males who wouldn’t question him too much about this mission. They only know that he lost something and wants to get it back. They have no idea that he wants to forcefully mark a young female or that he never loved the female he lost a long time ago. Most members feel that they were cheated out of a title by their siblings or Cousins, and none of them agree with the current firstborn rights. Each of them feels that they would be much better at the job and want nothing more than to get that position. They all are under the impression that the Boss will help them get what they want; they are convinced that the Boss will take the Throne and hand them their titles. Arriving at Gold Moon territory, no one has figured out that they are acting too soon. Not the team to observe the territory one more time and not the Boss back at the compound.Three Rogues are near the border that is closest to the infirmary and they are waiting for the others to give them the go-ahead. “You stay here; keep an eye out for anyone that might go towards the infirmary.” One of them whispers. “The first Warriors just spotted us.” The team leader says through the mind-link, the only good thing about this gang of Rogues, according to most of them. It took another fifteen minutes before they got the all-clear through the mind-link and two of the Rogues crawled towards the infirmary. Neither of them saw the camera that followed them quietly and neither of them noticed the nurses being moved to another floor. Their lookout didn’t see anything suspicious either and they continued on moving towards the infirmary. Slowly but steadily, they manage to get into the infirmary without being spotted and they try to find the office of the highest-ranking Pack-doctor. His office is almost always connected to the archive of the infirmary and the place where every Pack keeps their records on births and deaths. Every now and then, they have to hide as a Pack-member is near them, but they have done this so often that they don’t notice that they are given a clear path to the room they are looking for. At the border, the Warriors are playing with the Rogues, who think that they are playing a game with the Warriors. Alpha Lincoln had to rearrange a few things in the infirmary to make it look as if there was actually an archive. After all, the former Alpha had moved all the files to the Pack-house and there was no longer any use for an archive in the infirmary. Cameras follow the two Rogues that sneak around the infirmary and a handful of Warriors is waiting out back to grab the Rogues. Alpha Lincoln has given the order to take out the lookout the moment the door closes behind the two Rogues. The Rogues that are attacking his border will meet their maker in a little while and the two Rogues in the infirmary will be taken to Renegade territory. One of the Rogues smiles as he points at the sign on the door. They have found the archive and now they just have to find the records of the Beta and Gamma families. Slowly opening the door, he peeks through the gap to see that the room is empty. He closes the door once they are both inside the room and he hears a soft click when the door falls into its lock. His partner in crime is already walking to the filing cabinet that is furthest away from the door, usually the cabinet that holds the files of the Highest-ranking Pack-members. “What the fuck.” He whispers when he opens the first file and finds it empty. Both of them open one drawer after the other and every file is the same. Every file contains empty papers and no names on the outside of the file. “Let’s get out of here; something is very wrong here.” The first Rogue says and as he pushes the doorhandle down, he realizes that the click he heard was of a locking mechanism. They are trapped inside this fake archive and when they try to reach their teammates, they come up empty.
